No Job signs over High wealth residential
GeneralEtrius posted a topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
I've been zoning residential. The houses that are built there start as low wealth and gradually move up and rebuild into high wealth residential. However, the sims livng there apparantly can't find jobs and the No Job sign appears over the houses. Eventually the sims leave, and lower wealth sims move in. I would zone for commerce, but there is no demand for high wealth commerce. Why is this happening, and can anyone help me solve this problem?- 35 Replies

I started a new region, on a large tile (large river, industrial on one side, residential/commerce on the other), and after filling the tile up with low density, I now wanted to upgrade. For some reason, the buildings aren't growing. My population is 21,000, I've got all the city services and water set up, yet it still isn't upgrading. This has never happened to me before!

Medium Density is not appearing

Yes...... -
Although the textures look a little bit on the stalinist side... That's because it's custom scenery, and OPs graphics are on low. It looks much better with high settings.

XL Nation is known for having technical difficulties. More people try to access the site than the servers can handle at certain times.

Yes, expert mode is excellent once you get the hang of it. The restrictions on road placement are just silly, since you'll need high capacity roads as your city grows, and demo is not pretty.

If you have 12, you should have a discount if you got it through Steam. If not I'd leave it, it adds 50 new buildings and a few features I can't remember. If you are new, I'd recommend it, but wait for a steam sale. I got it for 10 bucks, and the summer sale is coming. It's pretty underrated and very mod friendly.

newbie question from a city building game fan
GeneralEtrius replied to Wartoad's topic in Cities XXL
Certain buildings are locked until a population threshold, but I believe there are mods available to unlock them. -

Discussion about Always-On Connection to Origin
GeneralEtrius replied to neurokirurgi's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
While this is disappointing, someone should write a cordial letter to the CEO of EA: John Riccitiello, and calmly and politely explain to him how we as a community feel. Riccitiello is the one that has led EA along the digital and DLC pathway since he became CEO in 2007, and because of the success, EA has been doing more and more DLC and online stuff. He has recently said that he believed that single player was on its way out, and that most games will soon be multiplayer. It's not too late. The executives at EA see everything as dollars, and if we can convince them that removing the always-on connection requirement will create more dollars, then they will likely order it to be removed. -

You do realize that this is VERY early in development, right? -
I'm a bit worried about the Origin version, which will have THREE building sets that you can't get otherwise. If a tool similar to the BAT is released, it won't be a big deal, but for now it makes me feel a little bit uneasy, since EA is clearly sticking its fingers into Maxis' decisions.

It's official. SimCity 5 is coming back to Maxis. Watch it Live Now!
GeneralEtrius commented on Dirktator's article in News
This is beyond awesome. It really seems like Maxis was unleashed to create this game. Thanks to EA's obsession with social stuff, I'm sure there will be multiplayer, but I don't think it will be a big deal So stoked! -
I was reading something about the development of SC4, and heard that Maxis planned to have the players be able to upgrade City Hall and the Seaports just like Airports, but the feature wasn't finished because of time restriction. However, I've heard that some people have finished this feature and made it functional. Is this true at all?

I've been seeing a few discussions about the Simcity_1.dat file and its so called secrets? What's all that about? From what I understood it was just a block of code that was part of the game files.
-
Okay, thanks for explaining that. I've heard that there was some cut content that somehow was left in there?

This lacks detail, ranging from textures to props to layout. All you have are the two holes with solid color textures, and some trees scattered around! I'm going to be positive and say that this is a good start, and I HIGHLY recommend you open up a BAT thread and post your progress so people can comment and suggest improvements, instead of just rushing to the upload button like you did. Follow my advice, do some work on this and upload it as a Version 2, and the response will be much better. But for now, this is a 1/5.

The game actually isn't being finicky here. Sims will walk 20 tiles only if you're using the NAM traffic simulator. With that simulator, they always take the fastest route (at least for the morning commute). If the Sims are walking 20 tiles, it's because they're walking to a rapid transit station (or a bus that takes them to a rapid transit station), and their overall trip is still shorter than if they drove. I do have NAM. Can't imagine how I played SC4 without it!

The little Sims you see running around are really just animated props. Usually they come from placing parks and plazas (though the game does display them using sidewalks when the traffic simulator is concerning pedestrian traffic), the prop is programed to animate usually in a circle. It doesnt not care where it animates, it just has a certain radius. You'll see Sims walking into the street, through buildings, etc. It never really bothered me. As for the Sims driving instead of walking, the game can be finicky with this. Like the others said, use of mass transit depends on largely on wealth level and how far away the stations are. Some sims will drive if the station is two tiles away, some will walk 20 tiles to get to the station.

Gentlemen, my hat's off to you. Thanks to your support, Simcity 4 has two new fans! Another reason why I love this community. Also, taking a look at those landfills, you should do something about them. They project a radius of negative desirability that will kill local medium and high wealth demand. You can get rid of garbage by building a city that has large landfill, set up a neighbor deal at the highest capacity, and never go back to the landfill city, which makes it a trash sink. However, you will need to periodically check trash levels as your city may (and probably will) reach a point where it produces more garbage than it exports. As a result, it piles up, killing desirability, and your utilities adviser usually doesn't alert you to the problem, leaving you to discover it once you notice buildings abandoning. The second way is waste disposal lots. Recycling centers always help, but some great trash killers and the waste to energy plant (the default one is a huge polluter, so here is a cleaner one. https://www.simtropolis.com/forum/files/file/14358-bsc-waste-to-energy-plant/ Also, here is the "Black Hole" waste management plant. https://www.simtropolis.com/forum/files/file/17907-black-hole-waste-management-v2/ These options will clear out that landfill and open up more areas to development.

I knew that. Can someone answer my question?

Is there any exclusive content? I usually get buildings as soon as they pop up on the STEX, so I want to know if its worth paying money for.

Hey all, I was looking for some good school BATs that have a nice modern design, as well as good capacity and radius (what really matters ). Thing is, the Maxis schools and quite a few other user's school BATs, while nice, all look like they were built in the 30s and 40s before contemporary architecture, and they really clash with the rest of the city. Any links, or heck, even a creation of a whole new BAT would be BEYOND appreciated!
