The gret cladding looks very good, where did you get it from?

Date: 3/22/2005 3:00:36 PM Author: underworld Just a quick question: what do i upload to the stex if i want to upload a plopable version AND a growable version of a bat? Do i need to upload 1x .sc4model file, 2x .sc4desc file (growable and plopable), and 1x .sc4lot file? thanks in advance quote> No, you need 2 LOT files (I think, correct me if I'm wrong) plus the 2 sc4desc files plus 1 sc4model

Alumium cladding is quite a difficult texture to do actually. Creating something like Underworld suggested in your image editor is probably a good starting point although I would suggest the dividing lines be much closer to the colour of the cladding itself as with this type of cladding, the gaps are quite discreet. Any news on Sara Robinson House?

Here are some shots from my current city Thornbridge: 1. This is an overall shot showing the river and the CBD (not very developed yet). Centre-top you can see the new railway station, this was built to cope with an influx of passengers. However, owing to the land needed to connect up all the railway lines, many commercial businesses had to be relocated. You can also see the new multi-storey car park and bus station just below the railway station. https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//sc_thornbridge2.jpg align=baseline> 2. This is my 'urban regeneration' area, it was previously slum R$1 housing but due to the demand for commerce, it has been cleared for commercial use. This new area is centred around a large plaza. https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//sc_thornbridge1.jpg align=baseline>

Wow, that looks good although as you said, it does look a bit dark. I don't know why the BAT is doing this, I've never come across it before? Try resetting the cameras maybe? I doubt that will make a difference though.

Date: 3/17/2005 1:37:29 PM Author: frogface how about different colour variations? a few versions with different concrete textures or the cladding on the side looks good so far quote> Yeah, that might be an idea, like I did with my Southampton Tower Blocks set. All the models were pretty much the same, I just changed the wall textures and some minor details. Anyway, that looks really good now, IllTonkso! I very much look forward to seeing it on the STEX!

Excellent, I've been looking forward to seeing Sarah Robinson House! I like the textures on the walls and between the windows, these look very close to the real thing. However, as I've said before, the windows are too 'blue', for this kind of a building they would more likely be a very dark blue-grey colour, try something like 45, 50, 50 for the red-green-blue values in the Material Editor. That should really add to the realism.

I like that building a lot, it's almost Art Deco, certainly 1930s style. What kind of textures will you be using for the walls? I reckon a brick texture for the ground floor and a white stucco for the upper floor would look good I love the tables and chairs by the way, they're really detailed.

Your BATS are getting better and better, Ill Tonkso. Yes, you still have some way to go with improving textures etc but practice makes perfect! Posting pictures of your work here and getting feedback and advice is a great way to learn. The main things to work on are textures (as previously mentioned) and attention to detail. All large surfaces should be textured if possible*, this was the main flaw with your otherwise excellent Technopole building. Things like window frames, text for signs etc doesn't need to be textured but walls, roofing etc does otherwise it looks flat and 'brand new'. With your Solent building you've definitely started out on the right track with this. Another thing to think about is using 'gradient textures', these really add an extra dimension to buildings. There is an excellent tutorial by Gascooker about this in the Omnibus. You don't need Photoshop to be able to do this, other packages such as Corel PhotoPaint will do it, as long as you can use 'layers'. Or see my original thread entitled 'Newbie' if it's still there, I picked up a lot of my texturing knowledge on there in a short space of time thanks to the help from BATters more advanced than me. I would however like to add that your modelling skills, ie shapes, forms etc are very good. *Glass can be textured or not, I tend to not to use a texture but instead just a semitransparent dark blue/green/grey colour. With regard to attention to detail, this is the part of any BAT project which takes a long time to do bit it's worth it! Things like window frames, doors, roof junk, signs, fire escapes, vents, anything which adds to the realism. Again, looking at your Technopole building, the windows are a little too flat and I can't see any doors (although they may be on the other side of the building). Lastly remember that every new thing you try adds to your knowledge of BAT which after all is a very complex tool. Keep up the good work and any questions, let me know! I'm looking forward to the Portsmouth tower blocks! Also, I reckon you should BAT Gunwharf Quays, that would go very well with your Spinnaker Tower!

SimsZone presents: The SimForum BAT Team (SFBT)
GaryReggae replied to Andreas Roth's topic in SC4 BAT & Lot Workshop
Very nice domitories, they remind me a bit of the 'Bauhaus' building. The garbage yard is good as well. -
Excellent work on Stamford Bridge, I can't wait to see Highbury! It was something I was considering as a friend (a passionate Arsenal supporter) asked me to do it but I can see that in your more than capable hands, it will get done! I had started work on a Library that had a similiar design to the East Stand but it got corrupted so I'll havr to start it again

You're right, this is my kind of style! Is this based on anything real? Anyway, some tips: The windows are too blue, darken the colour. I usually have windows as a dark greyish greenish bluish colour. Add a texture for the main building surfaces, it looks too plain at the moment. I would suggest some kind of textured concrete (a la Tricorn!), try this: Alternatively, a mosaic tiling effect would be good, like this: https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/files//blackmosiacsv2.BMP align=baseline> Apart from that, it's a great start. I love the 'solent' lettering, what font is that? It looks very Modernist. The round nitelites behind the letters look great though. I'm not sure the shape of that column with the letters on is in keeping with the general feel of '60s architecture...although of course it could be a later addition. The building looks a lot more modern, i'd say late 90s although a bit of rough concrete texturing will soon fix that!

Welcome Marrast, just wanted to say I love your work! You are a great addition to the team!
