Cities: Skylines - Gamescom 2015
lance10ca replied to wallacet's topic in Cities: Skylines General Discussion
Reddit is speculating day/night cycle, entertainment tweaks and brothels. -
Looks like the Crown has been passed....
lance10ca replied to chocolate_city's topic in Cities: Skylines General Discussion
Does anyone else find this thread a little strange? SC4 has been out for a decade+ and here we are discussing whether the 1 month old v1.0.7 can take the throne. There are good points from both perspectives. That alone tells me the C:S already has. -
Lesson 1: Keep Cargo rail separate from passenger rail. Cargo by default has to connect to the outside world. See Lesson 2. Lesson 2: Keep your internal transit rail separate from _any_ outside connection. Darn external passenger lines are clogging up my lovely city rail network. Have one passenger terminal somewhere, but make sure it doesn't connect to your city lines.

My Cities: Skylines CJ Scrapbook -- The Night Cometh...

Heh. Never seen canola in flower? It's even brighter than that yellow. Mix it up with a field of iridescent blue from flax and it could be home in July.- 324 Replies

I'm at 75k. I really can't see me getting to 1M in one city.

Be aware, if you're like me, you group like things. In my case it was the water pumps. It dropped the river flow. Results: - Increased need for more water - I had sewage on the same water flow and because of the reduced flow, it spread (3% water contamination) slightly back to the inlets. - Outflow pollution was more vast. Solution was to halve my pumps into a completely different water flow.

Cannot Create Elevated Ramps
lance10ca replied to SAGG's topic in Cities: Skylines General Discussion
Settings Menu -> Options -> Gameplay tab. You'll want the 'Shared' Key mapping list.First two items are Build Elevation Up and Build Elevation Down. -
Nope, you're right. As to the why, two things. First, each cim is unique, so pathfinding is huge. I'm guessing that roads with sidewalks, pedestrian roads, etc, are a major component of that. No sidewalk/path, no cims use the building. Secondly, there is parking in some of the parks. A neat way around it via Quill18's twitch was putting a small gravel road up into the inside of your larger block and run it behind the zone area for a little way. Now you have a park inside your block and you only lose four zone squares. Like this:

1. Yes. The little green box is your budget menu. If you switch to the Budget tab and then mouse over the numbers Weekly transport total, you can get a list of income which you can compare to the budget numbers. 2. Traffic problem I'll bet. The garbage trucks collect just by driving, if they can't drive through and area, they can't collect.

I think I wasn't clear. I understand the scaling and that the 1M number is number of agents (as opposed to citizens), what I meant was that I can't see me spending the time to build one city to the max.

Mod on Steam for first person street level view - now follow vehicles and people!
lance10ca replied to scoobsuk's topic in Cities: Skylines Modding - Open Discussion
13 person studio, figure 3 admin, 3-4 artists, maybe 7 programmers. Time constraints, launch day fixes, 'good enough' syndrome. -

How Do I Add Mods To My Game?
lance10ca replied to BlitzPackage's topic in Cities: Skylines General Discussion
Another _very_ handy way is if you're online with steam and playing, you can Shift-Tab to go directly to the steam overlay. Obviously don't do this with a Mac given the issues. Select the Community Hub and go to the Workshop. You can subscribe to mods right there. Shift-Tab to go back to the game. Save, enable mod, reload game, et voila, that interchange you needed. -
Level rail crossings have traffic barriers that raise and lower when trains are coming and going.

Earlier today, my pop dropped like 10k in about 5 minutes of RL. I didn't notice at first.... Cemetaries were all full and the crematoriums couldn't keep up. People leave. Fast.

And lets not forget rail. Incoming traffic to the right. and a standard 8.

There's nothing in 3D that compares within the genre. -

In game it calls it just a 'Train Station' as opposed to the Cargo Train Terminal. It "allows touists to travel to and from the city" but it's also for using as a commuter train. If you want the tourists, and the train is better than the passenger liner at my city size, just keep it seperate from your commuter lines. EDIT, there were at least twenty outside passenger trains on my lines. I have all of four commuter stations ...it just didn't work out.

I haven't followed a bunch of cims, yet, but I can tell it isn't quite as stringent as CiM2 with regards to transit. In CiM2, if the cims were made to wait too long, they left. That doesn't seem to be the case yet.

Just bought the game: What were Your first impressions?
lance10ca replied to data7's topic in Cities: Skylines General Discussion
i've spent a lot of time in CiM2. It's helped. Small sections, free-hand tool is the best IMO and then transition to straight when you're joining. (Excepting standard grid, of course.) -
For those who watched Let's Plays - What did you think?

What Marla said. CiM2 road/rail building experience is really going to help for C:SL. -

Simtropolis plays Cities: Skylines!
lance10ca replied to Haljackey's topic in Cities: Skylines General Discussion
One difference between Haljackey's playthrough and others is you can tell he didn't do a non-recorded test run and the others did. Regarding the learning curve, when I backed up the video, a lot of H's questions were answered in the tool-tips. I don't know if that's H's assumptions about how SC worked, or just too many things going on cause there is a lot going on. I think I'll be taking a long time on my first play-through with a lot of time on pause just reading the stuff in-game.- 50 Replies
