Lot Editor and Plug-in Manager Forum Archive 2008

This thread contains all of the stray topics created in 2008 in the Lot Editor and Plug-in Manager forum. This thread serves to condense those topics into one topic before merging into the new SC4 BAT & Lot Workshop forum.

However, all of the posts from the original threads are merged chronologically, which means that if two threads were posted in during the same time span, their posts will be mixed together, making it harder to read. To help with this, the title of original thread has been edited into the original first post of each thread.

Remember that you can use Ctrl+F to search through your current page.

Controling developable plugins

Hi,

I would like to see my developable plugins develop only instead of the regular RCI buildings that came with the game.  Is there a way to control the game built maxis buildings and stop them from growing and only grow the particular buildings (BAT growable buildings that are plugins) that I want in my city?

Creating an airfield

I am trying to create an airport lot in the lot editor and I was wondering how to make the ends look like they should on the actual runway. If anyone knows how to do this or if there is any tutorial about this, please respond.

Thank you. 1.gif

Do you have an airport pack? If not I suggest downloading the RMIP-2 by Voltaire.

https://www.simtropolis.com/stex/details.cfm?id=15604&v=1

With that you won't need to make anything in the LE. I would suggest that if your trying to make a realistic airport. Check out "Show us your airport" in the city building forum to see example.

BTW how do you add links in a message and make them say something else

When you want to insert a link, highlight the words that you want the link to be and click insert link.

Like if you wanted to have a link be the word "here", you would highlight "here", click on insert link, put in the url, and insert the link. This is the best way I can explain this. Hope this helps. 19.gif

Try re-fitting your LOD's. The prop may be there, but way off to the side..

Notice what lot you edited, thats where the lot will appear in the game. If you edited a § R or a commercial lot or whatever. They will just grow. IF you edited a landmark, they will be i nthe landmarks folder in the game.

The biggest thing you want to worry about is if the lot file is in the plugins folder. (C:\Documents and Settings\My Documents\Simcity 4\Plugins)

Lot Editor Crash when opening a lot

Hello, I made some industry filler lots, and saved them. But when I try to open them again in lot editor, it just crashes with that lot editor has encounted a problem crap. I would like to know why and has this happened to any one else. It happens to quite a few lots that I modify and save as a different name. Also, if you change the name of a lot in windows and then try to load it on lot editor, is has the old name still, how can this be fixed?

One last thing, is there a way to make lot editor open from another folder instead of the plugins folder, so that when you want to edit a lot, you put it in that folder then open LE, therefore you won't have to wait ages while it loads all the plugins.

Thanks for your help. Grall

Changed rural buildings to residential but still show up as rural in LE

I recently downloaded some rural buildings like "Waldau Farm" and "Bremen Farm" etc. However I don't want these buildings on farm lots, I want to use them as residential buildings instead. So I opened them up with SC4Tool and changed all the properties I could find from rural to residential.
Now when I open up the lot Editor they still show up as rural buildings. They won't show up in the residential buildings menu at all, so I can't actually create a residential lot and plonk them down on it.
What is it that I'm missing?

You need to find the models of these buildings in Kwakelaar's Mega Prop packs and make new descriptors for them in Plugin Manager.

Make this BAT into a growable farm?

Hi,

I've created this little model  (obviously it's the red building on the right that is mine and not the glass one) that is currently residing in my landmarks menu, but I'd really like to have it grow as an agricultural farm if possible.

Can somebody offere me instructions or a tut on how to accomplish this?

Thanks,

And here's an image of it's sister building which is made of wood:

Lot Editor question

Hey everyone! First off, how do you use the lot editor? How do you change lots and then save the changes? I have also seen a lot of people make landmarks and plopable versions of low density residential houses. How do I do that? Any help is appreciated.

How not to replace lots?

So, I'm using an aircraft prop pack to add planes (i.e. A380) to the game for my airports. I am a novice at the lot editor and don't really know how to use it. I have all of the lots saved and backed up in a separate folder, waiting to turn them into a lot (plopable). The issue is that whenever I go into lot editor the Save As button is shaded grew, disallowing me to save, without overwriting a building. Please help me!

The lot editor is just what it sounds like, a lot EDITOR. If you want to create a NEW lot, just use a different building, then save it with a different name.

This should fix the shaded save as button.

There are certain lots that you can't use Save As on. These include the airports and seaports. The reason for this is that there is additional functionality needed to create extra copies of these items, which lot Editor cannot achieve.

If you want to keep the original airport file as a backup, then copy it to another folder outside your SC4 folders to keep it safe, then modify the copy that is still in your plugin folders.

But you can't have two of those without some quite detailed extra modding.

The Lot Editor also comes with its own manual, which you can normally find by going to Start>Programs>Maxis>SimCity 4>Lot Editor Manual, or in your C:\Program Files\Maxis\SimCity 4 folder. It explains all the buttons and boxes and there are some handy features explained.

I hope this helps.
