TMW - Rosetta Nebula | Alpha Draconis (Intro)
Huston posted a City Journal entry in Mass Effect: Galactic Codex
Welcome. This City Journal is dedicated to the recreation of the entire Mass Effect Galaxy; that being it's known worlds. This is complimentary to the 'proper' Mass Effect: Beyond City Journal, as a reference and information page to the galaxy's worlds (in any case, the ME:GC lacks the story oriented writings and presentations that ME:Beyond normally provides). This will be done systematically: first, system by system, star cluster by star cluster, then mentioned systems with unknown galaxy locations will be listed. Each planet revealed will be accompanied with a single image and information input, on top of the planetary overview display. This will give you the chance to glimpse all the galaxy's planets. This CJ will likely end once all planets and notable stellar objects and systems are covered. ________________________________________________________________________________________ First off, let's start with the star cluster; Rosetta Nebula in the Terminus Systems, at a known star system by the formal designation Alpha Draconis. ________________________________________________________________________________________ Stars : 1 Planets : 2 Notable Natural Satellites : 0 Notable Dwarf Planets or Asteroids : 0 Notable Artificial/Orbital Stations : 0 Detected as an Earth-like world via telemetry by human scientists based in the Enoch system in 2165 CE, 2175 Aeia became of special interest to the Human Systems Alliance upon its finding. The deployment of flyby probes sent specifically to monitor and verify the scientific hypothesis of Aeia, it became upgraded to a garden world colonization priority when initial scans and images of the planet verified its garden world state. However, when an Alliance survey ship, the SSV [Hugo] Gernsback, was dispatched to the system in 2173, the ship inexplicably stopped reporting back, effectively blacking out upon reaching the system. Later unofficial surveys of the planet made by the 'then-Cerberus' human vessel, the Normandy SR-2 and its crew detected and confirmed the planet's nitrogen-oxygen atmospheric makeup. The planet's atmosphere suggested carbon-based fauna and photosynthetic flora. however the Normandy's extraction of Gernsback survivors, found evidence of neural-degeneration when native flora was consumed by non-native sapients. Later years and further scans of the planet have made it a rather undesirable world, currently moderately ranking on the Alliance's colonization priority. (The above depiction is of 2175 AR2's largest moon; Unnamed) A large gas giant world, and second from the star Alpha Draconis; the formally unnamed world, known only as its catalog name 2175 AR2, is a standard hydrogen-helium Jovian. Initial surveys of the planet detected the world and 21 natural satellites. One moon of particular interest, yet to be named, is of a near-earth size, and contains a relatively thick nitrogen-methane atmosphere. The few observations made by short probe flybys of the unremarkable system yielded evidence of hydrocarbon seas and lakes; similar to that of Saturn's moon, Titan. It's other moons are largely airless, with only one other moon that appears to have a substantial atmosphere. _______________________________________________________________- 12 Comments

Overview ~ The City of Ark'bor is notorious for its criminal links to Omega Station. Major merc and gang factions from across the Terminus Systems base themselves here, but not typically on Ark'bor, but it's underbelly. The Underground City below Ark'bor is a city devised to test even the most fool-hardy people. No person is safe from death, and no place here is devoid of danger. Like Omega Station, corruption, social tension and confrontations are a big part of the Underground, and so are an eternal nightlife, brothels galore and black markets as far as thee I can see. It's hell under an industrial nightmare. And it's waiting for you. Ggamgus: Thanks a lot, and don't mind at all if you do that Forthwall: Thanks Forth! Kakado_to_save: Haha, funny you should say Thanks Eytan! Aaron Graham: Thanks! MilitantRadical: Thanks a lot! Dabadon5: Thanks! Alex_1210: Thank you! K50: Thanks k50 KonstantinII: Nice of you to explain, but I'm already fully aware of the physics I take a lot of interest in astronomy, and watch documentaries as well as read books, but I am again, following the game Mass Effect, and in the game, those are the given details of the planet "Tosal Nym". Thanks though Liszak: Really? Please don't, I can't have someone erasing there work because of me Lol, Thanks for the comment RepublicMaster: Thanks Will, always nice to see you around Linoa06: My all time favorite game series Thanks a lot!! SimCoug: It actually didn't require much considering I only used one type of tree, and it was dead (and some shrubs, dirt and rocks ) Thanks SimCoug MamaLuigi945: Wow, you're really too kind Thanks a lot! #1SithLord: Couldn't agree with you more _________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Note: Happy Easter everyone! And since it's easter, I've decided to whip up a rather special and interesting concept for SimCity, something that I'm sure no one has attempted. By using photoshop (a big contributor to making updates), I've tried to make the illusion that the city is underground by blackening/blocking out the rooftops. It hasn't exactly turned out great, but hopefully, it'll be a break from the typical above-ground cities we all make. Also, just to note, I've changed the name of the Antheon Nebula Cluster (my own star cluster creation for the Mass Effect Universe) and renamed it to the Violaceus Nebula Cluster, which sounded more appropriate for the nebula. So, in short, the Antheon Nebula is now the Violaceus Nebula. