A slice of Roquefort cheese (always wanted to try it) and some fries please bartender . I can't eat too much after yesterday's dinner at home; I can feel my heart clogging up with cholesterol already .

 

My pet Zuke thanks you for your compliment. And yes, I have considered sending him for some burp supression classes, just haven't gotten around to it yet.

 

Contrary to popular belief, the accents perpetuated by Steve Irwin and his rather lamentable movies are actually rarely heard in the urban areas of Australia. IMO, the highly recognisable drawl of Australians is slowly giving way to more precise enunciation and a more American-ish tinge.

 

Anyway, are pistachios good for Zukes??

 

EDIT: 7:00 am Some of you may have noticed that I'd been doing some weird things with my signature. I was trying to create a colour blending effect. It took me an hour to finally get it right. Turns out that I forgot to put in the / to end the code once I had typed in my colours. Compunding the problem, I forgot Americans spell <font colour=*** ***> without the 'u' . I was typing in 'colour' and kept getting a bland signature.

 

Ah well, the result's worth it.

If anybody noticed, the stench of llama has been fading because of my absence, but here I am.  Glad to see everybody enjoying themselves, even the zukes.

So my week has been great.  The old apartment I've been renting back at Penn State is no longer mine.  A fine, young man took it over for me so that saves Dalai loads of cash to save up for the next, and final year of school.  Although, I need some cash for a little fun, too.  Yesterday I celebrated for several hours with friends, a cold beverage, and some great, live music provided by the Dave Matthews Band.  In short, I went to a DMB concert. Awesome time, for sure.

Bartender, please fill my glass for me... llama milk, of course.

On second thought, make it an oatmeal cookie, the other kind.  That's Goldschlager, Bailey's, and Butterscotch Schnapps.  Yum!

I need 30 bucks to pay my moms library card debt so I can get her to sign my form to get my card renewed. If parents owe money, their kids can't use the library. tomorrow is geography, and the last day I have to go to school until September 6th. The good news, if things go right tomorrow, we could have internet in a couple weeks.

@zelgadis: Daschunds? Neato. Playing with them should fix your week. But think that there is a big weekend coming up. Here in Canada, we get Canada Day (July 1), then (I live 45 minutes from Park Place) Live 8, then a day to recover, then Independence Day for our American visitors. It is going to be some wild time. Starting the night of June 30, there is going to be a blowout in southern Ontario that will rival the arrival of the Pope visiting the islands just north of Barrie.

@ hello_SC4: I know you have been brought up to eat what's put in front of you, but the zukes would have handled the prosciutto if you didn't want it. The autochef tries to please. Please accept this peeled, sliced honeydew melon as our apology.

@ephorex_77: I was sorry to hear about your contre temps with your ex-friend. Anyway, Roquefort is good for you. Dietary cholesterol has not much to do with what your liver puts in your bloodstream, so enjoy. A wedge of Roquefort, a slab of butter and a nice baguette appear plated on the table along with a glass of Madeira. This is a sample. Think for more. You'll have to ask Leech10 about the dietary habits of zukes. They appear to be gobbling the pistachios down OK.

A zuke can eat just about anything and be OK. They can eat grass, rocks, and even gas and be just fine.

*The dark zukes place a strange box like thing in the nose of the ship, and attach many wires to it, crating a mess behind the front panel. Several wires go though the frame and end up in places where lights and computers will be at, and several more end near the 2 holes in the back.*

And thanks once again for your concern with my little...altercation...with my friend. I've put it behind me and we haven't talked since. But that doesn't really concern me.

 

Anyway, glad to hear that Zukes can eat almost anything. I was a little concerned when he started on the spare roof tiles in the storeroom and ended up with some paint to wash it all down. Ah well...

 

Today was my last day at school. Now, two cheery weeks of holidays beckon; all I have to do to enjoy it properly is to finish off my homework. Three assignments and a couple of other small bits here and there.

I should have done East Africa instead Acually, I failed that unit. I had a 49% in Geography, and have to get about 30% on the exam to pass the class. I think I got that about right. I did good on the maps we had to fill in.

Edit: at 12.29: Our librarian just came in, started yelling. There are a bunch of kids here with drinks, and crowding around computers, and blasting music, tc. In the computer lab, which is aginst rules. The libraian came in, said you shouldn't have pop! Turn down that music! This isn't an arcade! Do you want me to shut down the computer lab and save you the agro?!

 

Agro? What, is she trying to be hip? I bet shes a lesbian. The other librarian is. If she does shut the lab down at 1pm, I'll be back... whenever. Hopefully by mid july, at least.

They can use their own technology for the ship, so they won't need any help, and I have no idea what type of ship it is yet.

Inside the strange box thing they put in the nose are a lot of wires, a purple glowing object, and cylinders surrounding the purple glowing sphere that are attached to the wires.

*The zukes add several displays in the front panel, including speedometers, navigation computers, and sensor displays. They then add the lights for the ship in the back section, and add in 20 seats in the back.*

Ephorex: I teach several things, depending on what I'm needed for. Mostly, I teach advanced-level ESL, and I am now teaching advanced ESL composition. But I also teach college composition for regular American students. I taught a grammar class that was quite remedial once. Sometimes I do some work in applied linguistics, such as determining the writers of documents from handwriting, grammar, and lexical usage.

