(collaboration) Lets make an oil refinery! Anyone know anything about the petroleum industry?
danza3343 replied to Badi_Dea's topic in Cities: Skylines Modding - Open Discussion
Just poking my head in to say these look FANTASTIC. Super excited to see what you guys collab and come up with. This game desperately needs more large specialised industrial buildings! -
I've been contemplating recently why I always give up making regions when I hit the 20-30 city mark. The issue is they are bland and very similar, despite my efforts to plan ahead and make realistic suburbs and city districts. One issue I noticed was it was hard to distinguish between most of the cities and I felt that I was just making more of the same. Recently I was making some medium res city and all the friggen buildings where the same, the R$$$ white condos [about 20 floors tall] despite skyrocketing demand to build larger ones [like the nice blue/greenish one] and really highlighted how my cities just looked so boring and similiar. How do you guys keep interest in your region ? I often enjoy playing on flat land with some rivers/sea but even then I get so frustrated at how those awesome custom beaches that are really big look really weird from the region view and how seawalls take FOREVER to make due to terraforming the landscape then adding in each bit. I find myself wanting to make a detailed city so that its enjoyable to just LOOK at yet I am beggining to question why I am bothering. I would really love your input guys, I've never seen a topic like this and would really appriciate feedback. Feel free to post image examples if you can think of any compromises of detail vs time to make it... One example was not using seawalls but instead just making plaza's against the highly raised river side to give a general feel for manmade interference and design Thanks for reading, Dan

Good advice Tek, thank you =) I will go in a bit more detail about my situation... I have 800 megs of custom content, about 50NDEX buildings and a further 20-30 residentials amongst many buildings/mods and I really feel I am lacking in light residential custom building [$$ and $$$] and medium residential/commercial. My towns and small cities look bland and repetitive, so I think I will try having all tile-sets, I've always shyed away from Chicago and the other one on the left [i forgot, fail heh] just because I like my cities to look modern. However, this was my mindset 5 years ago and I've never questioned it. So I may change it up ! =) As for hills and such, I find them very annoying in regard to region consistency, how sometimes neighbour connections mess with the alignment of cities connecting and just general weirdness in regard to how some buildings are built, but again... Perhaps I should try. So yeah, any ideas on getting low/medium residential and commercial buildings ? I have so many high density but hardly any of the former, I just can't seem to find them on the STEX x..x

"and they need" I stopped reading at that. Most amatuers to game design and marketing often state "OMG THEY MUST HAVE THIS NEED IT BECAUSE ITS AWESOME" styled comments, usually their own ideas...

Wow that looks awesome, at first it reminded me a bit of the shuttle at the end of 2012... Someone really needs to make that It would have to offer like 300,000 CS jobs lol

What frustrates you about sim city 4
danza3343 replied to Pasta-power's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
Ok just before I rage... This game is still the best citybuilder after 7 years so its clearly got something going for it ! 1 - The friggen lag... On all my PC's that are way above the specs, this new one has 8 gigs of RAM and a quadcore i7 you would think it would run faster. No. Just higher graphics lol, like most games its poorly coded to run well on multicores [but not multithreaded ! ] 2 - Visual glitches, more of a custom content thing, like how nearly all seawalls have texture conflicts and lighting issues 3 - Job/No Job... Oh my lord, walking next door does not take 50 minutes, especially when each square in game is if I recall 10-15 meters long at most. 4 - Weird region crap - Like how every other city in a chessboard pattern will be high res and the others lower res, no matter was screen resolution you have uuugh. 5 - Automata DISAPPEARING SO FAST. I was like "omg awesome UDRIVE" then realized HONKING just makes the cars disappear. fffff. 6 - Dodgy lighting on the day/night transition 7 - NO TEMPLATES OMG 8 - Houses not building when there is land available and sky-rocketing demand AND extremely high desirability 9 - Ind zones using freight trucks despite a million freight train stations around them 10 - Landscaping, finicky as hell 11 - Ugly look when buildings grow on hills 12 - Boring god mode trees 13 - Commercial zones never wanting to build up ffff That's all I can think of for now xD -

Yeah that's a good mod, only thing I don't like is that it doesn't work on custom buildings

Looking for the 3x3 2x2 and I think 1x3 ploppable green spaces [like the in game maxis ones, designed to save a lot of clicking on large park construction] The tramline stations also, I've got the NAM but have never seen the actual tram stations nor can get the tramlines to work, so I assume you need another DL ?

