Thanks!  I still consider SC4 to be the high point of city builders.  *must resist rant about the current state of the franchise*

Hiya, @alvinofdiaspar. Welcome to Simtropolis. *:)

That name sounds so familiar. Like a character in either an Issac Asimov or Arthur C Clarke book. I can't quite remember which author nor the book title, but the city was like a huge arcology type building and every twenty or thirty thousand years or so someone would get curious about what was outside and the Keeper of the Records would find instructions to let them know about secret doors and tunnels or something. (If I'm remembering it right at all.) *

Indeed. *:ohyes:

I've read several of his books and I remember Rendezvous with Rama and The Fountains of Paradise being particular favs of mine. Anyhow, I checked my bookshelf and found my version is Against the Fall of Night. It's a reprint of the original and contains these statements:

"PUBLISHER'S NOTE: Against the Fall of Night is a novelty even in the novel field of science-fiction publishing. Published in 1953 by Gnome Press, it earned critical acclaim and reader popularity. Then in 1956, Mr. Clarke published a completely rewritten version under the title of The City and the Stars, exercising his author's privilege to have "second thoughts" about his work. There has been no general agreement on which is the better book. Pyramid is proud to present the author's original inspiration in the form in which it first appeared."

So, I've just finished re-reading this one and I've really enjoyed it. (I could dig thru my boxes of books and see if I might have the later revised one too.)

I have both versions, but I prefer City and the Stars more - find it a bit more polished.  His short stories of course shines (The Star, History Lesson, Rescue Party); The Songs of the Distant Earth is also great.

Oh, yes! Isn't that the one with the only surviving record of humanity being a movie reel? (I won't say of what as you'll know and I won't spoil it for others.)

That title is very familiar, but I don't remember the plot atm. (I could Google it tho.)

Yes, that's the one!  Songs is one of his late works - probably my personal fav. beyond my namesake story.  There is even an album by Mike Oldfield inspired by it.

Hello! My name is Aury and I am new here in the forum (I guess you can already tell). I've only started playing SimCity 4 a few days ago, and I hope I'll improve in the game and find some good discussions here.

I am 21 years old and from Malaysia, and I like time-management games. I am also an avid fan of Sims 3. Nice to meet y'all. *:D

Hi Aury and welcome to Simtropolis! *:8)

You've made an excellent choice, and this is a wonderful community of many mayors from around the world. There is so much to learn and discover, since SC4 is more than just a game after all, but a creative canvas that collectively combines problem solving with imaginative potential. We hope you enjoy the forums too.

Ahhhhh, I can't agree more. I was looking for a game that'd satisfy my need to organise and budget balancing, and then I realised SC4 is more than just that, I could see small people living in my city and get shouted at by advisors *, it's a longgggg learning curve that I am willing to put up with. Games like these literally help my day-to-day life as a person.

Thanks for the welcome! *:D

Hi folks. It's been a long time since I played SC4, but I'm back after a decade+ of not playing. With a little help, I have NAM and the SC4 Launcher installed and did some tweaks to have the game run natively in 2560x1440. Now, to play!

If anyone has suggestions for a nice region with varied terrain (fictional is more than fine, I'm not interested yet in trying to recreate any real cities), or has suggestions for good building packs, that would be great. I can tell it's possible to download buildings (lots?) individually, but surely in the time this game has been out, there are packs of related/themed buildings to try out.

In any case, happy to be here folks!

Hi @Spudweiser and welcome to Simtropolis! *:8)

While not a buildings pack per se, there is so much choice with custom content which allows for so much freedom of choice. Feel free to post inside of Indiana Joe's thread (or any other you find) if you'd like any specific ideas of certain styles. Many folks here are so knowledgeable about buildings and themes.

We hope you enjoy the site and returning to SC4 again.