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________ From the Xe Cha system's Tosal Nym in the Shrike Abyssal, to the Citadel in the Serpent Nebula. After hopping from system to system, cluster to cluster, we're now returning to the Violaceus Nebula (fomerly Antheon Nebula/Plain) to re-visit the Nesu'luun star system's Kanaze. To repeat, Kanaze is a planet, notorious in the galaxy for its criminal links to Omega Station, a carved asteroid joint with an inhabited space station in the Omega Nebula. The polluted planet's controversial capital city, Ark'bor, is the center of all the activies between Omega Station and Stagnum. Major mercenery bands and criminal factions in the Terminus Systems like the Blue Suns, Blood Pack and the Eclipse base many hideouts and gang operations between these two locales, often causing extreme havoc and deadly confrontations and in the process, killing civilians caught in the cross-fire or are not co-operative. Though often enough, the activities of these factions are not always evident on Kanaze's capital city. Most of the chaos happens in the city's true underbelly. A place where no mere person can survive without a tough outershell. In a place where hostilities are always a possibility, and where danger lurks more often than you'd probably like it to. That is, Ark'bor's Underground City. A large underground system of slums and cheap apartments, it's also home to the merceneries and gang factions of Omega and Kanaze. They often take base in the Underground's many abandoned offices and markets, turning them into their hideouts and base of operation in Ark'bor. Plunged into an internal darkness, the Underground is lit eternally with lights, illuminated signs and holograms that wildly appear around the city. All over the Underground, nightclubs and disguised brothels litter the city, likewise on the surface. Though the action in the Underground is more active than above ground, due to business being under the table, and invisible to higher galactic authorities. Every race in the galaxy lives under Ark'bor, in this poverty stricken subterrenean metropolis. Drell, Turians, Elcor, Asari, Humans, Salarians, Vorcha, Batarians, Volus, Quarians and even Krogan live under one city, side by side. And being so close to each other, confrontations between some are always an inevitability; with street fights, riots and widespread violence around the Underground found common. Along the sewage canal and some of the supporting beams keeping the city under safe from collapse, a roadway littered with trash and wildly parked vehicles, the Underground's inhabitants walk through as if a normal day, and the signs above their head continue to flicker and glow, illuminating the dark underground city. Pawnshops, markets, bars and strip clubs existing side by side. A popular go amongst all of the city's people. Crowds, more stores and clubs along the sewage canal. The poorest of the Underground's inhabitants setup tents along the roadway as affording or inhabiting cheap housing above them is either overated, overpriced, or overly dangerous. Meanwhile, in anther part of the Underground, a young Quarian is on his pilgrimage, leaving his previous life on the Migrant Fleet and instead living in Ark'bor's Underground City. He lives out his life in hopes that one day he'll be able to make something of himself. For now, he does nothing more than stare at his omni-tool, dazed and bored, sitting precariously on the weak aluminum and iron roof. Some parts of the Underground remain quiet. Empty. But when you look in deeper, there's always something that's bound to surprise you. Along the sewage canal again, trash, tents and more stores as well as another nightclub and brothel in the building. And a strange and suspicious looking faint "Blue Suns" logo is painted on the wall of the building. Could it be? Skycars pass by, the few who can manage to even own one, yet strange that they live in the poverty-stricken zone of the city, under all the glamor of spacious high-rises that tower above Ark'bor's smoggy industrial skyline. While people walk, minding themselves, the scene of Blue Suns mercs killing an unco-operative Salarian affiliate causes people to stop, watch for a split second in shock, and then scramble as fast as they can. The Salarians blood begins to spread over the roadway, an example of how easy it is to die in the Underground. In another part of the Underground, more people are found walking in the streets, obstructing a flatbed skytruck. It's looking more and more like the driver is about to target somebody. Best be outta' the way. This poverty stricken city, continues to prevail, at the cost of lives. Mercs hide behind every corner, and it's only a matter of time 'til someone else is targeted. The poor continue to live out their lives and signs illuminate the narrow roadways of the city. And no matter how you look at it, this city will always be shadowed in the darkness of the prevelent gangs that ride between Omega and Kanaze. Forever a city of death, despair, pain and survival. This is the Underground. