Hello everybody, as you know I'm starting to upload Files with a regular quality, I'd like to find recomendations how to make better models.

First I model with Sketchup and then render with Gmax BAT tool. and where do you download nice textures?, with software do use to model? What machine do you use to render?

Sorry about my English, spanish is my first language, but I'll do my best to understand everything

Thank you!  :)

Nice to know you decided to open a thread here. Your models are very nice, you need to improve just a few things.

I prefer to render using 3ds Max than Gmax, due to its resources and I can also do dark nite mode models. You can download textures or do them for yourself, most of my textures I decide to do by myself to make them similar with the real building, but some 'common textures' I download.
I recommend you to look for sketchuptexture.com, they have very nice works there.

When possible you should post a preview from some works you're doing, then people can indicate what they think you can change to be better :)

Thank you everybody for your answers I know "mis hermanos Latinos , irmãos latinos"  this is an English Forum and we have to use this universal language, but I'm glad that I'm not alone, but let me ask you...

Are you Rendering with the 3dmax renderizer or do you use something like V-ray and use Vismat Materials? and how do you get those Axonometry Views to get a SC4model in 3Dmax like in the Gmax Bat?

The problem with my Glass high rises is...  that I can't reflect my roofs and all the props near from the building.

Haha, be patient please I'm a "Sophomore".

    Thank you Everybody!

¡Gracias a todos, Saludos desde México!

    Obrigado!

Check out this thread. Jason has a lot of great tutorials, including how to make reflective glass and metals.

Hey! Indeed there's a lot of us, and yes, we have to go with the universal language. It is important to speak English so that no one is left out :)

I've seen your models, and I downloaded some of them. I think it's great to have someone fresh wanting to bat a little about everything.. Specially when there are so many projects out there... Lately, bathe main uploads have been related to New York and London.. Would be nice if you could tackle some towers from New York.. Specially around midtown.

Anyways, whatever you decide, I'm pretty sure we will be happy! Again, I'm glad you opened this thread, and welcome to simtropolis (you never had a proper welcome :P )

Hey, welcome to the forums! :) It's good to see that you have opened a thread.

Don't worry too much about language barrier. Firstly, I think your English is really good, and secondly - as you have seen already - ¡hay un montón de hispanohablantes aquí! (there's lots of Spanish-speaking people here).

First of all, I wouldn't focus on quantity so much - don't put yourself under pressure. These days, we have many buildings to choose from, and the problem is not so much "Man, I cannot find a nice skyscraper". The problem is mostly "Hey, this one would be very nice, but unfortunately the quality is not quite up to the other stuff I'm using." Yes, we can afford to be picky these days. :P

For the functional part, rsc204 has uploaded a tutorial called "My first mod" to the STEX recently that should contain some useful information.

It is not possible to make sub-menus or divide existing menus. Therefore, it makes sense to assign actual functions to the buildings you make, and to make them growable. This way, they don't even need a menu entry.

So you are using sketchup and then import into gmax? You could also use 3dsmax. The tool has a lot more capabilities than gmax (gmax is basically a very old, buggy, and outdated version of 3dsmax "light") and makes it possible to use some nice tricks that are impossible with gmax. If I'm not mistaken, Huston uses the combination Sketchup/3dsmax, too.

It would be best to post a screenshot of the building you are currently working on so we can give some hints. One thing I noticed, for example, is the scale of your models. It looks like you make them according to real scale. This sounds like the perfect approach, but the perspective in SC4 makes the building look too "squashed". For example, a perfect cube in gmax will look like a cuboid in game. Jason has made a tutorial about this, too. In order to counter this problem, a model can be scaled to 133% of its actual height. Then it looks perfect in game.

Too much text already - I hope we'll see more from you, and maybe we can help you a little to use your enormous talent even better! :)

I doesn't matter too much which version you use but you have to keep in mind that some version only work with Win 64-Bit, I think 2013 was the last one that worked with both versions. So if you computer is not the newest one you should go for 2013 or less .Don't worry, the versions aren't too different, it's basically nothing you won't be able to bat without.

For SC4, you'll be needing Bat4Max by SimFox which will enable you to create LODs, set sky and export your buildings, also you will need that for DarkNite versions.

You are going to do Mexico City builidings yayyyyy!!!

Welcome to Simtropolis, paisano, i'm not much into making BATs (soon, I hope I'll have enough time to do it) but i do know a few things about modding, so I can help you out if you wish. I have a lotting project of my own that I am eager to retake. First off, are you using PIM-X? It's a Plugin Manager and Lot Editor combined, much more powerful and precise than the original Maxis tools, you can find it in the LEX at SC4Devotion, the documentation included is rather clear and complete and it's not hard to use.

There haven't been many Latin American buildings for quite some time aside from a couple of really nice Brazilian projects, the LBT seems to have gone off for years and it would be really nice to have some Mexican skyscrapers again, since the ones that exist are quite dated, so please keep up the good work! :)

Hoping to hear more from this thread! ¡Y saludos desde el DF(ectuoso)!

wish i could help you out there. I would hate to think that this is hindering your progress. Obviously, I would try to follow any instructions included. If there weren't any, try visiting the programs website and see if there is any information there about how to install.

Maybe you'll find some information in our pinned Bat4Max and 3DSMax threads. I think you'll have to use a slightly older version, though.

I haven't heard about players using 3ds 2016 for making BATs yet. I have heard of them getting 3ds 2014 to work with Bat4Max with some effort, but I think the latest version Bat4Max is designed for is 3ds 2012.

I haven't looked at the newest version yet, but you should be able to install it the same was as the previous versions. The difference is that for the newest few versions, the BAT4Max buttons for setting up the rendering settings automatically does not work, so you have to set up the rendering settings yourself. The most recent discussion in the 3ds max thread is about this. It's very easy to do.

Hello everybody after some days out, I'm back, I'm start to Install 3D Max 2010 In my Computer, and I'm I don't know what to do with the Bat 4 Max ? It works with the 3dMAX 2010?

The problem when I try to Run Script I have this advertence:

"Runtime error: copy error on file: C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 2010\scripts\startUp\CPTB2startup.ms"

This is just a wild guess, but are you running the script with Administrator rights? Without Administrator rights, Windows may block a script from altering files inside C:\Program Files.
