Ah another aspiring BATer. While your building is looking decent so far in modeling, if you're really recreating that building you posted I'd like you to take a closer look at the picture and notice it's facade design. Rather than me just talk up a storm I have a picture example of a "sketch" I did in Gmax for your building. I roughly pieced together what would be the top floors without textures. The Blue is the windows. There are black window frames surrounding them but they are hard to see which Just keep your window frames how they are. The rest is the facade. I may have exaggerated the facade a bit and gave it more depth but this is what it looks like to me that you're really trying to recreate. This is just an example that I hope you follow or helps you in anyway. Oh that white part at the top is in your picture though hard to see. When you model that part near the top and roof don't make it as thick as what I did. Like I said rough sketch. And of course on yours there will be more windows and floors. Your windows though need to be a little deeper into the facade. And your spandrels(the parts between windows) will be taller than mine. But I hope this example helps you get a better idea.

Yeah I know what you mean Aaron. I love Lower Manhattan but the set up of some of the city blocks and the way the buildings connect to others have kept me from doing quite a few of the buildings. As much as I'd like to, I'm not too sure of myself in making the building that wraps around Home Insurance Plaza back there. It's an old building from 1929 and quite detailed compared to Home Insurance Plaza. I finally figured out the name or address of that building, 60-66 John Street. You can check out its only three images here on Emporis http://www.emporis.com/building/6066johnstreet-newyorkcity-ny-usa or look up some on Google Images. I know I recently made a more detailed building, Bankers Trust Funds, but that took a lot of work and I'm not sure about doing something like that again. And to be honest Bankers Trust Funds wasn't even that detailed. I was able to make it look more detailed with some carefully placed primitives. I guess that makes me sound like a trickster. I really would like Home Insurance Plaza to be placed in my city soon, and what I was going to do is simply plop or let another building grow behind it to cover that space in the mean time. So I think I'll leave it without that other building for now. Maybe trying it in the future? I don't know for sure. But I mean if someone would like to give that gem a try I'm sure we could merge the models together in like the Lot Editor or something. But to combat that bald wall back there I think I will add some garages and doors and what not, since that area will be an alley on its final Lot. How about that for now?

Hey this came out so fantastic! Thanks for sharing. Lovely details.

While the Chase Fountain is almost ready I believe Home Insurance Plaza V2 is about ready as well. Here's a day and night view of zoom 4. Now my only real problem to face is below. In real life this area is covered up by another building. The building however would make this huger than it needs to be and I was only focusing on Home Insurance Plaza itself for now. But for the sake of having it being a stand a lone tower for people to use in different urban settings they see fit how should I approach this area? In real life there's no garages or doors back here since a big art deco building wraps around the back like an L shape. Any thoughts or suggestions? For the upload I want it to be freely used anywhere but also retain that urban feel where it can be connected with other buildings on one big city block like in real life. And the reason why that back blind wall isn't lined out with that outer "core" is because like I said the real building behind it wraps around the tower in an L shape. Any thoughts or suggestions on that, and as well as the building itself?

I LOVE IT! But...but you keep teasing us.

Thank you for utilizing my rendition of the Twin Towers so nicely! That was very nice to see. My god your urban areas are fantastic. I loved it.

Matt- Really appreciate the help. Well here is where I am now with the fountain. Should I shift the color of the water jets to match the water in the pond? I noticed in the photo of the actual pond that the water jets were off center of the pond itself. If this is it, then all I have to do is refit the cylinder LODs a bit and then export this baby. Then T Wrecks, I'd love for you to lot and re-mod my One Chase Manhattan Plaza if you can.