Grading papers is actually quite easy. For most, I just tear them into tiny bits, put them on a pedestal, set them on fire, and dance around them while waving a dead chicken over my head. All while laughing diabolically! Mwa ha ha ha!

And that's what I do to the good ones!

Well, that's not how I really do it, but the truth is quite boring. Oh well, we all need our fantasies to keep our sanity, right?

Ah Saturday morning breakfast at The Factory.  I'll have a well-cooked Western Omelet heavy on the cheddar cheese & bacon and with salsa on the side.  I'll also have a strong non-espresso coffee with just a little cream. 

 

Rough week at work: came back from sick leave to face: deadlines out the wazzoo; the problematic employee may have found a loophole w/ HR to avoid discipline and could make me look bad in front of my boss; the workaday crises were more intense this week; and a major portion of the agency said goodbye to a beloved employee in my chain of command.

 

This weekend could be interesting.  The in-laws are in town & my 5 y.o. daughter is coming home from her first ever sleep-over.

Zelgadis, I am retired from teaching post-secondary stuff so I know where you are coming from vis-a-vis finals. One of the nice things about IT, is that the final can be something that you can test on a computer. Usually a huge project of some kind.

With respect to advanced ESL, Zelgadis, what kind of native languages were you running into in Kentucky? I should expect a heavy Hispanic element, but what else was there?

Here in Northern Kentucky, there are quite a lot of native languages, actually. By far, the most plentiful are Spanish and Japanese. Spanish for obvious reasons, and Japanese because Toyota's North American HQ is about 10 miles from my home.

And we also have the big Toyota factory in Georgetown, KY along with multitudes of Japanese parts supply and manufacturing companies.

It's easy to get pulled over in Georgetown because all the police cars there are Toyota Camrys and some of them are unmarked. You never know you just blew by a policeman at 80 mph until you see the flashing lights!

Anyway, we also seem to have a lot of Eastern Europeans and North Africans here for reasons I can't explain...

Angry with school....

The June holidays are over here and today is back to school for everyone. Just recently, my school shifted back to its premises after 2 1/2 years of renovations so now everything is new. New tables, chairs, bigger classrooms, more fans, bigger hall. Everything was new and everyone was impressed. Then during assembly, the principle came up and she announced that the school will now follow the homeroom system. This means that the teachers have their own class and the students will have to move between classes. This really came as a surprise to all of us because my school used to follow the conventional classroom system where students remain the same class for the whole year and teachers move between classes. Almost every school in Singapore uses the classroom system. The homeroom system is almost exactly like the way school run in western countries. BUT beacuse of this new system, an extra 10 minutes is added to every lesson (1 peroid = 35 mins) the 10 mins is for us to move between classes and now beacause of the new extra time, we study for 45 minutes! School also finises MUCH more later at around 4pm this means that we study for almost 12 hours! (6am to 4pm) Over here, a typical secondary school finishes at about 1.30-2pm but finishing at 4pm! That's just crazy. And school does not only finishes there. Some teachers give extra remedial classes. There are also Co-caricular activities such as band, chior, library and so on. All in all, School can finish as late as 7pm by the time we get home, rest a little bit , have dinenr and complete our homework. It would be around 10pm. Bedtime.

 

That's not the only problem. During recess, there are not enough chairs and tables for everyone to seat. There is only enough to seat about 1/5 of the school's population. How are we going to have our food? Standing up or sitting down on the floor to eat...no way!

 

Because of the new system, we also have lockers. It's a good thing right? NO! We have to pay for them because the lockers are'nt provided by the Ministry Of Education because almost every school here follows the classroom system where lockers are not needed. Instead they are provided by a private company. Worse still, there are not enough lockers for everyone. But that's not the end. The lockers are small and flimsy too. How are we going to keep all our very thick textbooks? At the end of the day, the teachers asked all the classes if they like the new system and new school and the answer was an overwelminly no and that they prefer the old system and the old school. I doubt they will take heed of our complaints.

 

Over here, stress levels in schools are very high. Not because of bullies or anything but beacause of the workload and pressure given to the students. The education system here expects a lot from students. The teachers here are very strict too esp. abt homework and punctuality. A lot of them crack under the pressure and some even commit suicide. Over here, you get to see primary school kids carrying big bags that are almost as heavy as them to school. You feel sad for them.

 

Parents are starting to get very very angry with the government. A lot of them are complaining to the Ministry Of Education over the long school hours, big piles of homework, the high number of tests and exams, co-curicular activities that are suppose to help the students relax but instead only makes them much more stressed out and the fact that they hate to see their children under so much presssure and because they get to spend so little time with them beacsue of schools. (That's why Singapore has one of the lowest birth rates in the world. Parents simply do not want their chidlren to suffer) Recently, MOE banned any school activities from taking place on saturdays such as CCA's and lessons. This sems to help but that that's not enough. If you ask me, the school is starting to get on my nerves. I'm so going to ask my father to complain to the Education Ministry.

 

Sorry for writing such a long message. I'm just venting all my anger....
