Hi @Cavesim and welcome to Simtropolis. *:)

We hope you enjoy the site here. I see you've already posted a new topic on installing SC4 content which is great. Feel free to keep asking questions on the forums if unsure of anything, and no worries if feeling anything is too basic to ask. That's what we're all here for, and why this is such a wonderful community.

hello everyone

Hi there @jamiltonjunior2020 and welcome to Simtropolis! *:8)

I see you've got a blue Nissan rally car as your avatar. Good choice there, and the Santa hat fits well too (although it might need tying on at race speed). As of this post, I notice you're viewing the STEX which is an excellent place to begin downloading SC4 files especially. Enjoy the site!

Hello everyone... Cities Skylines player here,,, But I was bi9g fan of SC4 back in the day.  Now as then, my intention is to recreate Philadelphia PA... I always play sandbox, although I do try and make my cities profitable and desirable.  I am currently doing an 81 tile Philly map almost 1:1 scale... Things are lining up pretty good, something I just wasn't able to accomplish with SC4.  I think it's because CSL is not as grid rigid as SC4 is.  I'm amazed though that SC4 is still going strong... Truly a testament to the developers and modders.  Question... My map so far is only a network map, no simulation or zones yet... Should I start a city journal now, or wait until the city is officially satred...ie: my first zone is placed?

Hi @JackStraw and welcome to Simtropolis! *:)

That sounds really cool for replicating Philadelphia in your game, and how you've found Cities Skylines to give more flexibility in that way for the layout. I'm still a SC4 mayor here myself and particularly enjoy the modding side these days, but I've seen a few pictures of what CSL creators have made, and it does often look detailed and intricate.

Good question there.  (Not that there are any bad questions, but I suspect it's something many new members reading here might like to know too.)

My opinion is I feel it'd be best to do what you personally feel about this. Speaking as a staff member here, the only main rule we've got is that CJs are city-building related for their purpose. In terms of the presentation and scope, it's completely your choice with the theme of showcasing your cities. So if you'd like to do a preliminary overview of your design ideas and plans for re-creating Philadelphia and such, that certainly could be interesting and worth posting about.

There are many ways to design and structure a City Journal, and so go for whichever way you feel is best. *;)

Thank you Cyclone Boom  and CorinaMarie for the responses and welcomes... since you folks are administrators, I have another question...Like I stated, I played SC4 years ago and I did have an ST account... I remember my old username and I think I remember the email account, but I no longer have access to the email and I don't remember the password... Is it possible to get access to this old account without those credentials?  I put a search in for my old posts, and some are still there, buy i wanted to see my old CJ and there is no trace of it... If I remember correctly, didn't you guys do a purge some years ago?

That's something @CorinaMarie and I have done for several other members and we can do it for you too.

Since Cori is busy doing SC4 DataView modding right now, feel free to send me a PM and let me know what info you do recall. Along with the username, your email address goes a long way towards showing it's yours. I'm looking for just the name of that email since I understand you won't have access to receive messages there. Basically, we check for evidence that the old account is yours, then we can even merge the two accounts if you'd like. That would mean you'd keep your new account name and avatar here, but have the old member ID number and all the previous posts assigned to it.

Only if that's what you want though, and it's just a possible option which we can easily arrange.

There have been member account purges made through the years, and also recently we'd done that late last year. That was only for accounts which were identified to having never posted anything though, and so with yours having made posts and it'd likely still be intact and recoverable.

As for older CJs and it's possible how some were lost due to board software upgrades over the years. There was a platform change for an old blogs system I've heard about, and also data loss when there was a database implosion about 11 years ago (both before I joined ST). We make regular automated and manual backups these days though, so that's the safeguard to prevent anything like that from being an issue.

If you remember the title of the CJ or entries, I can run a few database queries and see if anything can be found there for it.

Hello, I'm new to this forum and shall therefore introduce myself :D
I've been playing SimCity for many-a-long-year with alternating periods of obsession and relative sanity. It's been so long that I may be mis-remembering some of what follows (especially as I am now officially 'old').