You're a some kind of BATing wizard. This building is perfect to fill that demand for high tech industries. I'm sure it will go well with the one you released a while back.
  9. adityagusetyawan's BAT thread

Harishna is very knowledgeable with this stuff and has provided more than valid points to help you improve. His sketch of the model was an example that you should try to recreate. It will take a lot more effort but the end result is all that matters. I don't have anything to really add since Harishna has hit the nail on the head with everything.
  10. Going to write a review of SC4 for my English Composition Class. We're writing reviews and I was able to pick a game. Might as well be SimCity 4. ^_^

Matt- I believe I applied your suggestions more correctly this time. I'm liking the result so far so let's see what everyone thinks. Do you think I should apply self-illumination to the glass too? I usually do that with all my glass textures for a better reflected appearance, SimFox taught me that. Oh and a water jet prop to put onto my BAT model? That would be perfect! Since there are a few water jets a little off-center in this area. Don't mind that the old texture is still visible on the reverse side of the glass. That won't be visible in the final export anyway. Not sure about how the glass looks at night. There's an omni in the very center of the fountain, as well as a target spot pointing down onto the water. I've been considering making the actual plaza but...it's big and rendering it would be just...bleh.
  12. nybt-forum-threads Sgt Pepper's NYBT Projects

Mattb325- Would what I did here be close or in the right direction? I have an ingame shot. Not sure if I did this right. I also don't like how the railing got thicker once on a lot whereas in BAT it's still thin on the part over the lot(it's still thinner on the part that's in front of the water). If this is right, should I turn the brick texture that's beneath the water to a more yellow tint to match the glass? Oh, and I forgot to set the prop for Nightlights to be True so here's just a render of it.
  13. nybt-forum-threads Sgt Pepper's NYBT Projects

So fake an interior basically? Hmm..that's something new to me if that's what you meant. Would it be like...me modeling the interior, take a picture of the preview render, then pasting that image onto the glass? Refitted for the glass of course? I wonder how I'd light that up without a night map though... Projector Maps? While I've suddenly found myself in so much free time all of a sudden I decided to show where I'm at currently with the HSBC Bank Building. Zoom 4 I thought it would be able to see the whole thing in the zoom 4 view but I was wrong. It's actually slightly shorter than my Marine Realty/Laissez-Faire Investments building. I think it's because I made the floor height a little taller on that one. The way this one is scaled should match a more realistic height compared to my One Chase Manhattan Plaza. Two Zoom 5 Pics- Slowly but surely. Still some base details to add. Then that roof which is more complicated than the roof I gave Marine Realty.
  14. Laissez-Faire Investments and Marine Realty V2

Straight West- Well 1 State Street Plaza and 1 Battery Park Plaza have been done by our other NYBT member darknono35. His versions were great maybe underscaled but great. I considered making 17 State Street actually...since the version an old member did was taken down. But I think it's too early to think on that right now since I got One Chase Manhattan Plaza, Home Insurance Plaza V2, and the actual HSBC Bank Building in NY coming up soon. Then of course there's those WTC Buildings I need to finish.
  15. nybt-forum-threads Sgt Pepper's NYBT Projects

Aaron- Thanks mate! I think I'm done adding all the roof details and should just finish texturing. Then there's that base... T Wrecks- Thank you! I'm glad I have a more real set up for roof junk. I think in the past I used to just blindly fill spaces just for the sake of junk being there. Glad this is an improvement compared to my others. Of course looking at the real roof of the building itself was good inspiration. Gn_leugim, and Mattb325, thanks for ya'll's ideas. Gn_leugim, I was a little confused by the modifiers you've mentioned but went with just making a simple cylinder and renaming them to LODs 3, 4, and 5. Can you show me a picture to explain what you were saying a little better? I'm slow to follow sometimes, and this would be something I should know for the future. And of course, Mattb325 I appreciate your input as well. I had it set with the 18 sides and the height segment being just one. Man I tried applying those helpful suggestions and I got so close but then this happened. I guess the cylinder was a little taller than it should have been but even if I had it tight on the railing, you'd still be able to see the interior ground through the railing. If that railing wasn't there then it would work. But if there's no railing then it's not safe. So is there a work around for that? I thought about just simply not modeling the interior since it's so small anyway and wouldn't be easily noticed. By the way most of it's still untextured and the model you see is a Low quality so that's why the model looks a little funky. The only thing I textured was the transparent glass, the transparent water, and the brick base the water is above.
  16. Laissez-Faire Investments and Marine Realty V2

SirLegoZach- You mean the bright blue glass building with the orange walls? That's one of Bixel's recent buildings. Search his name and then look at all the files he uploaded. It's one of his most recent uploads. I think it's like Wu Wei Group.
  17. Amthaak's other bats thread

