Well damn this city look gorgeous lol. I love the stadium in the previous update and how you've done the government buildings in the latest one. I love especially how its given you a real sense of age to the city and a real centre for it. Reminds me a bit of Paris with all the government buildings and its parks.

Very good job!

Fantastic design. Those bush-lined footpaths are done so well.

Dear sir/madam/whoever will read this!

This profile is now defunct.

Computer problems and issues with accessing my Imageshack account meant My SC4 CJ Scrapbook was lost and utterly irretrievable. This setback put me off SC4 for many months.

Apologies for the inconvenience and for the lost pictures.

But that SC4 itch did not go away and it had to be scratched! I have started afresh with a new account here- The British Sausage

The URS is a spiritual successor to the SC4 CJ Scrapbook.

With this update this will be the last time I visit my original Simtropolis account- admin/mods feel free to remove it or do whatever you need to do. I have no further use for the Ln X (BLANKBLANK) account.

This game looks so gorgeous!

Best graphics in a city building game I have ever seen. I think it's the most realistic too.

Excellent job! Love your mall building and the fact that even with a skyline, your city seems to "breathe". Very well done.

Your design has a particular style. You have clear tree-lined corridors, distinctive areas, and then within these areas you have a non-grid local road system. It's sort of urban areas embedded in a broader suburban framework. It is very beautiful. It is probably very convenient to live there, run your errands, and the property tax is quite reasonable, except your CBD area with all the skyscrapers.

Very neat.

the more I look at you pictures and city you are building I cant help but think those few people who complain about the scale of this game must be crazy! the depth of what I see is spot on and I love how you have limited the amount of interchanges it looks and feels so real you are doing some stunning work here awesome job

I try to keep it realistic scale-wise indeed. I find it's pretty hard to keep doing that though. When I'm zoomed in doing detail work, I tend to think I'm building a huge area. When I zoom out a bit again, I decide it's actually too small, and then I bulldoze it and start again :) A guideline I've set for myself is that I want to have at least 2 km between main highway intersections. I'd prefer to keep even more, but I have to stay within the games limits. With comments like yours though I think I managed to pull off what I set off to do :)

Yep, working as intended :) I personally like to grow my cities organically, and not start off with a 'grand plan'. It works out for what I'm trying to do. Thanks for the compliment.

Fantastic design. Those bush-lined footpaths are done so well.

Thanks. I think I was playing with path layouts for well over an hour :D

Great work; this is my favourite CS journal so far, so please keep the updates coming!

Thanks for the kind words. Updates will keep coming, although, today I couldn't do a big one sadly.

Wow ! Awesome update. Very good design of your city. It's look like a real one. Continue your great work. :)

Thanks. I don't think I'm getting tired of this game and this city any day soon. I've just unlocked my 6th tile, so there's still more than enough room to expand. I'm thinking about unlocking the full 25.

    Very good job!

    Best design

    Thanks, glad you like it.

    This game looks so gorgeous!

Best graphics in a city building game I have ever seen. I think it's the most realistic too.

I'm really enjoying it yes. It's stunning what you're able to do with just the main game. I'm waiting for the workshop to settle down a bit before I fully dive into mods. But it should be even better in the future.

Excellent job! Love your mall building and the fact that even with a skyline, your city seems to "breathe". Very well done.

I'm designing sections of the city from what I've seen around me, combined with what I would like to see where I live (not for all districts though :)). I like to breathe, guess it shows through ;)

    Very neat.

I was a pretty money hungry mayor, but lately cash hasn't been an issue in the city, so I've relaxed the taxes a bit. The cims seem to love it in Forkton :)

I can't agree more with all the others who replied.......just wow!   :thumb:

Seeing all this makes it even harder to wait for my new pc, so that I can finally have a go at it myself.  :P

    It's worth the wait! :)

    Sort of Update time:

I didn't have too much time to play today, and part of that time was spent in the asset editor making some things I needed, so sadly, I can't give you a full update today.

I can however show some sneak peaks at what's coming soon (and I get to show of what I've been working on in the asset editor).

Which brings me one of the things that makes me love this game so much. Every time I have this odd corner where I want something nice to fit, or when I look at a certain building and decide there's something missing (like the parking lots for the Forkton Frenzy Stadium), I don't have to hop online to search the STEX, the LEX, Simpeg or other random sites to try and find something that fits. I can just hop into the editor and make it myself relatively quickly. This is what's making this game AMAZING to me. The flexibility, it's beyond awesome.