I originally had a really old SimCity (which I think might even be a version before SC2000?) which I had on a SNES cartridge I think? Only grid-like cities were possible because you could only place a fixed-size large-ish block of zone at a time rather than choosing how many squares to fill and it appeared as a big outlined square/rectangle with R, C, or I in the centre. I wasn't very good at it, my nuclear plants kept rendering vast areas useless for a thousand years. I seem to remember one of the disasters involved Godzilla!

I then had SimCity UK version on DVD which is where I became obsessed as the building styles were very familiar to me, being English (though I lamented the lack of Japanese B-movie giant lizards in it). I kept my old XP desktop running way past it's sell-by date just so I could continue playing it. (said PC was affectionately named 'Frankenstein' or 'Trigger's Broom' - only other English people will probably get the second reference :D ) I lurked in the SC3000.com and other forums, printing off reams and reams of tips and tricks and using up large amounts of graph paper and coloured pens. As a result I was able to build quite a few cities (even without cheating) where I ended up having to virtually eliminate all rivers/sea and level the entire terrain in order to fit in all the astronomical value skyscrapers :D
Once the fever had died down a bit I made a few fairly pretty cities too.

'Frankenstein' unfortunately died beyond resurrection last year and my SCUK DVD wouldn't work on it's replacement due to MS dropping the DRAM thing in Win 10. I'm currently using SimCity 3000 Unlimited from GOG on a spanking-new Win 10 laptop. I'm really interested in the BAT feature and have fiddled about with it a bit but am finding it difficult to get my head round. I would like to have a go at tinkering with the existing standard buildings in the game but they don't appear in the list? I'd also like to be able to transfer some of the English style buildings/tiles from my copy of SCUK so I've posted a couple of questions in the SC3000 sub-forum - if anyone thinks they might be able to help, I'd be glad to hear from you :)
Cheers! N.M.

Hiya, @NightMayor. Welcome to Simtropolis. *:)

That prior SimCity with the R, C, and I in the middle of them was the very first. It's now known as SimCity Classic and there is a freeware version of it called Micropolis, iirc. For your SC3000 questions, post away in the forum you mentioned and hopefully some peeps will know the answers. It is a bit slow in there, but usually someone strolls along information.

Hi @NightMayor and welcome to Simtropolis! *:8)

It sounds like you've had quite the mayoral adventure over the years, and what's wonderful about city-builders is they're so intricately creative.

While I personally didn't get into the predecessors to SC4 in the SimCity series, it's cool how there's nostalgia value in how they can still be played today. Thanks to sites like GOG as you've found, there's many games on there which must be similar. It is great when they are possible to run on modern systems, and still be timeless classics which are fun. With the community here at ST and we've already had @biff upload a SC2K file just yesterday too.

With people like yourself, maybe there could soon be a similar revival to when this happened...

Thank you for the Welcomes
Excellent! I like that statistic!
I actually quite like the cartoon-like quality of the graphics in SC3000 and now that I have to put on reading glasses to just play at all, I find them a bit easier to see *

Very much enjoying the eye-candy that is SimCity 4 though.
Ha - I might have to have a go at SC2000 too just to fill in that 'missing link' *:D

Hi all,

SimCity started for me with SC 2000 almost 20 years ago. I loved it.  I then bought the SC4 package on CD rom (twin discs) which corrupted after years of use.

I am now making a return to the Deluxe Edition of SC4 (with Rush Hour) on a cheap laptop via the Steam Platform.

Over the last 12 years, I've been playing PvP based games online and quite frankly I've had enough of logging in to years of work destroyed by another online player only to have to rebuild it all again.  So the interest I previously had in 'Single player gaming' was slowly returning and the Steam discount marked my return.  I definitely like the updates to the game ... Elevated railways, 1-way roads to name only two, but the BIG thing is the developers kept the game basically unchanged.

I've long gone by the motto, "the community makes the game" and so I'm looking forward to discussing designs and disasters with the community here.

Regards

Valk
