What is your mission when playing?
BaconElemental replied to dkempel's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
I'm more of a "wing it" guy when I play. I don't really draw up plans and just build my city according to what I think is neat for an area. I also pretty much load all my plugins for my main "relaxation and experiments" game and make a new folder in case I have specific CJs in mind. Though I am trying to replicate the concept of cities here in where I live- 20 Replies

First things first, hello guys! I thought about making a CJ that combines elements of older SimCity games to SC4. I'm not sure if it'll end up the way I like it, or whether it will end up feeling like the older SimCity games, but I'll try to do my best with it. Enjoy! I used the map, but the starting town itself is modeled after SC2K's Dullsville. There lies a town in the middle of SimNowhere, where its residents have been bored for years... too long for them to even bother counting. The location itself screamed development, and even 'metropolis.' There used to be a belief that this would be the next great city. Mayor Defacto just didn't let them have their way. For some reason, he just wouldn't let the town - now called Dullsville - grow. He was somehow content with just being... there. The citizens themselves managed to tire themselves out trying to convince Defacto... and the effect lingered. Even when he passed on and a certain Ian was elected mayor, there wasn't much cause for celebration. Everybody just seemed to be there, trudging along with the same old life. Even the Zeke family, the eccentrics in trailers who never seemed to run out of siblings, had a look of resignation on them. Fortunately, Mayor Ian didn't want to be a Defacto. And now here he is, with plans of his own - including renaming the area to Dullsville Flats. Could this be the start of great things in Dullsville? We'll find out.

Schulmanator - Thanks for the greetings! It's a new, less dull day in Dullsville. Mayor Ian looked at his budget report... Mayor Defacto might have left Dullsville stagnant, but somehow, the town made ends meet. Little by little, the city treasury grew. However, when he went to see the grim reaper, the simoleons remained. Rumor has it that he couldn't even be bothered to pass on a part of his fortune to his family. And so, Mayor Ian thought it would be nice to put some of this budget surplus to good use... "Maybe it's time someone put up a school here... but there's something missing, something that will take the dull out of Dullsv- DIAGONAL ROADS! Grid busting rocks... according to city blocks! Oh, and some gardens would be nice, too." And so, construction started. He was too pleased with himself to notice that a small fire broke out in the industrial area... But nobody seemed too interested and the fire put itself out, feeling rejected. The industrial area was given a little diagonal make-over, and the new roads seemed ready for development. The construction of better housing and a bit of city beautification sparked some interest, too. Things are starting to look up for this town. That's all for today. On another note, are there any good alternatives to the Open Paved Area? I don't like that it switches textures every now and then. I'll also get a fountain park and a pond park soon.

Do you Talk to yourself while playing simcity 4?
BaconElemental replied to Muohy's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
I do, too. I don't play naked, but I do talk to myself when I play SimCity 4. It's fun. It's along the lines of "okay, how do I develop this..." or "come on, come on, *modded building*, grow... darn." I do that in other games, too. -
Hi, maybe this one will do the trick: https://www.sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=897 It's not from Dhamp but... Best regards Hmm, I've seen that. I think it blocks all Maxis buildings of a specific wealth. But I've heard that Dhamp's mod also blocks Maxis buildings in certain building stages. I'm not sure, but that's what I'm looking for Thanks, though.

Does anyone have a copy of Dhamp's No Maxis Buildings Mod v2? I'll need it for a CJ since I need to block a specific set of buildings.

Are there any good mid-rise R$$$ buildings? Preferably for the NY/Houston tileset. It's just me, but they either end up being too tall or too short. I already have the Beige Estate and the Evergreen Hills multi-lot complexes. It's kinda off-putting to see the same Russo Condos/Hyde Condos/Braccia Building every time I have R$$$ develop.

Hello there. I have plans to make a CJ that draws inspiration and takes elements from all the previous SimCity games, mostly SC3K, and I want to hear what SC4 buildings (custom ones included) would fit in 3K's art style. So far I have: SC2K buildings by JaWood, SFBT's Microwave Power Plant, Huston's Mayhem Memorial Plaza and Aquilina Building, cogeo's Incinerator, Heblem's Kate Foundation, AndisArt's SC2013-style Homes, Don Miguel's Insurance Plaza... I think that's about it for 2K and 3K's actual buildings. I wonder what other buildings you guys think are great for SC3K's art style. Doesn't necessarily have to be recreations. If this isn't the appropriate subforum for this, please let me know. Thanks!

Hello, everyone! I'm Ian, 21, and I'm from Caloocan City, Philippines. I'm a Computer Science student, hopefully graduating in 2016. I've been a huge SimCity fan since I was around 7 years old, and SimCity 3000 was my first SimCity game. (admittedly, it was hilarious - I'd zone each type of zone in 1x1 blocks, surround them all with road, plop all the civic buildings then wonder why I lost so much money) I've also played SC2k, and a bit of vanilla SC4. Rush Hour's pretty much the SimCity game I've spent most hours with (with 3K in second). I'm also planning to get Cities:Skylines soon. Outside SimCity, I'm pretty much a gamer through and through, with my soft spot being retro games and business simulations. Some of my favorites include RollerCoaster Tycoon 2, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, Dark Souls, Fallout 1 and 2, and Unreal Tournament 2004. I also play a bit of League of Legends, but I'm not very good at it. In the rest of my free time, I like reading up on PC hardware and technology (currently saving up for a GTX 960), laughing at bad jokes and puns, watching anime, and complaining about how awful the internet in the Philippines is The community and content here are both amazing, and I think I'll enjoy my stay here

Just how many Marshall Printings do we need? And there just can't be enough Russo/Hyde Condos either. -

I guess this will serve as my introductory post to the Simtropolis forums, so hi everyone! This area is loosely based off a few blocks where I live. Nothing overly fancy, though.