Anyways, enough rambling, here's the sneak-preview.

That is a nice train station! I love the overpasses and the use of those diagonal waiting areas.

Some more pictures of the finished situation in this update. I caught myself just looking at the cims moving all around the transport hub. I must have spent 15 minutes just looking :)

Can you please post an external download? for the terrain map^^

I'll see if I can share it on the workshop if I get the time.

Thanks, and I think that's the idea of CJ's; to share ideas. Glad you like it.

This Journal is great! Really enjoying it, can't wait to see more! :D

Thanks :) Don't have to wait long.

    Update:

Damn, it took longer to finish what I wanted to finish for today's update than I care to admit :) I might stop doing daily updates soon. I need some better nights of sleep, but this game just manages to grab me :)

Anyways, with the provincial government now a part of Forkton, things have kept moving along. The district has been dubbed Uppington by the Forktonians, I guess because the buildings are taller. The extra tourists that are visiting have made the demand for new shops go through the roof, and the provincial government is always in need of consultants, financial advisers and everything else that comes along with a large administration center. There's been some crazy talk amongst the city council about building even higher up than we already did in Uppington. We have plenty of room available to grow, so I vetoed this needlessly expensive approach. It has taken quite a few years of construction. But here's the view from Uppington after most of the construction crews have left the area.

As you can see one of Uppington's main boulevards has gotten considerable longer

    FTqJCyi.jpg

The new section of boulevard is large an extension of Uppington's main shopping street.

    iHMgWcG.jpg

Here's the entrance to the new convention center that has been built.

    tD1QaMN.jpg

And right across from the Expo center is a nice park.

    zQ5Aw1i.jpg

As you can probably imagine, the new Expo center is drawing visitors from all over the region. A lot of main infrastructure has been constructed to make sure it's easy to reach.

    XOVqAdG.jpg

Forkton now has a second train station. There's a direct line between Old Forkton station, and the expo center.

    MHAV3k5.jpg

There's direct bus lines to Uppington, Pantsdam and the Forkton Frenzy Stadium, along with a few more local routes.

    JKVz0Jd.jpg

Here are some more pictures of the people going about their daily business.

    9ekMsHR.jpg

    5HCX6jc.jpg

There are also other buildings that benefit from the public transportation connectivity like a new Hospital and a new University that could be spotted in an earlier picture.

    Z2RuZPu.jpg

Some effort has been made to block most of the noise from the trains.

    IcQSAC5.jpg

Next to the main shopping street, are some offices and residential blocks.

    THKIi6v.jpg

    ZFg635D.jpg

The buildings get slightly shorter towards the outer sections of the district.

    pVstunT.jpg

    F8S9Aw9.jpg

The outskirts of the new district are low density once again. These suburbs are nestling into the corner of the Forkton Spoon. That's why they're being called Spoon's Hug.

    0ogFO1n.jpg

    uc49m9b.jpg

The urban part of the new district has been called 'Sporkton'... Spoon... Fork...... sometimes I hate the people in this town....

Here's an overview of Sporkton looking in the direction of Old Forkton.

    TYYc2U0.jpg

and in the direction of the fork of the river.

    aPGUmP9.jpg

A view of Spoon's Hug from the roof of one of the buildings in Sporkton.

    TITQc8C.jpg

Here's the view of Uppington and Sporkton from the old town hall over in Old Forkton.

    l6mSliR.jpg

I'm not even sure if the people over here in Floydside even noticed the change. It seems so far away from here.

    9aDwED5.jpg

And the new region view from one of our newly trained Seagulls.

    a8buhR5.jpg

Anyways, to wrap up today's update, here's the district map. There's currently well over 50.000 people living in Forkton.

Thanks for reading, hope you've enjoyed this update.

jasperb: Thanks, I remember trying stuff like that in cities in motion 1, so figured it might work here as well.

Mymyjp: Thanks. I has been growing quickly late, a bit too quick to my liking tbh :)

    Jesper107: Cheers

Ln X:I had a lot of fun building it, although it was a bit finicky in places. Apparently it's pretty hard to build a couple of roads close together at exactly 45 degrees :)

    charlesnew: Thanks :)

perken: Sorry I missed an update yesterday, but stuff happened etc. Yep, just pedestrian paths next to the roads. This way you can control on which side they are able to zone as well (which is why I started using them, afterwards I found that I just thought they looked nice, so I kept using them.

