  1. Show us your Airports!

Bereiten Sie für den Start. Prepare for takeoff. Witness my most advanced SC4 airport design yet. Departures begin on 23.12.11
  2. Hey folks! I'm quite bored, so I've decided to do something unusual. I'll be taking requests - FROM YOU - for an airport recreation. This is not a CJ, per se, and will not replace my current CJ, but will instead act as a supplementary showcase for airport recreations. But first, to pique your interest, here's a sample recreation of mine: Sacramento International Airport (KSMF), with a Google Earth shot for comparison. --- My recreations are fairly accurate, although there are obvious constraints concerning various aspects, such as terminal and roadway design. I tend to skimp on specific details, granting preference to creating an accurate aerial overview shot like the one above. With such limitations in mind, I ask that your requests comply with the following parameters: 1. The airport must fit in a large city tile! I'm not going to create Denver International for you because it's just too damn big. That basically means the entire airport must fit comfortably within a 12,000 foot-by 12,000 foot box. No exceptions whatsoever. 2. When viewed in real life with Google Earth, the airport has to have good quality at high zooms. If the airport is blurry on Google Earth I'm not going to be able to see any details. 3. The major runways (used regularly by commercial aircraft), if there are more than one, must be parallel and/or at 90 degree angles. I don't have the capacity to create diagonal runways at this point in time. If your airport has a smaller general aviation runway at a 45 degree angle, that is acceptable, but don't go too far with that. Runway orientation does not matter, but keep in mind your runway headings will be 9/18/27/36 no matter what they are in real life. 4. For the love, it needs to have at least some commercial airline service. I'm not going to bother considering your local county airpark. 5. If you want fancy content that's not publicly availably or isn't LOT'ed (like certain custom planes), you'll need to either LOT it or BAT it yourself and email it to me. I have no expertise with these tools. --- ENTRY: Anyone can enter. Just provide the name of the airport, the city and state (or country) it's in, the ICAO code, and a few sentences about why I should pick your request. Keep in mind that it's highly unlikely that I will have actually traveled through any of these. I'll take requests for three days or so before I pick an airport, at that point I will score them and pick the highest. Keep in mind I will heavily favor airports which are friendly to the SC4 grid (i.e. lots of straight lines). Since airports are huge projects, it'll likely be up to two months before I roll out the completed product on this thread, though I will post screenshots of the airport under construction. Don't fret if your request isn't chosen this time around - I'll repeat the same process every couple of months. --- SAMPLE SUBMISSION SCORES: I'll rank their recreation potential on a scale of 0-10. KSMF - Sacramento, CA. 10/10 - Parallel runways, simple layout, boxy design, medium sized - can't go wrong here. KSAT - San Antonio, TX. 8/10 - Simple parallel/perpendicular runways, only real ding here is the weird terminal/parking layout. KLGA - New York City, NY. 6/10 - Perpendicular runways and fits quite nicely in a city tile, but complicated terminal/road layout and terraforming the water make this more challenging. KSEA - SeaTac, WA. 4/10 - Parallel runways, but diagonal terminals and a complicated taxiway design make this tough. KMEM - Memphis, TN. 2/10 - Parallel runways, but the terminal design is complicated. Even worse, I would be forced to cut out the entire FedEx hub and runway at the northern end of the airport. Not a desirable option at all. KMSP - Minneapolis-Saint Paul, MN. 0/10 - Runways are at weird angles, won't fit on a large city tile, complicated design. Makes a recreation impossible. --- If you have questions, ask away. But send in those requests! - The_Hutt
  3. Inspirations

Welcome to Inspirations! I'll be very blunt. There is no region. There is no city. There is no population. There are no names. You will find nothing here except the figments of my imagination made incarnate. You will find, in a word, my inspirations. Each of postings will have a theme. Some themes will be tightly focused. Others will be broad. Either way, each will consist of a single word. So, then... Your comments are appreciated! - The_Hutt
  4. Show us your Airports!

    Pembroke Valley International Airport
  5. Show us your Airports!

Here's a preview of Empire County International Airport: More will follow soon, probably in a CJ. All other airports simply fail compared to this monstrosity.
  6. Buses cost.

Most mass transit systems, particularly in the US, are subsidized by tax dollars. Farebox revenue collection rates vary widely between agencies, but because of the labor/mechanical costs inherent to bus and rail systems, it is almost impossible to operate at a profitable margin without undermining the affordability that makes transit a viable alternative to driving..
  7. Impressive, although I might remind you that larger size doesn't necessarily equate to better realism. I'll have to take the winner on myself, I suppose ; )
  8. Sim City 4 Airport Contest!

    It's been two weeks...any progress?
  9. Show us your airport!

Josh6 - nice job with the buses, it reminds me of Washington Dulles.
  10. Transferring Files

Hey, brand new Mac user here. I've just acquired a copy of Sim City 4 Deluxe for Mac and I'm wondering if I can simply copy/paste my old plugins folder on my old Windows to the new Mac on a flash drive. Will there be any compatibility issues? I've already downloaded a separate copy of the NAM for obvious reasons, but than that is there anything I should know about? Thanks.
  11. LuBu's Sound Barrier Wall Set

You might want to include an inside corner piece as well.

  13. Wolf Plaza

Definitely worth the download, good work.
  14. How to lower commute time.

Have you installed a traffic simulator with the NAM? That will cut down drastically on the commute time problem.
  15. GMC RTS 1990 New York and New Jersey

Nice! Can't wait for the Orion VII's to come out.
  16. Show us your airport!

