Lot Editor and Plug-in Manager Forum Archive 2012

This thread contains all of the stray topics created in 2012 in the Lot Editor and Plug-in Manager forum. This thread serves to condense those topics into one topic before merging into the new SC4 BAT & Lot Workshop forum.

However, all of the posts from the original threads are merged chronologically, which means that if two threads were posted in during the same time span, their posts will be mixed together, making it harder to read. :read: To teach how to fish rather than giving the fish in the basket ... in the installation folder of the Lot editor (usually the same as Simcity) is a nice user's manual ... much information that even most users do not know.

I advise reading helpful.

Building not showing

I'm frustrating with download MOD thing. I couldn't find good instruction to start a mod around in this site.

When I download LOT mods and put it in Sim City 4 file and everything appear in Sim City 4 when I build it and only land showing but Building is not showing.. Building is missing. I'm trying different method of put files in but it still not working. Can anyone put a simple instruction how to start download LOT mod and where files to put. I don't have error when explore window. Can anyone help me. I'm all new with this downloading stuff.

TE Editor Not Working

I am trying to make a transit switch for a 3x1 lot but only the top tile will work when i drag and drop my TE files. Here is a picture of my problem:

See I can place a el rail "H" onto the top tile but not the other two tiles. I can place any network on the top but on the bottom when i click on "A" for example and drag and drop onto the bottom tile it wont work. That applies for right clicking the bottom tile as well. Can any one help?

I can't find SC4 Lot Editor

Hi !

 

I'm trying to download SC4 Lot editor, but I can't find it !! All the links to the official website simcity.ea.com doesn't exist now ! It became a link to a Facebook page ! o.O There is a new website http://www.ea.com/fr/simcity-4 without any plugin or software for the game ! :cry: Someone could give me the link to dowload the Lot Editor please ? I really need that for a CJ project...

Its available at sc4devotion.com. Go to the website and login or register, then on the left side of the page there will be a EA support link. Click it and then click "I accept the terms" under the license agreement. The lot editor is the first file on the page. Fixing Waterfront Lots

I have always had a ton of problems building shipyards, docks, wharves, anything like that because the lot sinks the land...okay fine, so I level all the waterfront land to that elevation. Then I place the next lot and it sinks the land down further...the next lot the sinks into water...it seems there is no fixed elevation these pieces want to sit at. What am I doing wrong? Can I fix anything in Lot Editor to prevent this?

Does the problem happen on any lot, or just on this one? Are the two bottom tiles marked as "land" tiles? Maybe that's the problem?

I'll give it a shot.. If you are downloading to Sim City 4 Deluxe, find where your downloading to... such as the desktop ... or wherever you have your downloads sent.. open the "zip" file and read the readme.txt or .doc.. most times files need to be put in the directory... /My Documents/SimCity4/Plugins directory or "folder". If you are downloading buildings for Cities XL 2012... the file should have an extension called .pak .. these files need to put into directory /CitiesXL2012/Pak directory... hope that helps... if you need any more assistance don't hesitate to ask...

Yes, but that doesn't solve the problem of the individual lots reengineering the land themselves. Even after I use that tool, when I plop these seaport lots, they sink the land to varying degrees. Really, no one else has this problem?

Ok, first of all I'm glad the problem is solved. :)

Secondly, your reply makes me wonder... I wonder why a tile that's defined as "land" on the one hand and transit-enabling features on the other hand would exclude each other. :???: Maybe it would have to be done the other way around. In any case, it's interesting to know. I wasn't aware of that limitation.

Oh, and I'll leave the thread open. Maybe there are others who have problems with the TE, so they'll be able to bring this thread up with their problem. We shall see.

Changing the growth stage.

I recently made a BAT, that I was using in lot editor, when I replaced the building, lot editor automatically changed the growth stage to 4 when it was 2 before I replaced the building. How do I stop lot editor from changing it?

Enlarge the size of the lot. The larger the building, the higher the state. The smaller the lot, the higher the stage.

LE showing flora prop all crazy depending on zoom

Hey, not sure where to find the answer for this but I'm sure it has happened to others.

I've got a flora prop I rendered in BAT, popped in and out of PIM, and then wanted to use it in LE, but when I zoom in, the prop suddenly shows up as random jagged building edges, instead of the flora prop. It looks like the correct prop in the farthest out zoom, but then turns into something else. In PIM, the prop looks fine in all directions and at all zooms. What would cause this? I don't think its a rendering issue, and I rendered the prop twice just to be sure. I've never had a LE issue before so I'm not sure what is to be done. Anybody know the answer? Thanks:)

plugin manager question

How do you change the directory for models in this thing? I made a seperate folder for the sc4model files so i can try and keep my folder a bit more organized... but i cant seem to figure out how to change sc4 plugin manager from the default (which is just the plugin folder) any help would be appreciated.

This is not possible. All models that you wish to import into the game must be placed loose in My Documents\SimCity 4\Plugins or PIM will not load them. After you make your descriptors for them, you can re-organize as you see fit. Once you've made a ploppable lot using the descriptors (the files ending in .SC4DESC), you can delete the descriptors because they are merged into the lot. This is important because if you change the properties of the lot, but leave the original descriptor in the same folder, the game may load the original building data from the loose descriptor rather than the new data you've altered in the lot. This will depend on how the files are named. If there are two building exemplars (i.e., descriptors) with the same TGI numbers, the game will load data found in the last file to be found alphabetically in a folder.

See this topic by the renowned BarbyW. You might have to log in to see it. The tutorial addresses growable lots, but the concept of eliminating unnecessary .SC4DESC files applies to all lots. Fewer files for the game to sort out equals better performance.

I know you prefer SC4Tool, but don't be afraid to learn

EDIT: Just found this tutorial among my gazillion SimCity4 bookmarks. Thought it might come in handy for you and others new to lot making.

SC4 PiM Runtime Error

Most of the time, SC4 Plugin Manager works fine for me, but recently a Runtime Error has been showing up. Here is the description:

I have re-downloaded the supposedly "fixed Unicode" version, but it has not helped. I am running Windows 7.

On this thread:

jason leo is able to work around the error by using XP. I am not sure how to run this program in XP. Any help would be appreciated.

I suspect you need the C++ Runtime library that was current for XP. Try setting the program to run under the XP decor. It is a setting you can make in the properties of the .exe.
