  1. Can't find it?... Ask here!

Hey guys. I'm looking for a mod that reduces the number of sims living in a single family house to a reasonable number. I remember using it a long time ago, but I can't find it anymore. Any help from you pros?
  2. Anyone out there seen this before? I am under the impression that it's not so much a game as it is a tool. Since when does IBM make things like this? Any thoughts? LInk: http://www-01.ibm.com/software/solutions/soa/innov8/cityone/index.html I apologize for putting this in the SC4 general discussion thread, but I thought it would get more views here. Please move if needed.
  3. STEX CDs and Donations

I wanted to get the $45 pair of discs 2 and 3 without using paypal (because I hate pay pal). I have tried repeated emails to dirk and stex cd, but to no avail over the course of some months, anyone help me out here with how to get these discs? Tangentally: If I had done paypal, would I have still not received a cd in all this time or do they do those faster? Thanks in advance
  4. Addison Mountains the Region

That's a nice region.  Looking forward to getting some close ups of those cities!
  5. Take a video bus ride

Now, that is a bus system! I like how you have complete control over where the buses run. I'm looking forward to that.
  6. Nova Agram - Traffic Issues

Nice! I like your story and the road layout of your city.
  7. So, I'm having some problems. But before I start with them, I am happy enough with the game overall. We all know it need some love/help. I'm waiting for it to evolve, but until we get the things we need from Cities XL, please help me figure out a way so that I don't go insane while playing it. I can't stand some things. What is with the foundations around yards? The little white cement boundaries of yards are really sticking out to me. I like the game from a zoomed out view, but if I zoom in, I feel like I need to quit immediately. Postcard view makes me feel slightly better. What is with the need to build on 100% flat land? Is it just me or do the lots not "bend" with the landscape as they could in some cases with SC4? I know sometimes SC4 did it poorly (swimming pools on a slope and such), but at least the lots seemed more flexible. I think we need more resources and types of resources. If this is going to be an MMO, we can't be trading such a small amount of things. Why is every building gray? My gods. I have never seen so much gray and variants thereof in my life. Do the early commercial office buildings seem oddly huge to you? I had a population of like 1,000, and I set up my first few offices, and they were multi story and pretty fancy looking. It just seems strange. Perhaps I will just wait til later to build offices. Do the roads seem terribly European to you? Something about the striping seems off to me. And the crosswalks seem designed for huge throngs of people to cross. They are just very wide and stripey. The farm field textures are terrible, two dimensional and the buildings are plopped right on top of that texture. No animals, or edges or fences. Just striped texture and building. Bam, you have an ugly farm with roads on all sides. I get mad when I see the denizens of my city doing something ridiculously funny, like an old man on a bench talking to a bird, when I know some developer somewhere spent time making that and not time, I don't know, fixing the farm textures. I don't give a damn about some man on a bench. Like, I wish the man on the bench was funny, but, in comparison to the things I'm mad about, he is not helping. I am retarded when it comes to laying bridges, apparently. I can't get them to connect on one side or the other, sometimes. I have yet to figure this out, and it's distressing me. When it comes time for a road expansion, I become discouraged about what I"m going to be forced to destroy. The roads don't seem to line up very well for me, even if I leave one side of the road with more space sometimes. I am probably just a ***** who can't do it right, but, there are times when I miss the grid keeping me on track. I know, I'm having custom content withdrawl. I know more is coming, and fixes are coming and content is on the way. But, until then...how can I make my city something that I want to look at? I have decided against ever letting the auto fill tool build a neighborhood or office park or industrial park for me. It puts in weird and ugly filler textures between the lots, particularly on industrial buildings that look so bizarre and out of place. What are some overall tips you guys have for building a city?
  8. I can't delete part of a road?

Im such a tool, I never thought of making an intersection to cut off the bulldoze, although I suppose I knew in principle. *facedesk* Thanks.
  9. Comparing Simcity and Cities XL

You know what I have seen recently? I have seen fans kill their own games. It's like an overprotective parent completely ruining childhood for a kid. World of Warcraft has gone berserk with a bizarre list of changes over the past few years to the point where the game is basically one geek's giant modified dreamland. Another MMO, recently came out called the Chronicles of Spellborn. It had some merits, it had some flaws. The fans who had been craving the game for years basically destroyed it withing 2 months of release by crying about how it wasn't exactly what they wanted, which, apparently, was World of Warcraft. Monte Cristo *did* listen to player inputs. But, it can't put all of them into the game for launch. It. Can. Not. Do. That. Do you get that? They are not some ginormous corportation that can kick a game around in development forever without releasing it and making some sort of money off of it. Yes, you might think planet offer sucks, and it might really actually suck, but, this is not your game. It is their game. It is not Sim City 5, and it's not going to be. One thing that I think speaks volumes for Ciities XL is the fact that they are going to give you content every month. Yes, it costs money, but if you add up the costs of an expansion pack per year, it is nearly the same cost. Assuming Cities XL keeps their promise of conent every month and fixes for bugs, you have nothing to complain about except OmniCorp killing your solo games (which is a seperate gripe, and one worth making). Do I think certain features should have been added at launch. Yes. Mass transit being the main one. I hope you guys can be a little more realistic on what to expect from a developer that is not EA or Blizzard or some other huge company. The fact that they released the game as a digital download rather than in box format should tell you about their monetary situation. That is a big cost cutter, right there. They know that right now hard core Sim City fans are going to destroy them for the next 6 months. That's why they shut down the forums. Forums kill games. You should have seen the forums on The Crhonicles of Spellborn. After reading all the *****ing and whining there, *I* wouldn't have bought the game if I didn't already have it. I'm not saying it was "Democratic" or right they they shut down the forums, but they did what they had to do to keep people from pissing all over their product. Get a clue, my fellow sim lovers. The game is not perfect, not polished, doesn't have some stuff you think is necessary, but it is a start. In this economy, do you think Monte Cristo could afford to do anything more than get a foothold? You wanted a game that out of the box was going to demolish your need for Sim City. You didn't get that. You might not ever get that, but I think, and hope, that one day, we will get that. So, what I'm saying is, if you want something better than Sim City, you're going to have to support the people who are trying to give it to you, even if what you have at the start is not what you want at the end. That is the point. What you get at the start is not the same thing that you will have in the end. Please just remember that and try to do something constructive.
  10. I have experimented with trying to bulldoze parts of roads, and I can't do it. It's from one crosswalk to the other, apparently. Both bulldoze tools do this. Is there any way to delete parts of roads?
  11. What should the next content pack be?

I hope we get some better texturing on farms, so that the farmhouse isn't literally sitting on top of the field. I'd like to see some more parking lots, and smaller shops. The starter shops like the burger joint are really cool and well done, and I hope we get to see a lot more of those. I think the offices are way too big in the beginning, and should get some smaller one level office buildings. A 5 level office building looks stupid in a town of 1,000 people.
  12. Terraforming

thanks guys. I did find the in game terraforming tools on my own after I went back and looked again. I'll try out the mountain cutting and bridge ideas.
  13. Terraforming

Just got Citiex XL running a couple days ago, and I *need* to terraform. Anyone got some methods for terraforming? And if there are terraforming tools, where are they? I can't find them, haha.
  14. Starting Fresh

thanks so much spinmaster! That was the exact information I was looking for. The hole diggers I completely forgot about!
  15. Zoning for Industrial

Man, I wish I could see the pics of the before and afters...anyone know if this tutorial was ever updated elsewhere, or have a pic to show?
