Call me crazy but I'm starting to actually like Brutalism.

Some of it.

It reminds me of the Communist era and it's nastalgic.

But don't get me wrong.

Some of it is DISGUSTING!

Unfortunately when it was constructed there was one thing that was overlooked: roof drainage

For many years water from the roof would just fall off the edge of the roof. Then they decided to do something about it. Instead of going with the conventional gutter and drainpipe thing they decided to go with a new design: spillway!

At either end of the buliding they installed holes in the roof which spilt water from the roof down onto a sloped wall like a spillway where it flowed into underground drains. Unfortunately I havn't got any photos of it because nearby vegetation has made the building almost invisible! But those spillways now maintain a nice thick layer of slime from years of water. This square building with an oversized roof although an eyesore can now hardly be seen. And what is with the holes in the walls for windows. They can hardly be seen in the photos but today if you can and have a look through then all you can see is the back of a bookshelf. Some seriously bad design.quote>

Whoever designed this need to be shot It looks like a concrete turd.

I agree with Silur, it looks really bad. Looks like an unfinished model,... and a very boring facade!

take care,

@panthersimcity4 - I think the Ryugyong Hotel in Pyongyang would look stunning in a modern glass/steel facade and to have it finished, it's a very unusual building in a good way.

Yes, they are made of bronze or copper. If they are made of copper, in 20 years it will look like acid is eating the building

Agreed, they should certainly finish it off... god knows Pyongyang could do with some tourism, liven the place up abit.

I started to dispise the Arc de la Defence in Paris recently... its alright for an Architect to think outside the box, but turning your building into a box is just wrong...

Someone made that for SC4 here, it's on the STEX.

Henry_Ford_Auditorium.jpg

Ford Auditorium, Detroit. A decaying 70's attempt at public spaces. Many people, including some in the city want it torn down; but the Ford Family threatens to cut donations to the City if they tear it down. Some people are just.....

Now, do you think that this should be torn down for parking? (Big red building)

Actually, that round building is pretty cool. Those 2 on the left are awful though.

Not an actual building, but a "statue" located in the centre of Skellefteå, North Sweden. I don't know what it's supposed to look like, but it's ugly for sure!

It's the Dutch Film- and Television Academy and they had to demolish an entire block of beautiful Amsterdam rowhouses to make way for this piece of concrete and green glass! An absolutely horrible decision! 46.gif

Hey! Are you a HAIFer? If so, awesome! So am I! *check sig*

Anyway, yeah, that building is an eyesore from the sides. In the front, the building is actually nice for Uptown.

Not signed up but actually found the site while looking for a picture of the building to email some friends. Saw that thing going up at various stages since my mother lives off Westeimer. I agree the front looks good, but unfortunately buildings have 4 sides, and the direction it faces has the least visibility of the building.
