Looks pretty nice. Might pick it up this time.

If EA decides to make a SC5, it will probably not live up to the community's expectations. When has EA ever done that recently. As the article said, "Look at The Sims" (He probably forgot to put a 3 afterwards) when giving an example of a poorly made game. Again, the first 2 series were excellent, but the 3 series has been rushed and milked to death with skimpy and buggy expansions. (The Sims Studio is known to be working on multiple expansions at once, and have even reportedly started production of TS4, even though 3 still has 5 more expansions to go!) I wish I could be wrong here. Unless Will Wright returns to EA to work on this and hires the NAM team and the best BAT designers out there, I'm afraid SC5 will be massive disappointment when it comes out.

CitiesXL 2012 Announced, Modding Support Among New Features
GeneralEtrius posted a submission in News
The next installment in the CitiesXL franchise, CitiesXL 2012, has been announced. The game is set to feature over 1000 structures and 60 playable maps, and will be more mod-friendly than previous editions. It scheduled for an October 2011 release. -
That's surprising, because the past few quarters they posted serious losses.

I honestly don't know why Will Wright is still with the Stupid Fun Club. I haven't heard anything from that particular group. He really ought to take control of the Sims Studio, because that group is absolutely wrecking The Sims 3. They seem to have no idea what they are doing half the time.

EA is a titan, and they know that. However, their arrogance will be there downfall. EA has been incurring HUGE financial losses over the past few years, yet they continue to acquire new studios. They just bought PopCap for over 750 Million Dollars. I really hope Maxis will return with a new Simcity one day, but that doesn't look too probable. Hell, EA is even slowly killing one of their biggest brands, the Sims. The Sims 3 has never had a good expansion so far. All are overpriced, buggy, and skimpy on content. I really wonder what goes through the heads of EA's executives. Just because an inferior spin-off of a series doesn't sell well, that doesn't mean you kill the series! I seriously hope EA goes bankrupt. Then their devs can find studios that actually care about quality over quantity.

It's a tragedy that Simcity is dead. Thanks a lot, EA. We've got sequels to all three of those game coming up, so we'll have to see what Cities XL 2012, Anno 2070, and Tropico 4 have to offer.

Does anyone have links to some good modern school BATs? It seems everything here is based on 1950's designs, and they really stick out badly in my modern cities.

What is your favorite SimCity 4 advisor?
GeneralEtrius replied to gamzdude's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
When I first started playing SC4, I really didn't know how to manage civic building capacities, so my schools and hospitals were always overflowing. Since I played on easy, and didn't know how to disable advice pop ups.......well, the health and education adviser pissed me off, to put it mildly. She's still my least favorite. I had the common sense to keep my water pumps away from pollution, so I never got any trouble from the environmental adviser. She did kind of annoy me about trees though. As for my favorite, I'd say the City Planner. He actually gives helpful alerts about demand, and he gives you your rewards! Now, Maxis always warned us about how the advisers had their own agendas...I've figured out which ones are advising you because they know what the city needs, those who just want to be heard, and those who are there for their own benefits..... Love: City Planner: He helps you run the show. He's there to tell you what the city wants and when they need it. Safety: He obviously wants every bit of crime crushed, and will be heard when there's a problem zone. Utility: He will pound on your door until that aging power plant or over capacity grid is fixed. No one likes blackouts! "Just there": Transportation: He lets you know about back ups all right, but he does seem a little to happy when you put rapid transit in the city. He takes his family for a ride on it! Finance: I never hear from her, so I just put her in this category. Own agenda....: Environmental: Obviously working for the interests of environmentalist groups. Health and Education: Likewise for teacher and healthcare unions. She whines whenever something is just over that particular limit. Excuse me for this rather silly post. -
Where can I find Sc4 cities?
GeneralEtrius replied to Mikemc's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
To be honest I just obliterated Kondradshoe and started over when I first got the game. With only $700, there was no way a beginner player like me at the time could fix that city. If people want to swap cities, just create one purpose email addresses and send each other the files. -
CitiesXL 2012 Announced, Modding Support Among New Features
GeneralEtrius commented on GeneralEtrius's article in News
Just so people know, FHE will be giving a discount to people who bought XL 2011, so yes it will be like an expansion for those who have 2011. At least Focus seems to care about this series and its customers. EA would offer no discount, making this series somewhat like Madden. Half the features would be broken anyway if EA made it. On a more positive note, CXL 2012 has hinted at some modding tools on their site, including something like the BAT tool. If it's compatible with 3DS Max (or whatever the good BAT teams use), we could be seeing our SC4 favorites in HD! -
Sorry, but you aren't allowed to do that. What's wrong with giving links to good BATs?

Any good house or apartment BATs? I'm looking for some more variety in my suburbs.

Extremely repetitive commericial buildings
GeneralEtrius posted a topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
It seems that one or two types of commerical office buildings (Wren Insurance, that blue box-line building) grow like weeds in commerical districts. Why does this happen, and why are there such a lack of variety of buildings for this growth stage? -

Creating cohesive neighborhoods.
GeneralEtrius replied to JBridges's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
You can also be very artificial and plop all your houses and buildings. That's what I'm doing for a "synthetic city" of mine. -
Originally posted by: jim 546 Nope, it would require modifying the exe file, which is illegal.quote> The code isn't in the data files? Isn't the executable just supposed to package all the data together and run the program? Anyways, there is no way to make bigger city tiles. It may seem lame now, but back with SC4 was released, computers had trouble handling the 4x4 tiles when they were like around half full. If computers could run better at the time, Maxis would likely have made bigger tiles.

Can anyone give links to the police stations that can stop crime in large lots?
