It would be illegal to build any normal building with less than 30% of the windows operable. I am bitter that my school's new architecture building does not have a single one, so it relies completely on mechanical systems for all ventilation.

$2.49 in Fargo, North Dakota. It doesn't matter much to me, I drive about 10,000 miles per year in a compact Saturn.

Man Reads Entire Oxford English Dictionary

One of the people my sister went up against in the state spelling bee championships back in the day said she spent at least 4 hours per day studying the dictionary. I don't understand why you'd spend a significant portion of your childhood doing such a thing, but to each their own. -
Weather for Fargo, North Dakota: 86°F Current:ClearWind: SE at 9 mph Humidity: 55% We may have horrifyingly cold and windy winters, but the summers are gorgeous. It doesn't get too much hotter or more humid than this, only for short stretches.

Originally posted by: Duke87 Well, the Polo is currently Europe-only, though there is talk of bringing it over here. Although, your 74.3 mpg figure is wrong. The polo runs on 3.8 L/100 km according to Volkswagen's website... which, if one crunches the numbers, comes out to 61.9 mpg*. Now, that's still pretty damn impressive, but it's less than what you're saying. Same goes for the Ibiza. Anyways, though, there are a couple flaws I see with the car itself: 1) It runs on diesel - a disadvantage since diesel is less readily available and more expensive than regular gas. 2) It has manual transmission. Ick. I suppose I should also point out that the Chevy Volt which is coming out in a couple years can potentially be run using absolutely no fuel of any kind, Just plug it in and charge the battery! *the calculations: 3.8 L/100 km → divide by 100 → 0.038 L/km → invert fraction → 26.32 km/L × 0.621 mi/1 km → 16.34 mi/L × 3.785 L/1 gal → 61.85 mpgquote> The 74.3 MPG is in Imperial gallons, the 61.9 is in U.S. Gallons. There are 1.2 U.S. gallons per Imperial gallon, which some people are too smug to admit. American cars are really not that much less efficient than European cars. I drive a small car rated for 28/39 city/hwy by the EPA, and its equivalent in England would be 34/47 urban/ex-urb. Even my previous car, which could seat 8 people, was 19/29 in the U.S. and would be 23/35 in the U.K. How many 8-seaters do you guys have that get 35 MPG? Any I still don't understand the hate for manual transmissions. They're not that difficult to learn, and make driving more fun and involving. Sure, it becomes more difficult to text and eat while driving, but that can only be a good thing.

When my brother was born, my parents bought the smallest vehicle they could find that could fit three car seats across the back, which was a Mercury Sable. It's not that hard to strap three kids in the back of a sedan, and there is really nothing wrong with kids fighting a little bit. Pacifying them with electronics probably does more harm in the long run. That's just my opinion. Vienna uses the same transportation setup as most German cities. I was recently all over Germany and marveled at how easy and fast it was to get around in the city because of the system, though similar trips in Berlin took noticeably longer than they did in Munich.

Legalize it and see how society destroys itself. Just think of the hippies.quote> 1. All of us would agree that the hippies did not destroy the social structure of the world. 2. How many people would you think would want to be Hippies? I don't think much of the population would become one. quote> Drug use was just one component of the hippie movement. The movement was about challenging the norms of society more than anything. Drug use is not a causal factor in being a hippie, there are a lot more people that use marijuana than there are hippies. A lot.

There is no reasonable argument against taking business away from drug dealers. Think of all the horrible things that were done for booze during prohibition - these things are still done today for drugs. Taking the control away from cartels and giving it to the government could, in theory, drastically reduce crime. That is my argument for legalization, besides the fact that alcohol abuse is far more destructive and dangerous than marijuana abuse and yet is legal.

I like the use of crosswalks that are level to the sidewalk rather than the street. This causes cars to slow down and look for pedestrians, and gives pedestrians the true right of way. I'm not saying to use this at all crossings, just at those where you want a smooth flow of pedestrian traffic. And I guess ped/bike orientation in general. Much easier and cheaper to just walk places.

They did decide to put one in Fargo, ND, where it doesn't do any good. It's in the middle of a new residential development with practically no traffic.