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Thanks for viewing TMW! ___________________________________________________________ It's been almost 2 centuries since the turn of the millenium, and Humanity's fast paced world and increasing technological capability has jumped a long way from a monsterous world, consuming masses of fossil fuels to a civilization, using a variety of cleaner sources of power and energy. Humanity has even spread far into the abyss of our Milky Way Galaxy after discovering advanced FTL-drive technology hidden in the later identified, Prothean ruins of Mars, to exploit the resources of other worlds and to take up the challenge of galactic colonization. Along this treacherous journey, Human's have even made contact with various interstellar races, varying from the hyper-intelligent to the culturally primitive races, struggling with similar woes Humanity endured through as a race in its dark, yet booming 20th century period of rapid modernization. To begin the trek through the galaxy, we'll start at a major Human Colony on an exo-planet located many light-years from the Sol System; in the star system referred to as Aerene, named after one of the first Asari scientists to discover the star. The colonial settlement of Horizon , officially known as the New Horizon Settlement is a city located on the eastern coast of the continental landmass called Arcadelia. It's also Ferust's capital city; essentially the political, social and economic heart of the planet. Horizon was the first settlement established on the exo-planet Ferust, a lush Earth-like world that was found with an abundance of Oxygen and presented a flourishing eco-system of carbon-based life forms. The colony is the largest in the planet and houses several hundred thousand people. It's a colony full of various Human Cultures from all over Earth, a sign of the many people who left their lives on the homeworld to start fresh and expand Human reach in the greater galaxy. And where better to start than a lucrative and controversial system like Ferust, along the borders of two largely unstable regions of The Milky Way? FOUNDING OF COLONY: 2171. (Banner stating 2182 is incorrect) Here is a presentation of basic background information of the planet Ferust, as well as noting it's 2 natural satellites: Elmere (a moon slightly larger than Earth's Luna) and Orlaca (an asteroid moon which was considered to be a rogue asteroid from the star system's further asteroid belt, captured by Ferust's gravity) You're probably expecting some flying cars around here right? Well unfortunately, the average human civilian cannot seemingly cope and adapt to the controls of a flying vehicle. They have not yet become a popular mode of transportation, but doesn't mean people certainly don't find it interesting. It's rare but not unheard of to encounter flying civilian cars on other colonies, but on Earth, the occurance is more common and widely used. It's why the skies still seem quite bare and getting a view from the Horizon Colony Administrations Center is still not obstructed and obscured by passing vehicles. On the ground, people go about their daily lives, as they would if they were on Earth. Above them, towering modern glass pinnacles invade the sky, which dominate the colony and are often connected by sky-bridges. Humanity's attitude towards city-planning hasn't changed drastically as many people struggled to grasp the idea of walking around a city and having transport stuck underground and electronically controlled by A.I.s and computer systems. The still outdated concept of city planning and construction has prevailed in the next century, as people still adore the freedom of driving around a city. Luckily, in this century, the consequences of driving everyday doesn't cost the planet as much as it did in the 21st century. But! You've still got grinding traffic and frustration at your side. All the fun in driving in a crowding colony. The Homebase District as it's commonly referred to is a bustling area of commerce infused with the grinding financial precincts and the all the boring government service buildings. Of course, the government buildings play a vital role in managing the colony and keeping contact with the 3 other major colonies on the planet, as well as managing communication with other planets. And to get around these political and social powerhouses? LET'S HOP ON A GOLFCART THING. SCREW SEGWAYS. The always beautiful Homebase district is quite the place during the day and is especially beautiful during the evening. It's missing a few trees on it's plaza though. Back at the HCAC, the alluring height of the glass skyscraper is adorned on the ground with native shrubs and trees around it's lobby entrance, to give the city to a more natural ambience and better improve the image and single it out from the ordinary amongst other colony cities. As night falls, the city begins to illuminate, and the towers flood with lights. On the ground, it's not exactly spectacular, but the lights are doing what they're made and placed to do. A couple of operating and rented out holo-boards appear out of nowhere to ambush walking pedestrians and drivers. There have been many reports of these holo-boards inducing seizures all over the colonies, but no one ever seems to do anything about it. Lights a glowin', fog's a rollin' and the city continues on. The colony really never sleeps. Ever. And of course, the Government C-Wing structure decides to illuminate the infamous Horizon sign. So Bright And on another angle, you can see that the plaza has a giant Holographic TV Screen or what everyone actually calls it; A Holo-Screen! Galactic news presented at it's finest, 3 floors up a building in the middle of the colony. There's more to come of Horizon...
