in my case, upgrading to 8G ram should fix my proformance issues, right?

windows 8.1

Intel Core i7-4510U CPU @ 2.00GHz 2.60GHz

4G ram 64 bit

nvidia geforce 840M

Nope, but 8GB will help a bit.

You seem to be on a laptop which means you have a low-powered system so it can run on batteries, so your performance will suffer.

Not to mention your i7 processor is only a dual core which is minimum requirements, along with the 840m probably just minimum as well.

AMD FX 6300 six core, Sapphire Radeon R9 270, 8GB Ballistic Crucial RAM, windows 8.1. Running game at 1080p.

Nice setup, you should do well with this game.

would upgrading ram be worth it then?

Upgrading RAM is up to you.  I think it would probably eliminate lag early game. but mid to late game your lag may return.  If you like assets and mods installed you will definitely need 8GB, but that will cause lag unless you use the most basic ones for need rather than want.

If you plan on creating 9-tile cities then 8GB may be worth it as you may not get there without it.

Memory prices have been low lately, so it's up to you on if it's worth it.  If you like city builders and plan on playing it a lot, then maybe.  otherwise you may want to play some more to decide if you will play this game enough to warrant investing more money in your laptop.

But you are definitely low on RAM as windows wants around 1.5GB and the game wants up tp 3.5GB so you can see you are over 4GB immediately.

You may also want to check to make sure you are using your 840M graphics.  You also have an Intel integrated graphics in yoiur laptop and you will get bad lag if it's being used.  You need to make sure the 840M is being used before doing anything.  It should be in the nVIDIA control panel somewhere.  Sorry, I don't have a laptop so I am unfamiliar where it would be located.

So far seems to run the game fine.

Asus P8P67LE
12GB DDR3 1333
Sapphire R9 280X @ Prolimatech MK-26 (stripped factory cooler cuz too noisy)
40" Samsung TV......... AMD VSR (super sampling) from 1080p to 1440p
Windows 10 Pro 64bit
Logitech G300, G105, Chillstream

Playing everything at 1440p (2560x1440) nowadays, that card still can handle it somewhat... just can't expect max out in modern games.

System I am getting, I think it should run the game fine, but wanting some "experienced" opinion on this system and how well it'll run Skylines with high(er) setting and using the various map-size mods (not the 81-tile one, just the 25-tile one) to have a large-sized map.

Intel Core i7 6700 Quad-Core, 3.4 GHz

16 GB DDR4-2133 RAM

2 GB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960

Windows 10 OS, 2TB HDD, Integrated Sound, Yadda, Yadda.

Looks good.  Plenty of ram for assets and a few mods if desired.  Cpu should handle a few mods and 25-tiles.  Video is about minimum for 25-tiles, but more video ram would be better.  I prefer 8GB, but I think the 960 only goes to 4 gb.  Maybe look for some 6gb and 8gb cards if budget allows.  It will be easier on the assets.

Thanks, I've already ordered the system and the larger video cards didn't quite fit into the budget. I'm hoping the lack of VRAM, which I wanted more of, can be made up for by the system RAM.  Maybe down the road I'll get a better video card and upgrade.   But this one on its own already required me to get a bigger PSU, so I figured something about it must be good. ;)   Thanks for the help.

I am looking at buying a used computer from someone and am hoping to find out if it could run this fantastic game I've been itching to play.

It is:

AMD Phenom II 1090T 3.20ghz

24gb ram

AMD Radeon 6970 2gb video

600 watt thermal take PSU

1tb hard drive

Any thoughts?

Thanks!  I know it beats the min specs but falls just shy of recommended specs for GPU. I just didn't want to fork out the cash and then  be disappointed that it didn't work.

Your GPU is way, way past minimum specs.  It is equivalent to the 7870 that is recommended.  You should have no problems with your video card.

As for forking out cash, what are we talking about?  As a whole, the system should handle the game fine.  But is it worth the money is another story.

I depends on you.  This game likes a larger CPU for larger cities.  A dual core won't get you to a full 8-tile city.

Maybe look at specs for this game.  Minimum is too low, but recommend specs would be a minimum.  Higher if you use workshop.

I guess it just depends on what you want out of this game.

Yeah, I think it will. You cant expect your city to grow too big due to the dual-core processor though.

Does hard drive size matter with this game? Would 2TB run the game better than 250GB?

I'd like to build a large city with lots of assets and mods like the popular YouTube builders.

What kind of system would I need for that?

Nope, it doesn't matter as long as you have enough space for the game and some extra (computers generally don't like when the disk gets full). SSD will make it load faster, but doesn't really do much for performance while playing.

A good place to start is to see what sort of system the youtubers have. Many have their specs shown in their About page or there's a link to a website where they have it listed. Ofc they have some extra stuff for recording that you don't need, but it gives you an idea of what sort of CPU, GPU and amount of RAM they use.

My specs are 2x Xeon E5-2690s @3.5GHz (2x8cores/16threads, upgrading to e5-2687W v2s at some point), 16GB memory (upgrading to 128GB at some point, also had 64GB, but it was ECC, so I changed it over to gaming), a GTX980 GRID model, and 8x,10k rpm SAS 160GB drives in a raid-0 setup. I also do virtualization, hence the crazy cores/threads count.

Ok...let me start with the specs for my rig...

OS - Win10 Home 64-bit
CPU - Intel I-5 8600K 6 Core Coffee Lake 14nm @ 3.6 GHz
RAM - 16GB (2x 8GB with two slots still empty)
MB - ASRock Z370 Pro4
GPU - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB

These specs well exceed the recommended specs for the game.

I currently have 31 mods installed from the workshop, and 21 assets from the workshop...minimalistic compared to the numbers I have read about from other players. One of the mods is the "Loading Screen Mod" by thale5. When I load, my RAM and VRAM numbers go orange. 8.5 of RAM and 15 of VRAM. This is before I have placed my first road. So here is my question....

Does anyone know if I can go to 32GB of RAM (since I have the available slots) on Win10 Home, and are my other components (CPU, etc.) capable of allowing that increase? I realize that I could simply research this myself, but I like input from folks that play the game.
