Does anyone have a backup of the neo-eclectic homes?

It seems like Gutatto removed them from the workshop.

I would like to fix the lights and darken the textures a little bit.

Looks as if you got covered and don't need my backups :thumb:.

That's a bit messed up, why not act as an intermediary for others to do the fixing-up work for you :(

I don't understand why people remove stuff.

Guttato has moved on from C:S (he's been playing L4D2, CS:GO and GTA V lately), and I can only guess he was tired of having all those messages that urge him to fix his houses pop up in his mailbox. Removing assets is not an ideal solution, but certainly understandable. I don't think there's a different way to stop messages from a specific game on Steam.

Actually, there's quite a few modders who have removed assets, for a variety of reasons. It gets particularly annoying when people remove popular props. One example was a bush that had been used in lots of park assets.

I guess it's human psychology that gets into play here. If you have to go around and ask others to fix stuff for you, you are seen as in need of a favor. That often ends in half-hearted commitments that linger for ages. It's better when people offer their help, as then it's a sign there is real interest. I assume that hasn't happened here.

By the way, no idea if it's possible, but if anyone touches these, is it possible to remove those rigid white baseplates? It's not strictly necessary, but the houses need perfectly flat ground at the moment, and that white color is a stark contrast to some texture sets.

I should still have them installed locally, so if anyone needs them, I could create a zip with all the houses (provided they haven't been removed locally because they were removed from the Workshop).

On a related note, has the original Road Anarchy mod been pulled from the Workshop as well? I haven't unsubbed from it, but it has vanished from both Workshop and in-game.
I wouldn't really mind that much (as Sharp Angles mod offers much of the same and more), but it was the only mod that I know of that allowed you to plop parks and other stuff directly underneath elevated roads/tracks and bridges (it removed any kind of collision detection). Sharp Angles cannot do that for some reason, as it seems to not have removed the collision detection between objects and roads in the same way as the original Anarchy mod did. So am I missing something here, or does anyone know a mod that allows me to do the same as the original Anarchy mod (NoPillars Overlap mode is not an option, as it f's up the zoning block layout and causes trees to show up at random places)

If you copied those to your local "user" directory, they are safe. The copies from your local "workshop" folder will get automatically removed.

Thank you for letting everyone know. I saw this before I started Steam, so they didn't get removed yet. I was able to copy them to my local folder before they did. I have them if anyone needs them.

On a related note, are there any other cool assets that got removed that anyone has backed up?

Well there is an option to turn off alerts now but using the unsubscribe checkbox.

Yeah, backing up Workshop content sounds like good practice indeed (since apparently removing something from the Workshop means auto-deleting the mod/asset from every subscriber's computer as well - quite ridiculous, imo.)
Thankfully I just remember that just a few weeks ago I made a full back-up of my assets folder because I had to reinstall my laptop, so I should still have the Neo-Eclectic Houses and Road Anarchy in my possession. Now the daunting task is to track them down in a collection of almost 1000 sub-folders (one for each subscription), without knowing the Workshop ID of those particular assets...

Fortunately, most asset creators (though not all) give meaningful names. In Guttato's case, just search for "neo-eclectic", and they all pop up. Even "neo" alone gives only very few additional hits.

Regarding mods, I didn't really back much up, as they often tend to break from a game update.

Windows Search, the most under-used Windows feature on my laptop ;) Thanks for the tip, that'll most definitely speed up things tremendously!

Oh, and as for the mods, it's only useful because the back-up is about three or four weeks old, so most mods will still be the current version. But I'm only going to look for Road Anarchy, because I need a mod that allows me to place objects literally anywhere (including under bridges/elevated tracks), and afaik. Road Anarchy is the only one offering the full package (NoPillars has the zoning block issue which makes it a no-no for this purpose, and Sharp Junction Angles isn't as feature-complete when it comes to removing collision detection).

As an aside, my asset backups are liberated from their folders. If you search for "*.crp", you can just copy all assets at once, without folders (the search result), to any place you like.

I'm also happy that the local asset folder supports custom subfolders.

