  1. New London district, Kusari City

    Well hello there! How is everyone doing? This is the New London district of Kusari City. It is the centre of the Bretonian Borough of the city and has some big buildings oh yeah! 1. 2.Look at this island: Doesn't it scream "Development, development!" I had though to leave it untouched, but it seems to stick out like a sore thumb. 3. 4. It don't really like the zoning here. It's too rectangular. I'm either going to zone down some of the development into mansions, or try to increase the amount of big towers 5. 6. Ooo lots of lights! 7. 8. 9. Lastly, here is a look at the area of development so far. The biggest problem I'm running into is trying to keep CS$$ available for uneducated sims that move in, while have enough CS$$$ and CO to keep residential demand up. Tyvm for viewing!
  2. More trouble with No Job Zots

    CS$ and ESPECIALLY CS$$ are needed by all wealth levels (R$, R$$, and R$$$) at low education levels. While you can keep I-HT from taking over an I-D area because of the desirability issues, once you have enough demand for CS$$$, CO$$, and CO$$$ they can completely take over your city even if you have solid CS$ and CS$$ demand. This used to cause a problem in my cities if I expanded after the rest of the city was extremely educated and there was no CS$$ left.
  3. Baltimore district, Kusari City

    Even though this is kind of a repeat, here's Baltimore. It's one of 3 districts in the city that has no terraforming. At all. Seriously. All the "shape" is caused by zoning and transportation networks. These 3 massive sprawling districts surround the CBD of the city, making it look more realistic 1. 2. Switching out maxis trees for tropical ones has really helped, but I'm thinking maybe I should edit the street tree mod to have palms. I can't remember if I tried that already...who knows what's really in my mod folder it's like a billion files! 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. Oooo a park! 8. Mixing commercial and industrial makes these zones seem less blocky and uber-planned 9. I likey these highway lights 10. 11. Tyvm for viewing!

    Version 1b? What's going on here? What's all this business?!? Okay, bascially, this is a recreation of the original layout I had for my big city, because later versions were...not so big. The majority of tiles are undeveloped so far, but I already have 2 million sims I'm so proud!     I'm sure the residents are glad the industry and airport or far, far away from them! Smelly and ugly and loud!   Keep it up! :)

    This is based on _marsh_'s tree replacement mod. The only difference is that I used iLive reader to change the identity of the tree models used. This has a pine replacement .dat and an oak replacement .dat.     Now I think this journal needs an update! Long story short, I've got a new region. This week, _marsh_ helped me figure out how to replace all the maxis trees with tropical trees. That was nice, because I think the Pine trees took away from the whole tropical look that I was going for. 1. 2. 3, 4, 5. 6. 7. "Here are those new trees you ordered...some assembly required!" 8. 9. Since I switched street tree mods, I have to refresh every street/road in the game. Using the traffic graphic helps find the roads in dense areas! 10. 11. 12. 13.     I'm pretty sure I have that one. Isn't that a mod that adds god mode trees? I'm looking for a mod that REPLACES the default maxis trees with tropical ones, not one that adds trees, similar to how marsh replaced the trees. It's a good mod but not suitable for my city climate. In other words, if I install the mod, when I load up my city, the trees on lots are replaced.

    I have a mod request. Marsh made a mod in 2011 to replace all the Maxis trees with better ones. I was wondering how hard that would be to make with tropical trees, and if any modder might be willing to make it.
  13. Help a newb to big cities out!

    Without a screenshot I don't know how much help I can be. 1. What are the populations of commercial you have? (CS$ CS$$, CS$$$, CO$$, CO$$$) If you have all your commercial in one city the lower wealth (CS$, CS$$) will get replaced by higher wealth (CS$$$, CO$$, CO$$$) as your EQ or residents rises. There may be too little or no low wealth commercial left. New sims (who start off with 0 EQ) will have "no job zots" if they want to work at CS$ or CS$$ and it isn't there. 2. What are you spending money on? When i first started the game, I had trouble balancing the budget because I was spending too much on education. You don't need full coverage for each type of building (elementary/high school, library) you just need to cover the residential zones with some combination (i.e. if you have an area covered by a high school, don't build an elementary school or library in that area) I've heard you can gain full EQ eventually even with just libraries, but I've never tried it and never had to.

  15. Commercial vs Industrial

    A. Do high-density commercial buildings or high-density industrial buildings have a higher maximum job number potential? I believe high density commercial (skyscrapers vs. plants) have more jobs per building. However, you need both types of jobs (and some of each CS$ CS$$ CS$$$ CO$$ CO$$$ I-D I-M I-HT) in a city. B. My commercial zoning is mainly a bunch of 2 x 4 rectangles, which are virtually all taken by flea markets. What other buildings develop on 2 x 4 spaces, and what are their requirements? Thanks. Flea markets are all CS$ I think. I would rezone those as two 2x2 plots or four 2x1 plots. You need other commercial buildings. If your commercial plots are all 4 tiles deep, then almost nothing can grow there. A picture would make it a lot easier to give advice though. I don't know the types of jobs you have in your city and the demands.If I knew more I would help more!
