Hi @I.M. Corbusier and welcome to Simtropolis! *:8)

I second the idea for using the installation Plugins to add items which are static and could be used between multiple sets of content.

Two examples of this for me are the Extra Cheats DLL and also the SC4Fix as well. These must go directly inside (no subfolders), since they don't load up otherwise. That isn't the case for regular content though (like BATs and lots), since DLL files are a special advanced library file. I like these loading all the time, since they're useful for the debug commands (from the cheats DLL) and also the added stability in which SC4Fix provides.

In terms of CAM and I don't use it personally, although it certainly could be worth looking into. There is an article here which clears up some of the common misconceptions about the mod. It certainly isn't essential to enjoy SC4 for what it is, and as Cori said it's just one of those options to explore if interested.

Anyway, see you around on the forums! *:thumb:
(Oh wait. You're already here!)

I'm a long time SimCity fan (I started with the SNES version and moved up from there) and although my favourite game remains SC2K I'm hoping to get back to SimCity 4 since its feels like its been an eternity. Having a community can help make a game more enjoyable and the amount of good things I've heard about Simtropolis convinced me to sign up.

Hi @snarkzilla and welcome to Simtropolis and back to SC4! *:)

You'll find absolutely how the community here makes it like an entirely enhanced game too. The custom content is what heightens the possibilities for what can be achieved, and it all depends on each of our own city-building tastes. Even though Maxis only released the single expansion pack (Rush Hour), everything here at ST and SC4Devotion certainly adds to what the base simulation provides as a platform to build upon (in many more ways than one).

We hope you enjoy the site!

Hello all, I'm Travis, I've been away from Cities Skylines for awhile, but I've recently come back to it.  I also enjoy other builder games as well.  I've browsed the forum before, but just joining now.

Hi all, Toni here. I got into SimCity from the Nintendo DS games, and have been playing for ~10 years. It's nice to see there's lots of people still playing SC4!

Hi @miDelta and welcome to the forums! *:8)

Absolutely, the SC4 community is still here and continues to thrive too, even rapidly approaching two decades since things all began. I see you've been a member for 9 years already, but it's never too late to make that very first post as you've now done.

Hello everybody! *:D I've been away from ST for 10 years (probably a little more), but nostalgia brings me back, hopefully for a while. The edgelord-y name of my account is not so nostalgic, but hey, we were all cringey teens haha. Hopefully I don't have equally cringey signature on this forum post too. *;)

I started playing SC4 around 2005/2006 and joined here in 2007. I even made a few contributions to the STEX (they weren't particularly good, 3D modeling is hard haha), and I think one of my creations was even included on one of those STEX DVDs. However, the old beige Dell desktop computer I used back then would struggle playing a heavily modded game, so my interest waned as high school went by. Freshman year of college I went to Galena, Illinois here in the US (beautiful small town, check it out) and I felt the urge to play again, but my brand-new laptop at the time also had problems playing the game.

And here I am now, thinking about playing SC4 seriously again, but probably just for a couple hours a week. I am a software engineer for a living, an avid reader, and I like to write fiction for myself (I have my own science fantasy setting that I love worldbuilding in).

Hiya, Andy. Welcome to Simtropolis. *:)

While we do have a section for SimCity 2013, it's not our most popular. * (Very few peeps play that version of SimCity.)

Hi @WeekendCityPlanner and welcome back to ST and SC4 too! *:8)

Something you'll soon realise (and have probably discovered already) is how the community is still alive and well. Also it's become a friendlier and more welcoming place too, and so whenever you've got time for city building, there's still lots of people who do post around the site. The great thing is how even though a decade or longer has elapsed since you were last around, there's been even more custom content made, and also still exciting discoveries which happen now and then too. The modding and designing aspects are like a whole new world to explore entirely, and admittedly this has become a prime focus for me nowadays, and I'm enjoying it more than ever.

Hope you enjoy the new ST as things will probably look a whole lot different now. Several new software versions and quite a few new faces too no doubt. And I had a quick check to see how Galena appears to be a very nice picturesque town indeed. *;)

(Also by the way, if ever you did decide to change your username, there is an option for that too. It's completely your choice though of course!)

Hi @~|Andy|~ and welcome to Simtropolis also. *:)

For SC13 and you might find how posting in the Region Games forum might be where other people can be found who still play that game online. I still think there'll be some who do, and so by posting there you'll probably more likely get others wanting to join and play as well.

Hello, I am a player from the Netherlands. I downloaded the NAM from here and I signed up because I think the game (SC4) will be a lot more fun with some mods. Speaking of mods, what should I get if I want to get the curved roads from the NAM to be a little bit more smooth, and secondly, what mods are good if I want some more variation in buildings?

Kind regards,

Dino

Hi Dino and welcome to Simtropolis. *:)

Most certainly I can vouch for the possibilities that mods and other custom content can expand on the possibilities SC4 provides.

In terms of the NAM for curved roads and streets, I'm not an expert at this in particular. I do know there are patterns one can use for creating different types of curves, and also starter pieces which can be placed down, before completing them to connect with the regular road/street tool.

Here's a pic from the NAM manual:

street-wrc-patterns.jpg

(From this section in the docs, although I noticed the link there is broken and just found this above image from searching.)

With custom content and recommended mods, I suggest this thread might be useful to get you started with some suggestions:

Also especially Cori's No Kickout (NKO) mod is a excellent mod which does naturally allow the potential of more variety in buildings. What this does is prevents lower wealth buildings from being automatically taken over by higher wealth, and yet still gives the finer control to let all RCI develop when desired (providing there is demand).

If this sounds interesting, I recommend having a read through this thread Cori and I made which explains it very well in depth:

Hi Cyclone, thanks for the reply. I think I might have to look at those starter pieces because that might do the trick. Thanks!

Hello Everyone,

I've been playing SC4 for over a decade off and on. This has been an exciting few months for me since I've joined here on this amazing site. After getting angry with the frequent CTD, I went looking for a solution. I stumbled upon an article about the NAM 37 release….Before that I never knew that you could mod the game, sad to say. But now,… so, I read all about NAM 37 and how I had the BAD version from you know where. I don't want to say their name after the phone conversation I had with one of there rep's. lol. So than I bought the game from Steam and went to town. After reinstalling a few times and fixing other mess ups, I have now put together just over 4gb of addons and its still boots up in 13 seconds now, was 58 seconds at 1.5gb, lol. I can't believe how this game has become one "bad ass" game for me. And I've learned so much in the process.  I've spent the last month creating a new region, after practicing with NAM, putting to use some of the new things I have. I plan on posting my work in due time. Before modding, my max pop was 450k. Now just hit 900k and growing. All thanks to you great folks hard at work making all the fantastic Tools, Mods and BAT's. Just simply amazing.  I can't say enough on how much I appreciate all what everyone has done for the game.

Kodos to all (I miss those granola bars)

Thank You Everyone