OMG I have the same problem... Res is stuck at low, Comm is off the charts and Industrial is high, some of the other cities work fine. What is even worse is $$ and $$$ only build if I set the tax to NOTHING. WTF ? The mod that makes the demand at 24,000 is the Collassus addon mod that you -need- to have the larger CAM/BSC buildings and this bug was happening without the bug to. D:
-
Haha you have the same problem I do, My current region is large cities only and because its fewer larger cities... There are less connections to neighbours and further to travel to get to multiple cities for work [i have NAM installed] Try starting in a corner of one city, and build 3 other cities around it all in the closest corner to that city, then slowly move out like a cross shape linking more and more. Has been working for me although top and bottom corners at the end of the region is very... Difficult D:

How do you build an effective monorail system
danza3343 replied to AussieDave's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
Radical Ordinance Mod > Force Mass Transit Use <3 -
Gonna need some more info from you buddy, how many neighbours do you have and what size is the city in terms of tile size [small/med/large] A lot of the time the issue is neighbours are working there and those houses should commute to your neighbours but they will have little to no jobs available. Either that or the nearest available jobs are too far away, have you got the NAM ? that reduces commute times by around 10x

Effective method for starting a region?
danza3343 replied to Amtrak7's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
1 phrase: Neighbour Connections Seriously, when you have enough neighbours you will very rarely see those damn no job zots, especially with the NAM =) Thats why I am having trouble with my large cities only region [4x4 large cities] I have 3 large cities, one with job issues as it holds all the jobs and it seems sims like travelling to other cities. What this means is in a normal med to small city region I would have 6-8 cities in that space -
Is there a huge CS$ plop out there?
danza3343 replied to maximummatt's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
Originally posted by: mattlesmcepicwin My question is, what type of buildings would count for commercial services? That is to say basically, if given good ideas, I could make a building to satisfy this need. quote> Isn't banking a service ? Isn't a lawyer firm a service ? Seriously, I think the game needs some big CS $$ buildings. Like 4000+ jobs. I can't really find any on the stex, and if you plop the buildings that then grow [plopped but they grow from plopped land] they never get built over by other buildings right ? -
Your Regions and their Population
danza3343 replied to Jimmyneutron's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
Originally posted by: haljackey I think I got either 3.1 or 3.2 million in my largest city. The population of my region is about 18 million, with the census repository stating it could grow to as much as 46 million with continued expansion. Still small compared to other large cities, but would you rather have a city of 10 million that looks like crap (all repetitive buildings, little greenspace or infrastructure) or a dense city of 1-3 million that looks good? (room for greenspace, public areas, very little or no building repetition, good, creative infrastructure, etc.)quote> Lol exactly. I hate those damn tower spam cities, its very unpractical and unrealistic :/ As for the "census repositroy" wtf is that and how does it know what your max region size is ? I thought given enough space and editing your region to be bigger in paint you could have any region size/population you want -
Heya guys, I am trying to create a river with a sea wall on both sides and the river is making it extremely hard to do so. I tried making it a cliff face so I could place the walls and the terrain tools where making it impossible to make what I wanted... A river with sea walls that are straight and diagonal. Not a huge mess D: I looked for tutorials but the only one i found was using a city before building to make straight edged ports. Nothing to do with terraforming a natural river to a seawalled state D: I'm not sure what hieght it has to be, how to terraform the landscape or anything and its really difficult D: I tried again a little better but its too high and a lot of the peices don't fit. Any help, any at all would be so greatly appriciated, thank you to everyone who reads this. Dan Edit: Tried again, still found the terraforming so hard, it kept raising and lowering ground where I didn't want it to making it extremely hard to get a smooth cliff edge D:

Huge Problems with seawalls...
danza3343 replied to danza3343's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
Yeah, will give them a go Socko, as for the terraforming and placement, I think dragable sea walls would be amazing. Unlikely but thats what was said about curved roads 2 years back -
Huge Problems with seawalls...

Yeah, I guess that could be the back up plan Still, I see so many awesome CJs where its done flawlessly, would just wanna know how they do it -
Well, its good to be back everyone after my holiday to Florida I felt inspired to quite an extent. This region which i plan to develop to atleast about 40x40km is loosly based on the luxury and warm living experienced in cities such as Florida and Aquatica known from Need for Speed Hot Pursuit. I wasted no time in getting started and slowly building outwards emphesising on Quality but it seems that i can do quantity too... This first picture shows a quite suburban area surrounding Crystal Park and Lake. The Crystal Park with waterfalls and the local church. An overhead view of the Sanston Highway Exchange. The view from the Burton River More pics coming with the next update including night time shots and the Elverto Island Development and a mysterious dip in the ground... Comments are more than welcome and I will make sure i reply to every one who adds their two cents.

Huge Problems with seawalls...
danza3343 replied to danza3343's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
Yeah I tried them yet they don't do what they say they do :/ No matter where I point the arrow, when ever they get close to the sea edge or onto the sea it insta lowers it :/
