2 questions about SC3KU

I have 1 saved city were the date is 1904. Is there a cheat to turn on the airport button?

2nd question.  On one of my citys no mater what I do the air and sea ports will not build (the rest of the city builds fine). Water depth is set right for the sea port to build. They are zoned, powered and water pipes layed. But the city is bone dry. I can't get 1 drop of water to flow.  The desaltification plants are at the waters edge and the water pumps are right behind the desaltification plants. Everything is powered, pipes layed but no water flows. I am stumped. If need be I can screen capture any part of the city and post it.

The list of SC3 cheat codes is here

https://community.simtropolis.com/clubs/26-city-builders-website/cb-documents/10-SimCity-3/9-sc3-cheat-codes

But it doesn't look like there is one to change the date

As for your seaport it seems they won't develop unless the conditions are right, have a read of this document it should help

EDIT:

Quote

To build a structure such as a subway or bus stop before it is invented, just press the keyboard shortcut for the item and place it in that manner. For example, to build a bus stop in 1900, press ALT + R.

For a complete list of keyboard shortcuts, consult the Reference Card that came with your copy of SimCity 3000.

The SC3 reference card is here

https://community.simtropolis.com/clubs/26-city-builders-website/cbex/download?path=simcity3un_reference_card.zip

You don't need an account to download it or the manual

Hiya, Steve.

I'm doing the moderator thing. Since this thread and your other one aren't about SC4, I'm going to move them to the City-Building Games forum so they will be nestled in among our other SimCity 3000 threads. I'll mention some of the recent posters in SC3k threads in my post here so they might get beeped and come take a look.

Catty thanks for the info. But like I said, the sea port and airport aren't building because there is no water. The city is dry as a bone, not a drop of water is flowing.  I can't figure that out.

SC3K takes account for saltwater and freshwater (which is something that was scrapped in later games). You may need to use the desalination plant to convert your water into freshwater.

I think I might know why your water pumps aren't working. Did you place them by the ocean? SC3k has both salt water and fresh water. To pump salty ocean water, you'll need a desalination plant instead of water pumps. If I remember correctly, the desalination plant unlocks in 1960.

I've actually had issues with water in SC3k as well, but I haven't played it for a while so I can't remember how I solved them.

Could you post a screenshot of your water system here? That could help immensely.

I solved the water problem. this city is an island and I filled an area to the edge thinking there would still be water beyond the edge. It didn't work. I moved the water works to a different site next to the sea. now I have water and the airport and sea port are built up.

Unlike SC4 where you could chuck your garbage off the edge into the void or set up a water pump to get water from the void without worrying too much about water contamination, SC3 cities are completely standalone you do have some game generated cities surrounding your city, but you can't access them except to do deals for water, power, etc

That I didn't know that about SC3KU.  I would be playing SC4K but this backup laptop doesn't have the cpu power or enough graphics to run the newer games. I can't even keep SC3KU running paused in the background and open Firefox to look up something. With the 2 prog's open Win 7 slows to a snails pace.  I can't wait until I get the money to get my Dell laptop out of pawn.  The Dell came with oem OS Win 8.1.

I did use something for SC3 to help with memory .... I'm having a senior moment cos I can't remember the name of it ... but it allows games that were designed for 2gb of memory to use another 2gb of virtual memory as well, its in the NAM

    ....

got it, its called the 4gb patch and you can get it from the NAM or here

I just remembered how to get around the cpu speed and graphics limitations of running Firfox and SC3KU on the backup

laptop at the same time.  SC3KU is running on the laptop right now. I am typing this post right now on my ZTE Android tablet.

We now have a way to change the year portion of the date. (It requires using a Hex Editor with the saved city file.) See here.

I think the hotkeys should still work despite the year limitations. However if the Airport zone develops after being zoned is another question altogether. Bus stops and highways have been proved to work, so why not airports?

You may want to check the SC3K Reference/Manual which can be found in the game files normally