Welcome to Terragen International Airport! Terragen International Airport is a major aerial gateway located in the fictional Crescent County, California. It is a new focus city for two airlines, Southwest Airlines and United Airlines, and is served by 14 airlines and 2 subsidiaries to 48 destinations in Canada, Great Britain, Japan, and the US. Twenty million passengers passed through the airport in 2008. The airport has 50 gates and two parallel runways. Runway 18L/36R is 11,020 feet x 150 feet, while Runway 18R/36L 8920 feet x 150 feet. Both are capable of handling full-size jets. The airport features a large midfield terminal complex and has three concourses. A brand new international terminal is currently under construction, and is slated to open in the summer of 2012. An additional 25-gate satellite concourse to expand domestic capacity is planned but has not been officially approved due to the stagnating economy. Concourse A is located immediate beyond both security checkpoints, and the layout hugs the terminal building. It has nine gates and is serviced by the following airlines: Delta Air Lines: Gates A1-A3 (Atlanta, Cincinnati, New York-JFK, Salt Lake City) JetBlue Airways: Gates A4-A5 (Boston, Long Beach) Continental Airlines: Gates A6-A9 (Cleveland, Honolulu, Houston-Intercontinental, Newark) Concourse B has 13 gates. It is being used temporarily for international flights until the new Concourse D is completed; however, domestic airlines are still serviced through here as well. Concourse B is served by the following airlines: British Airways: Gate B1 (London-Heathrow) Alaska Airlines: Gate B2-B3 (Portland OR, Seattle-Tacoma) Northwest Airlink: Gate B3 (Detroit) Note: Delta Air Lines will be consolidating this flight under their existing merger with Northwest within a matter of months. At that point Alaska Airlines will claim sole control of the gate. Virgin America: Gate B4 (San Francisco) Note: plane shown is Virgin Blue livery temporarily leased to Virgin America Frontier Airlines: Gate B5 (Denver) US Airways: Gates B6-B8 (Charlotte, New York-LaGuardia, Philadelphia, Phoenix) WestJet: Gates B9-B10 (Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver) Air Canada Jazz Gate B11 (Vancouver)b]Horizon Air: Gates B12-B13 (Portland OR, Seattle-Tacoma, Spokane) Concourse C is a remote concourse connected to the main terminal via a ground-level walkway. It contains 28 gates. The west wing is served by the following airlines: United Express: Gates C1-C4 (Boise, Denver, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Portland OR, Reno-Tahoe, San Francisco, Seattle-Tacoma United Airlines: Gates C5-C13 (Baltimore-Washington, Boston, Chicago-O'Hare, Dallas-Fort Worth, Denver, Los Angeles, Orlando, San Francisco, Tokyo-Narita, Washington-Dulles) The east wing of Concourse C is served by the following airlines: American Airlines: Gates C14, C16, C18 (Boston, Chicago-O'Hare, Dallas-Fort Worth, Los Angeles, Miami, St. Louis) Southwest Airlines: Gates C15, C17, C19-C28 (Albuquerque, Austin, Burbank, Chicago-Midway, Denver, Houston-Hobby, Kansas City, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Ontario CA, Orange County, Phoenix, Portland OR, Reno/Tahoe, Sacramento, Salt Lake City, San Diego, San Francisco, San Jose, Seattle/Tacoma, Spokane) Concourse D is currently under construction. When completed, the concourse will contain 12 gates, and the new terminal extension will expand the airport's capacity to handle international transpacific and transatlantic flights. New routes to Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, and Mexico are all under consideration. Terragen International Airport can be accessed in several ways. Shown above is the intersection of the airport access road with CA Route 21. From the north, CA 21 is an eight-lane freeway that heads into the downtown core. South of the intersection, the freeway narrows to just four lanes and heads into the unincorporated suburbs and rural areas of the south county. This portion passes the airport via a trench that stradles the western taxiways. Public transportation is available. A number of bus routes serve the airport, and there is also a light-rail connection - CityTrak's Green Line terminates at the airport. The airport contains several long-term parking lots that are connected to the terminals via shuttle buses. One of these is located in the median of CA 21. Rental car facilities are available offsite via shuttle bus. These are also in the median of CA 21. Several hotels are available to passengers passing through. Here is a small selection of them; some are located farther away. A small general aviation area is located at the north end of the airport. The main general aviation area is located between the runways on the south side of the airport. Cargo facilities are also based here. Shown below are some miscellaneous shots: That's all!

  18. Sim City 4 Airport Contest!

I'll put up my winning entry for show as soon as I put the finishing touches on it. (It can't hurt to be confident, can it?)
  19. BAT Request Thread

Orion VII Next Generation Bus Left view: Rearview: Description: The Orion VII NG is the flagship product of Orion International (previously known as Orion Bus Industries). It features a highly modern, sleek design that can fit into both European and North American style cities. The skin shown is used by Sacramento Regional Transit and uses clean, compressed natural gas for fuel. Why this would be beneficial for the game or community: There's an obvious dearth of good city bus designs and skins on the STEX. Most resemble ugly boxes, at best. There ought to be at least some demand for some better buses.
  20. Underground Car Park

    Beyond stunning. 10/10
  21. Google finds Atlantis?

Yeah. This is similar to dictionaries listing words that literally don't exist in order to catch copyright infringers.
  22. Montreal bus 3

Which part of the phrase "EDIT FUNCTION" don't you understand?
  23. Show us Your Interchanges!

Haljackey - where'd you get that modern-looking train station in Pic 17? I'd like to have it. Nice interchanges, by the way.
  24. Dutch City Bus Rotterdam RET Citaro

It's a little too boxy and flat - the bus itself could use some curves and other details.
