Best practice for publishing mutliple levels of a building?
matthiasbasler posted a topic in Cities: Skylines Modding - Open Discussion
I have creates a few commercial buildings for C:S and did the extra work to create three different assets - one for each building level. So far I have released them separately. (See my "Weißenburg" collection.) However, I wonder if this is best practice. Following questions arose: Is it better to include all three assets into one workshop item? It seems possible, as it is possible with props to publish a collection of them. But I think I haven't seen it for buildings yet. So maybe there's a downside to it? Is it possible to determine that a certain L1 building will be replaced by the corresponding L2 and later L3 building? Is a certain naming sheme necessary for this to work out of the box, for example? I am aware I can use the "Building themes per district" mod to configure this for a building theme but it would be good if I could set this on the model already so it works even for users who download all three model variants and do not use this mod. Diversity, Levels in Building Themes?
Simulanten posted a topic in Cities: Skylines Modding - Open Discussion
While creating different neighbourhoods in my Boston recreation I can see a pattern that I don't like: A newly built neighbourhood with a custom building theme quickly levels up and becomes uniform depending on the level I'm locking it with the building level up control mod (after a few game-years all the buildings have reached their max level). So while in the beginning of the cycle the neighbourhood looks interesting, diverse - but all the nice lower level assets are of no use because they are quickly being replaced by the next level buildings. I know - I could limit the level of each building manually - but this is no option with a big city like Boston... Some of the asset series creators work with L1 buildings only because of that. But what do you guys think of that and how do you work around this problem in your cities? It's such a waste of time to create complex building themes and lower level buildings if everything ends up being the same anyway in no time... (And don't tell me to lower conditions for certain neighborhoods - even really bad areas have schools and parks and bus lines. And levelling up happens much too quickly). Thoughts?- 12 Replies

I recently found a property file that allows you to have ten levels for a MegaTower (by punching in a cheat) in SimCityPak. The instance ID is 0x21982bfb. I was hoping that if some people did some exploring, we could figure out how to allow more levels for a MegaTower. I don't know what the cheat is I'll have to figure that out.
