Hi guys,

I am just coming back to SimCity4 after a number of years. I’ve never used mods, but keen to learn. I saw that the NAM mod wouldn’t work with copies of the game downloaded from Origin. I have a copy bought and downloaded from Steam. Does anybody know if I will have any issues installing and using it?

Thanks in advance.

There are no specific problems using any version of SC4, provided it’s had the official EP1 patch applied. Steam sell a pre-patched copy, it’s only Origin that borked this, not only supplying the only unpatched version of SC4 you can buy, but making it unpatchable in the process.

Head over to my Lot and Mod Shack to keep abreast of my latest developments.

Do you like custom textures, but don't like all the work involved creating them?, take a look at the Texture Automation options here. Change the look and feel of your transit networks, with the minimum of effort, for example customised versions of my Sidewalk NAM (SWN) and Terrain Grass NAM (TGN) mods, and much more besides.

New to the NAM? Check out my tutorials on YouTube. Latest upload: How to: RHW - MHO Roundabout Interchanges. (Nov 25).

p.s. - I'm MGB over on SC4D and a member of the NAM team.

Thanks.

I am still having some problems. I have tried watching youtube tutorials to help.

I just can't work out how to install the 4gb patch. The only instructions in the Read First folder just say install 4gb patch. When I double click on it, it just takes me to tha NAM folder. I have installed Java. Is there anything else I need to do first?

thanks.

Hi!

With the 4GB patch you need to patch the main game exe, the SimCity4.exe, which can be found in the main install folder. It depends on which version you have. When you launch the 4GB patch you need to browse and locate the main SimCity4.exe and execute the patch on it.

Thanks for offering support.

I'm actually struggling to find the SimCity4.exe. Would it be located in Program Files? I have bought and installed a copy from Steam.
I know these are really basic questions, but it is my first time doing this and just have no idea.

Try to run an overall search for the simcity4.exe on your system drive. I don't know where steam would put the install folder if the game, but I think it was written down somewhere.

Hi,

Yes, that's what I had to do. I'm not sure why I couldn't find it manually.

I think I am ow up and running. :)
Thank you.

Anyone else have this problem with the overpass portion of the Japanese Facelift Mod as of NAM39?

The texturing has disappeared from the center, on the corner piece only though..

IIRC, the base version of the 2x2 90° curve for Avenues did receive revamped textures with improved geometry recently.  Those improvements got rid of the random paved area that's on the no-wealth version.  If the JPN Facelift Mod used the ground-level no-wealth textures on its models instead of separate custom elevated textures (as the NAM's viaducts do, in both the newer draggable form and the older puzzle piece form), then that's why things have now changed there.

In general, old third-party cosmetic mods aren't something for which we can officially provide support (and in this case, it's an old third-party cosmetic mod for what's bordering on becoming an obsolete/"legacy" NAM feature, that I suspect many people only use because it supports the JPN Facelift Mod), though there's a couple of relatively easy ways to fix this.  I'm not at my SC4 computer at the moment, but either providing a legacy texture .dat or porting those old textures to a new IID and changing the JPN Facelift Mod models to reference it are possible solutions.

If you've installed the latest version of my TGN mod (updated late last year), you should see the following:

    TGN_Ave90Curves.jpg.eeae284c1ca367117fe411467f89002e.jpg

Tarkus is quite correct, that the textures they use are the "ground-based" ones, but I suspect that was the point, to get the Alpha Channel for adding/showing a custom sidewalk plane. In any case I had too replaced these textures at some point, mine don't use transparency for the no-wealth/zoning medians. A similarly custom texture exists for the Draggable variants as part of my SWN Mod. That contains a full-sidewalk median, you could edit the S3Ds to give it this ID instead, but you'd have to remove the diffuse/overlay texture as this one doesn't need darkening. It'll also mean the models no longer display the installed sidewalk, instead they'd be reliant on having a specific customised (sidewalk baked-in) texture.

