After kinda lurking here for quite a while I decided that I should also get a thread going to discuss some releases or post some WIPs or just because all the cool modders have their own thread ^^

Anyway here's my latest release, a green skyscraper and hotel, that I made for the #tempted contest. I worked hard on it and am quite proud of it, so you should check it out here :)

Too abstract for my taste, I like your other buildings much more. But I'm eager to see your upcoming works :)

I guess its too abstract since only about half the people who clicked on it, actually subscribed :/ Should just have made a huge toilet, or something along those lines :D But thanks, and Im really enjoying your work too.

    This. Is. Freaking. Amazing. :thumb:

Thanks mate, glad you like it :)

Oh, and I will be on holidays for the next 2 weeks, so no new assets but I will probably be on the communities a few times here and there, so not complete radio silence :)

We already have a huge toilet paper roll... but no we don't need a hufe toilet (I actually expected one).

Same as Dubai... nice, but i prefer your other buildings. :D

    Apprecite it :)

Here's my latest creation the Nakagin Capsule Tower from Tokyo. Very interesting building in real life IMO. Heres the wiki article and a link to the workshop.

This is the kind of architecture I'd associate with the word "dystopia". Really cold, dirty, and above all, ugly. Still, good modeling job ;) I'm just curious why you chose to model this building in particular?

I hoestly just look at buildings or request and if I find something interesting (not necessairly beautiful) and it irks me to make it, i'll make it. And if people don't like it not much is lost.

I want to tackle a bigger project soon (such as a building theme) but that requires a lot of planning, patience and if  it ends up sucking...well that sucks.

I'd really love to see a building theme from you! If you pick the right topic there's no way it could suck :)

Well I've been thinking about making a futuristic/utopian/green city theme. Starting with nice and idyllic houese maybe almost caves (think hobbit caves, not dirty caves),cozy brick houses, overgrown villas,  going up to nice skyscrapers (think like Visu's buildings but more realistic and photoreal) with skygardens and stuff. Just a green city basically.

I've been prototyping a bit and I think I'll just model different buildings of the same "class", then create a texture atlas and then just map the buildings onto it. Not too efficient but the only way to get enough variety without spending hours on hours, adjusting textures and unwrapping every single building. It would be nice though if we could have different buildings share the same texture and have it be a nice 2048x2048 atlas or something.

It will take some time and I'll probably work on other stuff inbetween, so I dont get burned out. And if anyone wants to team up and help me, hit me up!

It is possible to use the same texture or model instance for multiple buildings.

In the best case, it takes 30 seconds in mod tools to replace the texture/model, and the packager detects that the texture/model is shared.

In the worst case, someone has to write a very complex mod for it.

I will try that otherwhise I will ask some modders(who arent on vacation) if its possible to create such a mod. For now here is my newest asset the unbuilt Chicago Spire, requested by BloodyPenguin.

God damnit!! CS is easily the most beautiful never built tower in the world! Amazing work, thanks for doing it! :thumb:

Thanks man. It is such a beautifull tower and very fun to make.

    Different topic: Donations.

I've been thinking about implementing a donate button for my assets. Since I'm still a student I don't need any money to survive, but I'd love to invest into some rather essential software such as crazybump or photoshop. As a reward I thought about making two tiers:

1: For X money you can vote on a poll, on what I should do next.

2: For X+Y money you can chose what asset you want and I will make it to the best of my ability.

Also keep in mind that this is not a store, but just a reward for donating so I need to test the request first before accepting the donation. Now. I'm looking for your feedback on what y'all think befor I implement this, since some of you already have some experience with donations.

    1. Is it even a good idea, or even worth it ?

    2. Should there be more tiers, such as a mention in the description or sth?

    3. Where do you think I should set these prices. I dont want to make it too expensive, but I also still want to have time for my own projects.

    4. Is paypal the way to go or rather patreon or something else altogether ?

I don't have any experience with donations but I thought I'd throw in my two cents anyway:

In general I think it's a good thing. People can show their appreciation of your hard work and reward you for it. I would not expect too much though, but it is definitely worth trying.

But don't start selling your skills, it will probably kill your motivation if you have to model something you are really not interested in ;)

Just FYI....fully functional photoshop can be found easily for free online. That's what my version is.

As far as I know there is no free photoshop that's not a pirated version? Please correct me if I'm wrong :D

But it's nowhere near as expensive as it used to be. I think it works through monthly subscriptions now, for around 9 dollars a month.

    I didn't say it wasn't pirated... :ninja:

Oh.... I thought you must be aware that discussing pirated software on ST is not allowed :D Or does that only apply for game software? o.O

I did not know that. In that case....No...not pirated...it came with the machine...;)

Although I do recall a rather heated discussion once on this site about faking being a student to download 3dsMax for free....can't remember what section that was in though

Yes @wallacet and @TPB, I know about TPB and the likes. And after looking at it again I don't really see a reason to replace my somewhat working "unofficial" version ^^

Anyway, here's my russia tower, another request by bloodypenguin. Here's the workshop link.

    Very nice design !!!!!!

Thanks! And since you like good designs, here's my potato-powered power plant. Initially started out as a joke on a skylines stream, but I decided to roll with it and experiment a bit :kitty:

How the heck do you have so much time to do all this modding? Can we trade jobs?