Won't believe what I found. Not sure if you've seen this before but this is one of the only color photos I could find of the building in the 1960's before it's facade was stripped and redone. It's quite a saturated photo but I hope it helps in anyway. I still can't believe that they thought it would be better to strip it's facade and turn it into that international styled building(can't even see the new facade anymore honestly). I guess it would make sense that they got rid of the ornate facade since it later became a tower buried in billboards.
  18. Laissez-Faire Investments and Marine Realty V2

Oh forgot to mention this in the description but it's inspired by the HSBC Bank Building in New York. I consider it a practice BAT to get the actual building I'm making for NYBT properly done. Any suggestions?

After some thinking I wanted to make a V2 of my Marine Realty and Laissez-Faire Investments BAT because I didn't like how it turned out and I felt like I rushed it. Now several months later, I have a new version for you all! Differences in this version are that it's taller, improved textures, fixed the appearance of the back, changed the base a little, and the roof is different of course. It also fits a smaller lot size than the previous version. This sleek modern tower is meant for your urban cities and dense Downtowns or Central Business Districts. It's about 50 stories tall(I think I counted 49 floors excluding that top mech floor which would make it 50 actually) but it's very narrow and fits a more compact lot. Included, like my previous upload is High Wealth and Medium Wealth Commercial Office versions. There's no difference in appearance of the different wealth versions and the lots are the same. So you are free to either chose one depending on what wealth version you'd prefer, or you can actually have both versions in your game without problems. Also included is my take on an abstract sculpture. It's actually the same exact one from the previous upload, but it's model and desc. files are included with this upload. You can't see it on the lot since most of the lot is covered by the urban landscape of Branhattan but it's there. If you'd like to use the sculpture in a park or on some other lot you are free to do so. It's a prop simply labeled "SquareSculpture" in the props menu in the Lot editor. I recommend removing V1 from your cities and plugins folders though. I'm not sure if having both V1 and V2 would be a good idea but I'd imagine there wouldn't be conflicts since the file names are slightly different. Ze Almighty Statz Laissez-Faire Investments- CO$$$- 5982 Lot Size- 3x4 Marine Realty Company- CO$$- 6005 Lot Size- 3x4 Dependencies- Yes, there is one dependency as I tried my hand at lotting this myself with some custom props. BSC MEGA Props CP Vol. 1 https://www.sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=1180 I hope you will also enjoy this one! I finished this one up to ease the burden of how many BAT projects I already have. Maybe now I can get back to my NYBT projects and the World Trade Center Complex buildings I'm making. -Sgt Pepper
  20. NYBT Bankers Trust Funds

APSMS- This is a Gmax BAT. So there's no need to make a Darknite version.
  21. nybt-forum-threads Sgt Pepper's NYBT Projects

Gn_leugim- I edited the wall textures a bit. I hope this looks better. Zoom 5 Top. I also added a roof texture and some other details(most of the details mainly the hvac units and the water towers) are still untextured but I'm getting there. Also can someone educate me a bit on LODs? I've been modifying the LODs to this where the interior won't show but I can't exactly do that with a box. :| I did that export just to test how the LODs would make it look. It's a low quality export. I set the LODs to be at like Z=0 but that didn't make the entire bottom hidden. The only other option I have in mind is making the BATed ground that surrounds it a square shape, or extending the cylindrical ground out further but doing that it may not fit a road round about and be used for an avenue...
  22. So I re-exported a building that I already had in my game. Like the model was already modded and placed into my game but I decided to re-export the orginal model to fix a texture, but didn't bulldoze the building already in game. When the export finished, it automatically replaced the building already in game, since I didn't change the model name. Did any other BATer not know that? Or am I really slow? :P

It looks much better! Just out of curiosity, will you be adding some concrete steps up to the door? I notice it kinda "floats" above the ground. Oh and one other detail I think you should add. You notice on the real life picture you posted, that metal that is around the base of the chimney and surrounds the second floor's protruding window? I think that should be added for a nicer touch on the building. I must say congratulation on such an improvement. I'm sure you can handle the night scene as well.
