  1. I have the same problem with my primarily industrial cities. It says jobs are occupied, but nobody is going to them. In the neighboring residential cities, there is high industrial demand, but nobody is commuting there. The first time it happened, I ran 25 years off going back and forth between the cities, and there was still no resolution. Ended up setting up low income housing in the industrial city, and they took the industrial jobs. Any commuters that enter the city, simply pass through to commercial jobs in other cities. I've also noticed similar problems when industrial and residential are in the same city though. Industrial jobs don't seem to work the same way as commercial jobs. Although I've also seen commercial skyscrapers with the same issue, occupied jobs but no commuters.
  2. I'm still playing my original region even. My first city still lies at the center of it and has been renovated and reborn several times now, and it has another 40 tiles or so that are populated around it now. I hate to think about the amount of time I've put into it over the years, but I've enjoyed it. May not even move to SC5 if it ever comes out because of the time invested.
  3. Planes as conveyances

I don't know about having air traffic. There are very few people who use air travel to fly between airports in the same metro area. I've always thought that there should be more traffic than just home to work though. Every sim should have a 3rd place they go as customers daily to create more realistic traffic flow. It wouldn't have even been that hard to implement.

  5. NAM General Support

Is there a puzzle piece for Elevated Heavy Rail to cross over Underground Heavy Rail? I looked through all of them and only found the Elevated (Subway) Rail over Underground Heavy Rail. Thanks.
  6. NAM Version 29 Is Here!

Originally posted by: ebacci That's a good question. I used to have an older version of NAM, then I updated to version May 2010. Many of my cities were giving me CTD. I had to delete them. I'm installing this mostly because of the fix on car & passenger ferry. I hope I'll be able to play with all the cities I've done while using NAM May 2010. You guys do a wonderful job and I'm thankful for it. I can't imagine SC without plugins, specially heavy work like NAM. But it really is complicated if every time we want to update NAM we have to basically start playing the game all over again. I've been working on the same region slowly for ages now. Last NAM update I had to start over 6 cities. Now it would be around 20 cities. I hope not! quote> Don't delete them yet. I was getting crash to desktop and even video card lock ups where i had to hard down my pc. I noticed it happened a lot more often in RHW intensive cities. Turns out I had a rural highway and a real highway folder. Deleted the rural highway folder and now everything is fine. You probably just have some residual legacy NAM stuff. Check your plugins with a fine tooth comb.
  7. TKY - Shinjuku Station East Wing

Wow! I'm going to start a new core city just for this.
  8. I've played only one region since the game came out, so my first core city has gone through several renovations. The largest was when Rush Hour came out and I played Robert Moses with Maxis Highways and Avenues, but it has also had major changes when the RHW and HSRP came out. My massive region now has several core cities dispersed throughout, but the first, New New York, is still my favorite to play, since it's all brownfield at this point when I renew it. Plus it still has preserved areas that hearken back to to the days before we learned how to make roads larger than two lanes.
  9. Meridian Condominiums V2

Looks great! That pool deck is not for those with a fear of heights.
  10. Does anyone know if this exists anywhere? I've searched here and on sc4devotion and haven't found anything. Thanks!!
  11. The Maxis SC4 website? Hasn't that been dead for a while now? I'm probably gonna make it myself, its just not gonna look that great. And it won't work like a station as long as the only transit switch is monorail to train and vice versa. No cars or pedestrians will be able to switch on it. Thanks for the replies.
  12. I mean a transition or transit switch, not a station. So I could send the HSR into a large standard rail terminus station like Gare du Nord or a few others that are available without modding the stations themselves.
  13. Comparing Simcity and Cities XL

