Construct and present an urban complex area
Season 3 - Challenge #02 - Extended (14 days)

All cities have urban features which provide services, entertainment and make them unique. Large, small, high, or below -- there are various types which can vary in size and appearance, but each have their own vital function. This may be a collection of buildings, like in a retail park, or group of apartments / offices. Or even a large purpose-built complex like a university campus, or a sports stadium with parking facilities.

For this challenge, we're looking for you to construct one of these areas, and present it in an image. Your image can show the whole area, or just focus on a specific part. There are lots of possibilities here, so it's really up to you what you choose to build. It just must contain a group of urban structures, which are related in some way. For example, any combination of buildings or urban development, that make up the feature.

See the Possible Ideas section below for a few examples.
 

This is an  Extended  challenge running for 14 days.

 

Submission Requirements

1. Your image must be taken showing multiple urban structures with a shared purpose.
    
2. You may use any city-building game -- including SimCity 4, Cities: Skylines, SimCity (2013), and CitiesXL / XXL.
    
3. Please submit only one image for this challenge.
    
4. For the purpose of voting, please check your image has a full title & description.
    
5. To qualify for entry, please ensure your image is uploaded to the submissions category, and complies with these requirements.

 

Possible Ideas

Here are a few ideas to get you started, just giving examples of ways to go about this challenge:

Note: The following is not a complete list, or a requirement:

• Residential estate (houses, apartments or skyscrapers)
• Commercial outlet (shops, offices or businesses)
• Industrial park (factories, production or storage)
• Construction zones
• Government owned complex
• Emergency services
• Hospital / healthcare services
• Power station
• Water treatment complex
• Waste disposal / landfill / recycling
• University / college campus
• Recreation park
• Stadium
• Race track
• Transportation services (air, road, rail or sea)
• Car park

 

New Leaderboard System 

As mentioned in the announcement topic, this season will be using a brand new leaderboard system.

Each challenge will award points to all participants, based on your placing. The higher the position you come, the more points you'll receive. It also gives an extra incentive to take part, even if you don't reach the podium. Then at the end of the season, prizes will be awarded based on your overall standing.

The winners will be the top 3 ranked images after an 8 day voting period. Reputation prizes will be awarded based on the number of entries, and the overall average rating. See this topic for more info.

For this  Extended  challenge, rep prizes will be given for the top 3 placed entries, along with points for the "Overall" and "Weekly & Extended" leaderboards.

Finally! The results from the 2nd challenge...

There were 22 entries in total, which led to a very competitive and close run race for places and points.

As usual, they have been calculated using the BARS System, which uses the album voting data to rank images, and then assigns rep and Leaderboard points accordingly.

And yes, if you're wondering, virtually everything you see had to be custom lotted and an entire custom texture set was created to match those of Athens. And to find enough buildings that perfectly matched Athenian architecture.. You don't wanna know how long all of that took.."

I still consider my 22ndth placed, less than 2 point avg. voted, Transpo-Nexus Civic Center a masterpiece of multimedia graphic art.  Its not a Da Vinci or a Michelangelo, but I think it rates somewhere in the Salvador Dali range.  So l'll consider '22' a surreal result and happily continue participating, cause I'm really enjoying seeing the amazing works being done by everybody, and more so.   Next Challenge?  Bring It!
