Maybe I should mention that I host the SimMars page on Facebook. Not much going on there either right now but I'm working on the notion of reviving this project. Has anyone tried using the new 3D Builder in Windows 10 to create a BAT? https://www.facebook.com/SimMars/

Shoutout to the old team! What is everyone up to these days? I can assure you, if you are wondering, that there is NO MONEY to be made in Second Life!

In response to your question about elevated rail -- yes. There were two stations for e-rail. I'm sure I still have them if anyone is interested in releasing them. I don't have the time myself but would be happy to share unreleased content with other team members to work with. Naturally one ought to try contacting Renedius and any other designers that created these BATs but they were all freely given to the team and so are available to be released under the SimMars brand. Sorry I haven't been around for a while. Who is running this show now?- 31 Replies

To address your question about lighting - use whatever suits you. Mars ought to be colorful! I found that the most important lighting tip is to set the orange color on reflective surfaces by setting the specularity. And don't feel like you have to use the same textures as before - we introduced dozens of new textures in beta3. Another important point about lighting is that you should light the interior of large buildings even in the daytime to show off the details inside. -

@ bugs -- The file you want is called Marsterraine-1.dat -- search for it in your plugins and delete it. If it is in a folder called #Textures you should delete this whole folder. If you installed the Terraformer 1000 you should look for it in its own folder and delete it too or move it out of your active Plugins. -

We expect to have the next release ready sometime before the first colonists actually arrive on Mars. I'm afraid we can't be any more specific than that at this time. -
I like the stairs. It's a sweet little build. Nicely detailed - I wouldn't change a thing unless you just wanted to try it a different way.

Do you have the disk in the drive when loading the update -- it wont work unless you do. Also the disk is necessary for seeing the results of the update in-game.
Where will I put it? Is there a "readme" file?
@Commander General Laurens -- Readme is included. Use just like any other terrain mod; if you are using SimMars, place in the SimMars Plugins folder; for regular SC4, just place in the SC4 Plugins folder.

If you don't know me yet from work with the SimMars project, you'll get to know me pretty soon. Let's start with my terrain mod - the Terraform 1000 package. This should be ready to download by the end of the month.
-
Don't know anything about SC Terraformer - I have never been able to get it to work for me. Render using the old fashioned method by placing the whole folder in your regions folder then open the game and open the region from the Region menu. You'll see large flat green nothing - press CTRL+ALT+Shift+R and browse to the folder in your regions and select the .jpg file. Region will render normally. Indeed the terrain you see in the picture is SimMars and you will need that to have the Martian color. You might also enjoy playing it with any of the other terrain mods that are available on the STEX.