It will be a sad day when I finally say goodbye to SC4. I've been working on the same region since it came out, and put countless hours painstakingly crafting it. Upgrading it when Rush Hour came out, expanding it (much too big, in fact), building new NAM cities, and retrofitting and revitalizing cities when new mods and bats came out. Its a project that has no ending. I've never put so much work and really, love, into a game before. I put a lot of time into SC3K too, but each city was self contained, and when I filled the map, I was done. I could start a new city, but take that to completion as well. Not so with SC4. If not one single piece of custom content more was created, I could still play SC4 indefinitely with what this community has produced already. While improvements can certainly be made, 3D, curved roads, I'm not certain I even want an SC5 because I would hate to say goodbye to my region.
  14. NYBT One Battery Park Plaza

Awesome! I used to work on the 30th floor in this building. Y'all are pulling out the stops considering this teal life building is pretty run of the mill as far as NYC buildings go.
  15. I'm liking Z a lot now. I got the HSR to work better by adding more stations. Not the most realistic thing but it works. Does a commuting sim know how far away the next station is in the next city when he hits the edge of the map, or is the edge the final destination as far as the currently loaded city is concerned? I'm going to need to change the transit switch traffic capacity on most of the train stations. I'd love to be able to get Gare du Nord close to its actual usage in real life. I've got 60,000 riders using Gare du Nord and 80,000 using Amsterdam Central Station in my second largest city, so they are more than double capacity for the original BAT specs. Hub and spoke works well with Z. A lot of the subway stations choke with passing traffic as well. Best traffic sim yet by far.
  16. Raised Transit Park 1

    can pedestrians walk over it?
  17. So how about this Simulator Z.

This is not unexpected, though it surprises many people. What's happening is that the Sims are figuring out that it takes longer to get to the monorail/HSR stations and then commute to the border than just heading straight there over slower networks. Increasing the number of monorail/HSR stations per city would definitely increase the usage of this network.quote> I don't think that's what's happening in my case, at least not everywhere. In the city where I first noticed it, my HSR station is connected by Ped Mall to Subway and Standard rail. The quickest way off the map to the commercial center is HSR, and prior to using Z, there were ~8000 commuters using it. Most enter the station on standard rail lines, but the neighbor city where HSR goes doesn't have a standard rail connection. Only one ped mall tile separates the subway entrance from the HSR station. But they then take the subway across the river, then get out, walk or bus to another subway line, and take that subway line to the next city tile only ~10 tiles away from where the HSR connects to the neighbor city. Some nearby commuters actually walk through the HSR station to get to the subway station for their convoluted commute. The only thing I could think of was that perhaps commute time resets each time the form of transit changes, or that monorail is more expensive to ride. Other than killing my HSR, Z has been perfect though. Especially since commuters will now actually walk a couple of blocks to work or mass transit options. Before, many of them couldn't be bothered to walk more than 4 or 5 tiles. Also, eternal commuters have been reduced significantly. I'll kill the subway line and see if they can be forced back onto HSR.
  18. So how about this Simulator Z.

Do you need to have multiple monorai/HSR stations per city in order for it to work? Nobody rides my HSR at all since installing simulator Z, but I only use it for intercity traffic. They were using it a lot before to commute between cities. Now those same commuters are taking much longer routes to get to the same location.
  19. It looks like you have the old Stage 8 bug, where they never grow. Did you apply all the official Maxis patches?
  20. Single Player

I'd be happy with a 3D SC4 with no change in game play.
  21. Saturn V

    Wow! Does it actually launch?
  22. Ghost Industries

For me, industry only attracts commuters from within the same city tile. Otherwise, the building query shows workers, but there is nothing on the route query and no traffic on the roads and rails. I still play the same region I have had since SC4 came out, so it has undergone several rebirths. Formerly industrial cities now contain enough low income residents to work at the industries.
  23. Lower taxes for ID and IM and raise taxes to astronomical levels for IHT and high wealth res.
  24. Trumpet and Y interchanges

Happens to me too. I don't mind it. Reminds me of highways in NJ. Originally concrete, with patches in asphalt.
  25. MP W2W Burger King

I couldn't create my Brooklyn style sections of town without you.