Guys, I have some little problem here.

I installed the LHS version of NAM 39, but my avenue intersection shows otherwise. I tested the traffic and they are driving on left side.

    During installation, under

    1. Core, I ticked z_NAM_controller_LHD

    7. Texture, I ticked EU_Left Side....

In my folder, I did saw "z_NAM Controller_LHD" folder and under "7_Texture and Drive Side Support" folder I saw a subfolder named "EU_LeftSide“.

    Am I miss out anything?

See the following post, this one was reported to us a while ago:

I attached an interim fix you can use, it should be fixed up in NAM 40.

Oh no kidding, I actually did install that, must be loading order issue on my part, apologies and thank you for pointing this out. The median in the screenshot looks good I think.

I'm trying to build my first RHW and I can't get any of the starter pieces to work.  I've watched several videos trying to figure this out but to no avail.  I've tried RHW6S and C and RHW8S and C using the RHW2 to connect pieces, but they wont connect to the starters no matter what I do.  NWM roads and avenues work with no problems.   Thanks in advance.

There's two possibilities: either you're using the Fillers instead of the Starters by mistake, or (more likely) you don't have the RUL2 code for the RHW installed.  If you're by chance using one of the "smaller" versions of the NAM Controller that doesn't require the 4GB Patch that I've shared around these parts, the reason it's smaller is because there's no RHW RUL2 code in it.

I went back and looked at my posts from when I was having trouble installing NAM 39 and I am indeed using the "lite" version.  I'll have to go through the full installation again and see if I can get it to work.

    Thanks

    -Mark

Edit:  Went through the install again with the full installer and I ran into the same thing I did last time, the 4GB patch just doesn't want to work for me.   I run it and it says batch file successfully installed (or something to that effect), but it doesn't seem to work.

Which file are you attempting to patch with the 4GB Patch?  Pick up the file attached below, unzip it, and run the "SimCity4_4GB_Patch_V3.bat" file.  I've repackaged it a little (with the NTCore 4GB Patch directly in there) to prevent any issues caused by attempting to run the batch file in the wrong spot.

    Holy crap it worked!

Thank you for your patience, I've been away for 10 years and I keep getting stuck on things that used to be a breeze.   I try not flood the place with dumb questions that have been answered elsewhere, but time (and Origin) have made finding accurate, up to date information extremely difficult.

    Thanks again

I've been trying out the RHW stuff ang on my first interchange and it seems I've done something wrong...603da9bb5d4eb_TechPort-May.4041614653526.jpg.33b05fb41cb9a666660aa9389d892246.jpg

Whenever I try to put RHW2 lanes under everything this is what I end up with.   The picture is just for illustrative purposes, ideally I'd like for that ramp to pass under diagonally centered on the apex of the curve of the 2 ramps above it.  I've never spent so much time on so few tiles, I'm really hoping this is a simple fix.

A couple of things to note regarding the FLEXFly flyovers that might be of use for you:

    • None of the FLEXFly items support crossings involving L0 (ground-level) RHW-2.  The reason for this is that it was seen as a lesser-used setup, and being that it's the base network, by virtue of not supporting it, it allowed us to cut the RUL2 code for the whole V2 FLEXFly system down to about 104,000 lines.  It would have been at least double that had L0 RHW-2 support been included (since every other setup would have had to override the L0 RHW-2 setup).
    • It is not possible (at least at present) to overlap one FLEXFly over another FLEXFly.  There's been discussion about adding support for that, but it's going to be a pretty hefty and complex chunk of RUL2 code, plus a lot of IID scheme planning.
    • Diagonal crossings over/under FLEXFly items are not presently possible, either.  Again, support for that has been discussed, but it's going to require a couple hundred thousand lines of RUL2 code, and more IID scheme planning.  You should be able to get diagonals under/over base RHW stretches in the vicinity of FLEXFly items, but that's the closest you're going to be able to get at present.
