I'm having trouble building out one of my large tile cities and I believe it is because of stage limits. The city is at 250000 residents but acts as a suburb to the CBD. New low density R zones take forever/don't build and I still have about a third of the city to fill in. Demand is high, desirability is high, and I have lots of services so it seems like a stage limit issue. From the Prima guide it seems like low density should only be able to account for 8% of my residents but it definitely is far higher than that. Can stage limits be altered like demand limits, I can't see anything in the guide? Any suggestions on how to fill a large city tile with low density R? I do have corridors of mid and high density but don't really want to add anymore. Thanks!

Is there a good tutorial on making a lot into a transit station? In particular I'm trying to make a subway station but anything that would point me in the right direction would be great. I've got ilive's reader out and messed around with a few values but nothing seems to happen in game. Thanks for any help.

Update 17- The Land of Student Loans

Awesome city! What are the apartments, scholarship and non? They look great. -
SFBT's street tree mod doesn't add trees for HT industries. Is it possible to get this to work? Either altering his mod or another mod? Or is it tied to densities not type? I wouldn't want trees for Dirty or Manufactures. Thanks!
-
Awesome! Thanks! Edit: Just in case anyone else wants to do this you can actually just make one dat with all wealth levels and densities together. Just seperate with commas in the exemplar. Of course this means it will be the same for all the types.

Wondering if there is a automata replacement mod for the ferries? One that changes the model not just the paint like this Really hoping there is one that makes them more like BC or Washington state ferries. Thanks!

My current region just broke 500 000. Currently working on the city island airport, a small regional airport modeled after Toronto City Airport. Any suggestions? Things to change or what I should do somewhere new?

I was watching a SC4 video and it looked like the player leveled one side of a river with the terrain tool and then someone leveled the other side of the river to the exact same height. Almost as if he leveled one side, saved the height, released the tool, moved to the other side and then when he used the tool again it leveled to the saved height instead of the height on the other side. Is that possible or was he just a terraforming magician and guessed the height perfectly? If it is I'll feel bad about all these years of playing. Thanks!

At the moment I'm working on a region where I need lots of C jobs. As such I am placing down a whole lot of education buildings, basically just carpeting cities with schools, libraries, and museums until my education map is all green and I have high EQ rating. At the moment it works but I'm wondering if there is a good explanation behind how education work in SC4, especially how the different types of education buildings work. I've noticed that I can just place libraries everywhere and eventually my EQ will get quite good but is that as good for CO demand as having a elementary, highschool, university, library and museum? Does it help to have different types of buildings or is the final EQ score all that matters? Basically I'm looking for a most detailed explanation of the education system Thanks for the help!

Interesting, very helpful. I'll have to get a hold of that guide. So I guess the EQ by Age and Pop by Age are the far more important graphs than the basic EQ. As a side note is there a minimum EQ for CO jobs or is it just higher is better? EDIT: Holy Jesus! Got the guide, so many questions answered! Never realized it went into such detail on the workings of the game engine. Lots of stuff I kinda had the gist of but never any hard data. Thanks a lot for bringing it to my attention.

I'm having troubles with pretty massive slowdown in game speed when my cities hit around 80k on large tiles. I have the NAM32 installed and the region as a whole has about 300k in 4 large tiles next to eachother with a lot of city to city traffic. Now I know SC4 is going to slow down at some point no matter how good a machine you have but from reading posts it seems like 200-300k is the more usually range. Since it seems that the traffic simulator is the limiting factor I'll add that I'm mainly using the NWM, RHW, and RTMT3.6 as transportation add-ons. The strange thing is that usually the cities will fly through months for the first few before slowing to a crawl (2 secs/day), and sometimes they will have good months where it just picks up again. I can add pictures if that would help but not sure what would be useful at the point. Is this normal behavior? Thanks. PS. I have a early-gen i5, 8GB of RAM and a 6870 GPU

Ya I know it slows down but just thought it was too small of a city for the types of slowdowns I am seeing. It seems not. Thanks for the feedback. I'll just have to use SC4 partly as a patience exercise.

I like what you've done with the place. It seems we have a similar play style. Here's my take on the same region.

Love everyone's work. daTSchikinhed what is the seawall that wraps around the city, it looks great?

I downloaded a house without noticing some neon green palms. If I fire up the lot editor and change the trees and then save what happen? Do I need to make sure there aren't any in my city? Will the neon trees just become brown boxes if there are? Will the props just change? Thanks
-
Awesome. Is it the same behavior if you change a building's stats (say coverage radius) with the reader?

Accidentally used "howdryami" in a developed city while trying to discover which cheat changes sealevel (probably not the smartest way to investigate cheats...). While I don't really care about cheating I use water as a way to stop R$$$ from moving into certain areas. Is it possible to remove the howdryami effect? Typing it again didn't seem to work. Thanks.

Amazing road, definitely looks like something that you might find in the wilderness where I live. Nice train yard, are those are all personal lots? I've been building out my port and have had to do most of the industrial stuff myself. Here is my region and transport map as of now.

I'm trying to make a filler lot for my port have a bunch of I-M jobs since everything is eye candy. I've made a new lot that that is a copy of a basic empty filler I'm using but that means that it is using the same building as the empty filler. My question is when I open the lot in SC4 Tool the job information is all in the 'building' section and that building is used all the fillers. If I add jobs to the building in the lot I want is it going to add jobs to every other lot that uses that building?

I'm having intermittent problems with the font rendering on ST. Some times the font renders very low res and causes weird pixelation issues. Here are a few pics including my address bar to show its not a system wide issue on my end. Hopefully its something I can fix though as it makes reading hard on the eyes. Thanks! Well I figured that out, it was ad-block. I assume that is intentional so I've disabled it. Definitely have no problem supporting this site through ad revenue.
-
Just for ST, not sure I like Simcity enough to live with youtube ads. Ya it really doesn't make sense that its adblock but stranger things have happened. Hopefully it doesn't happen again and I can live happily ever after.
-
Hmm interesting. Well it fixed it for now so I'll leave it off and see if it happens again.

Looks like a pretty good start to your first custom airport. I don't think the runways are to close necessarily. Often runways will cross each other. Does the airport pack have diagonal runways now? The things you miss when you take 3 year breaks... Moved onto a new area in the same region as above, prepared the mountains in the area that the city will expand to and started the coastal civil work for the port.

Just started playing SC4 again after more than a few years. I used to only work on flat land but I've decided it looks to unrealistic/boring. This is residential area of my new metropolis. Still not exactly sloped terrain but I find the terraced approach to be a happy medium. I seem to remember rules about image size on ST but don't see anything stickied?

I've watched it again now a couple times and I hear a click that doesn't sound like SC4 so maybe he's doing something tricky with another program. I realize haljackey is active on the forum so maybe he'll see this. Here is the video, I've time coded it just before it happens. http://youtu.be/PyLoFdg0eAc?t=4m8s
