Saha Airlines. I didn't even realize they ended their 707 service. I've always wanted to go to Iran just to see all the classics that are still in the air.

Great job! Nice to see a Varig plane  :)

Much appreciated! I know there are several other Varig jets made by the AC team and SCAG. But neither have the 707 :P

*Ding ding ding!* We have a winner! I'll be sending you a PM soon!

I also second that. Not many 707's, 727's or even F-14's are around and it seems the only airworthy copies of them can only be found there. It would especially be nice to see a few Tomcats flying again for airshows.

Small update- The Saha livery is finished! This was the last livery to be made for the upcoming official release. The Farsi writing was a little challenging to correct, though.

    Thank you, Keith!

And now for another sonic update-

The wings are going to be a major pain, I just know it.

I am a naughty, no-good liar. I was able to finish the wings and this is the result.

    Ewwww,planes :thumb:

Naa,just kidding, planes are cool.I mean i`m living just a few minutes away of the twelvth biggest airport in the world so i`m pretty okay with them.

The classic 707 Boings are real beauties,i love everything classic and these old birds are definately not an eyesore in the sky.I wonder how many of them are still in regular use.

The Sonic Cruiser looks totally wacky,i first had to google it (my first thought ws: uhmm did they accidently swap the front wings with the rear wings?)

It`s a shame that this crazy plane didn`t made it into production.Would have ben cool to look up the sky and see this futuristic bird up there.

Speaking of futuristic: That Streetsweeper posted by Konstantin...i bet i`m not the only one who was reminded of the ore/tiberium harvesters from the Command and Conquer Series, right?

The Sonic Cruiser was supposed to be the next step to breaking the sound barrier after the Concorde. But now the Concorde is gone and the Sonic Cruiser never left the drawing table, making fast airline travel dead. Now it's just conventional aircraft which is fine for most routes but seems like a step backwards.

Here's a list of airlines that i'm planning for the Sonic Cruiser. The idea for these ones come from airlines that use the 747 and A380.

    Generic:
    -Plain White
    -Boeing House Colors

    Airlines:
    -Air Canada
    -Air China
    -Air France
    -Air India
    -Air New Zealand
    -British Airways
    -Delta
    -Emirates
    -Japan Airlines
    -KLM
    -Korean Airlines
    -Lufthansa
    -Malaysia Airlines
    -Qantas
    -Qatar
    -Saudi Arabian Airlines
    -Singapore Airlines
    -United Airlines

    -Virgin

I'm looking forward to seeing them.

Can you make sometime, a tutorial how to model a plane?

As in, using the program or just designing a plane?

For now, it'll just be a matter of adding the finer details like landing gear and doing some last minute model tweaking. Then the textures will be underway soon, and I will be posting the results as I continue to work on this project.

I want to know how to create planes too. Specifically, I want to create a blended body plane.

    You mean this design?

    Slide3a.jpg

Now the Blended Wing Body is a fairly simple design. It's just a smooth 1-piece wing with three engines and wingtips mounted on it. First make a cylinder running along the width. I'm assuming you know Gmax, so what we need to do next is to bend and shape each section (picking by vertex, this will give us precise cross sections) to match the wing.

Once that's done, make our engines by using the same technique, but this time we fold the sections at the back to make them look more like stacked engine components. To connect them, you could use pylons or i've seen some designs with the engines incorporated in the fuselage. Google Images has some good results showing different designs, and plenty of reference material even more so than the Sonic Cruiser.

If you're curious, I have some modified configurations of the BWB, but the basic design is about the same.

Progress on the Sonic Cruiser isn't exactly the fastest, but that's okay because then I can get the more subtle details out of the way. This is the exhaust cone in for one of the engines.

With one year ending and a new one beginning, I'm looking forward to what the new year will have in store for us. New models from some of the most talented authors on the Exchange are something to anticipate as well!

I think I gained a few kilo's over the season so getting back in shape is a must for me. But don't worry, progress on the Sonic Cruiser will continue. So far, the textures on the wings are taking shape. After mapping out where all the major components and seams will be, I will continue to work on engine textures and afterwards work on the fuselage.

And for a small bonus, this is something that I whipped up for fun. This was already posted to the Show Us What You're Working On thread but I think I am soo funny!

Quick little side project- The Maxis steam train in all-black. It's amazing how much of a difference a uniform color along with muted textures can have. This little texture was based on Trolca's steam trains, sort of as an experiment.

Older project that's been on since since last year that I hope to revive in the near future.

In fact, there could be a few projects to revisit, but probably not for a while if that were the case.

Ah, gotta love those classic Cunard liners... could it be that the smokestacks on Queen Mary are tilted a bit too far backwards? I think they could also be a tad thicker. Pity those air vents can't be properly rounded due to the polygon limit. :(

The rotation shouldn't be that steep, most of the reference material I had to work with show the funnels at somewhat of a sharp angle.

But yes, the poly count is the Achilles's heel of automata. If the poly count is too much, then the model will either not show up or crash the game. The Titanic (hmm, maybe I should consider revisiting this one again) was pushing 1700 and the Cunard Queen shown here is a little over 2400 polys..

I hope I can have enough to at least install some railings and the stern bridge, though I might have to sacrifice a lifeboat or two.