Gurra09: Thanks, as an old CiM player myself I figured it might just work :)

Paulobergonci: Thanks, I'm trying to build something realistic. Happy to hear it's working.

    Ultimate727: Thanks, again :)

Mr_Maison: You having fun in the snow? The game can wait, the snow will melt :)

AgeKay: I simply love the asset editor :) no more searching the stex/lex/simpeg etc for hours to try to find something that fits, just build what you want yourself :)

89James89: Thanks. It actually sort of looks like the train station area in my home city. Just really happy I got it to work in this game.

Well done, your CJ is number one on Ben's Top Ten - Cities: Skylines this week.

Well darn :D that's a very pleasant surprise. Thanks Ben!

    Update:

Well, as you've all seen, Forkton has been growing like mad lately. A lot of new people have been moving in.

Also, there have been some changes in the provincial rules and regulations department.

Apparently (ever since the provincial government moved into Forkton) the new politicians in town really didn't like all the inpromptu markets that happened on irregular days in all the parks. The residents of forkton (and especially the farmers) would just bring a lot of their produce to the park, set up a little stall, and sell the fresh wares right in town. It got a bit out of hand I'm afraid, and all non-regulated markets have been banned all over the province, so in Forkton as well.

I never knew that such a lot of stuff was sold on these markets (without paying us taxes as well!). I've received a stunning amount of permit requests from people wanting to start new shops.

New shops have popped up in Groveside...

    uPs2dnG.jpg

    Over in Pantsdam...

    YNy0WWu.jpg

A lot of new shops opened up in Uppington as well. Next to the courthouse and city hall...

    EAtcyZg.jpg

and on both sides of the Uppington park.

    uGeYwOn.jpg

It still wasn't enough. Incredible, but true. Also, since a lot of new shops opened, there was a lot of demand for new accountants, advertisement firms etc as well. I've decided to zone a new business park. It's the first district of Forkton without any housing whatsoever. We've had to increase police patrols there at night because of this. The F-siders like to come hang out here for some reason.

Welcome to the Finex Business District, it's been constructed in the armpit of the Furnace Bypass.

    sqeXoCF.jpg

It's a hub of commercial activity. A lot of new businesses were quick to jump on this opportunity.

    a2Sz1dR.jpg

Since it's a bit further away from the residents, we've planned some additional parking space here as well.

    YBrFfrF.jpg

And as always in this city, one thing led to another. All these new shops selling goods, increased the demand for supplies drastically. The factories in the Forge stepped up their production. The extra trucks coming in and out of the area were putting too much strain on the level crossings. An additional overpass was constructed to separate incoming and outgoing traffic, increasing traffic flow a lot.

    1BfZD8q.jpg

It has become very clear though that the Furnace was at its capacity, and it still wasn't enough.

As I've said before, big problems ask for big solutions. The intern suggested a completely new industry park. It has been planned a bit further away from the city. To be able to level out supply and demand, we've also connected to the rail road network, and to the shipping lane running through our river.

    r5JwDVk.jpg

Here's a better look at the new port.

    bwyoTeq.jpg

Big industry, big traffic. The port traffic has been separated from the traffic of the industrial district.

We already had planned a Y interchange to give traffic going to Sporkton an earlier exit. The plans for the new interchange were quickly upgraded with a connection to the new area, and 2 extra roundabouts.

    SUTUvJ0.jpg

It has become a monster of an interchange. Party because the main rail road Y split towards Sporkton is located here as well.

    D7uhSK6.jpg

The new industry also required more power. Since the last Solar generator was so effective, we've decided to build three more.

    XjSxMW2.jpg

The farmlands of the Forkton Flats have expanded a bit towards the new industry district, and the new solar plant was connected to the rest of our network.

    W3wFqbF.jpg

There's currently almost 53.000 people living in Forkton.

    JTh36Z1.jpg

Here's an overview of the transportation network of Forkton. After fixing the problems that arose with all this new activity, it's still flowing nicely.

    D7B5Q5C.jpg

    Thanks for reading!