Meaning you can structure local assets manually in any way you want, like:
/assets/
...../Residential/
........../Brooklyn/
........../NeoEclectic/
...../Commercial/
........../Fastfood/
........../BoxShops/
etc.
That is pretty awesome!

The only thing is: once you move an asset from the Workshop folder to the local folder, it'll loose its connection with the Workshop, right (meaning you won't receive updates)?
If so, how do you determine for yourself what assets/mods to copy to the local folder, and which ones to keep in the Workshop folder? At the moment I have a few assets copied to the local folder, some Workshop stuff to which I made some changes, some prop-based assets I created myself, and a few that were never, or no longer, available in the Workshop (like the massive Vienna Dampf Kraftwerk power plant and a High Density Commercial version of Darf's Lyric Theatre).

Yup, you can use such a folder structure. The items will show up in the asset editor like normal, but if you save it under the same name, it will always be saved to the root "Asset" folder (which means you will have two assets), and you have to move the new file by hand.

Losing the connection to the workshop is kind of the idea behind this. Nobody can just remove this file anymore, like for example that SoJiro power plant you mentioned.

As for reasons why I do it, it's pretty much the same you mentioned. I may do this more extensively if I get a larger SSD (my "user" directory is on the SSD, the "workshop" folder on a normal HD).

If anyone still wants to use the Neo Eclectic Houses (or wants to edit them), you can download them here (can someone confirm this is working, I usually don;t share cloud hosted files publicly).

As long as you haven't unsubbed from the deleted items, they should still be on your PC even if they're gone from the workshop. Those old World Trade Center buildings - the ones that were proper scale - were deleted from the workshop, but I still have them because I never unsubbed after they were deleted, and they don't go away from your PC when deleted.

That does not match my experience. Items that are deleted from the workshop will simply disappear from your "workshop" folder during the next time Steam updates workshop content (if you are lucky that may be a day later). All existing buildings in your city will simply vanish. That's rather common actually.

The only time you keep those buildings is if the creator just hides the assets instead of deleting them. That's an easy method to have old users still use those assets at their discretion while you keep new users away and have the workshop page disappear (no more complaints). That's for example what Bad Peanut did with his second modular train station when many people observed some issues after CO changed how pedestrian paths worked. His first model, which he deleted, disappeared from everyone's PCs and people were not happy.

Well, I just checked and can confirm BoldlyBuilding's findings: those Neo Eclectic Houses are indeed still present in the Workshop folder of my installation. Oddly enough Advanced Road Anarchy is also still there, but it was no longer present in-game (couldn't find it with the Content Manager).

Check again tomorrow. Who knows, they may have changed the behavior. However, in my experience, it can take a day or two, particularly if you don't log out of Steam in the meanwhile or depending on your update preferences.

For example, I could read complaints from people that had their stations gone in my above example while mine was still there. Which made me backup that station. It vanished a day later.

Blame Steam's unsatisfactory handling of messages rather than the modder, but in general, if the mod is on steam it vanishes the moment it's taken down. Good for copyright stealers, bad for other reasons.

I suppose you could back up your mods locally or something?

You can. Just backup this folder: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\workshop\content\255710

Just so we know,  which is the folder for workshop mods and which is for local mods since this has happened on mine two or three times? It is understandable why some people get rid of their work but it's also frustrating when a hole just appears in my city. It can be more concerning when it's an important mod, rather than an asset that gets removed and just breaks things.

Workshop Mod Download Folder: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\workshop\content\255710

You can prevent the game from loading this one with the --noWorkshop startup argument.

I would never remove or modify anything in this folder.

    ---

    Local mods folder: C:\Users\...\AppData\Local\Colossal Order\Cities_Skylines\Addons

This is a good way to reduce system load when modding - put all your Props into the local folder (those are rarely updated on Steam) and your essential mod tools, and you can load up with -noWorkshop and design easily.

Also recommended:  Mods List to disable everything you don't need; Mods List runs well out of the local folder and also covers all of the local folder assets and mods, so it can stay active in -noWorkshop mode.
