I'm just passing by to say that I really like the new simtropolis. It is different from what we had, but it is definitely an improvement... I like it =)

Well, let's see: GIF TestThis is the base avatar from my private site.  Seems to be working fine.

GIFs worked fine for me before the update (more or less), I tried it several times, it doesn't seem to work so I wouldn't advise you to try it out if you want to keep it by any chance

Setting an animated GIF for your profile image should be working again.

Thanks, it's working again :)

I see from the info at the bottom of the page that the user limit for file storage has gone from 0.5 to 4 MB.  Did we change servers in this conversion?

Well, I just realized of a small thing... Before the update my post count was at around 4200. Today I looked at the post count and I saw a giant's leap to 6862 posts!! Any idea of what has happened there? Maybe the comments on CJs got merged in the post count? Am I the only one who experienced that?

Since the upgrade, looks like it's now named "content count", so maybe it does include posts from non-forum areas. Not sure why it should suddenly change though, and it doesn't seem to have affected everyone...

Tried a recount and it didn't seem to make much of a difference.

Would you like it changing back to an estimated value? ;)

Hey, I just made a (minor) change in my signature, and it wasn't saved by the save function.  Any idea why?

What did you try to change? There should be no issues, although the same restrictions on signatures we had still apply:

    • maximum of 2 images
    • image size 300 x 50 max
    • max of 10 links
    • max of 10 lines of text

If you were still within that, and it still didn't take let me know what you were attempting to do.

Will try again.  I tried adding a line of text, but it might have been one too many.  This time I'll edit an existing line.

Worked this time.  I only have seven lines of text and only one image.  Silly, but this time I got the confirmation note, and I don't remember seeing it last time.  Must not have pressed save, but I was sure I had.

I've been playing a bit with the CJ section and even though at the moment I feel like I've just woken up in Mars, I think it's looking pretty cool.

But let's ask some questions :-)

    3) If there's a picture in any of your entires, wider that the width of the template (I have some wallpapers 1600px wide) the whole page is stretched to match the size: https://community.simtropolis.com/journals/journal/5240-leningrad-ленинград-1941-44/

    4) The previous point also gives me the feeling that when I enter in a CJ all pictures from all entries are being loaded. It takes a while with the "thinking" mouse pointer.

I notice that as well (point 4, mainly, but also point 3).

Part of my agreement with the CJ section previously was the paged style, where each entry was it's own page, limiting scrolling on content heavy posts, and allowing those with slower internet connections to have manageable download bursts. It's one of the reasons I tended to avoid the CJ forums despite following a number of well-produced CJs there (I followed them, but almost never visited, because the page of 30 posts and often up to 5 entries per page took far too long to load and navigate). My own CJ loads slow enough on the forums, and I haven't made it out of page 1; now it feels like my CJ section CJ (mirror of the forums) is suffering from the same fate, and is overwhelming in content, slow to load, and provides endless scrolling.

Is there any way to restore some semblance of the old paged format? After all, it's not like the forums section don't already provide the long list-like entry format.

@Kim Sunwoo @APSMS This entry listing page you both reference will be improved and better presented so that it's just loading the entry title, instead of loading the content which may contain images which will slow down the loading of the entire page if there are a lot of images for each entry.

Whatever recount happened definitely made some difference. I've lost over 7,000 posts compared to where I was before!

Of course I've been around long enough that a lot of my posts from the early days have been long since deleted, so recounting would do that.

In other news, I notice my custom member label has risen from the dead. Now that's cool to have back.

Yes all post counts have been recounted during the upgrade, the number you have now is accurate.

Are you sure? How many hanging chads were counted? :P

The tip on access to the browser spell checker works great.  Why not make it the default, and stop hunting for a separate one.  This integration with the browser saves yet another dictionary and may save the site some disk space for additions.

I cannot get the link for my signature to work. I have tried updating it, but everytime I click on my signature the page cannot be found.

It doesn't work indeed.  Did you try setting it up again (edit the link panel)?  I'll check to see if mine works.

    Just checked.  Works just fine.

Have confirmed empirically that content outside the forums (e.g. STEX comments) now contribute to your post count. Deleting them, however, still does not make it go down.

Some old time legends have seen the most dramatic effects. The Milkman, winner of a 2003 Trixie for "most spammy over-poster" now has 80 posts...

Tried the given link.  Works for me.  Just a moment ...

Signature link does not take you to that item.  Have you tried replacing it?  If so, then there is a problem with embedded links.

Perhaps I am doing it wrong. When editing my signature, I highlight the image and click on the Link button which then allows me to replace the signature which I do. Not sure where things are going wrong.

I think you right click on the image to get up image properties.

In the signature editor, try left clicking the image once (to select), then press the link 5UjrIXG.png or the image button J8ad7kg.png

You should see the current link already there. Both these options should allow it to be changed (in the "Image Properties" window, it's on the "Link" tab).

If there's still issues, I'd suggest clearing your signature & removing the formatting, then inserting your image back in.

Ok, for some reason, doing it through the image button worked, whereas doing it through the link button did not.
