I was bored so I made up an avenue/road turning lane texture. It's of a euro design, and a right hand drive version can be made by flipping it. I will also make a USA style one, an one for crossroad when I have time.

Compressed Texture

If anyone has any suggestions on them, please comment.

I'm not sure when modding team will have time to modd this, and when it will be released, but I will post the textures seperately in a zip file shortly.

*Please note that the texture shown above is a compressed JPEG version, and will not be used in the game.

Why does one drive on a parkway and park on a driveway?

Why is delivery by boat called a cargo and one by land called a shipment?

I have now completed the USA texture. Please be aware that these can be flipped to suit left hand drive games.

(COMPRESSED JPEG)

Preview Texture (BETA)

As before, any suggestions please comment.

Dexter, your texture looks good, but the US Federal Highway Administration and American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) have standards for lane sizes, stripe widths, arrow sizes and positioning, etc. These standards are almost universally adopted by Highway and Transportation Departments across the US, which is why all state, Federal, and Interstate highways look about the same.

I'll see if I can find any information online.

Cheers,

Kevin

dexter: looks awesome...suggestion...what about right turn lanes (USA) or left (euro) so the road is 4 lanes wide on one side? would that be possible. on many major roads here in texas, there are turn or deceleration lanes for right turns so traffic flow is improved.

Dexter, that USA texture looks great! However, the turn lane area in the middle of the intersection should be removed, because not only have I never seen that, but it would make traffic confusing.

And hawkpride147, are you talking about those little small turn lanes that don't actually go into the intersection? If so, I'd like those too, except you'd probably have to use a portion of the tile next to the road for it (unless you made the lanes a little smaller).

Intrresting stuff here Dexter. I like it but I would say getting rid of the markings in the middle of the intersection. For an international release, geting rid of those "only" markings is a must. ryanb_sc4, that stuff looks great too.

wow, i would like this in the us version and right hand driving as this is way better than the turning lanes that takes over the middle of the avenue with yellow lines on each side and not only at crossings.

shanghai kid:  Tarkus and I are working on making the centre left turn lane work better for everyone.  I don't know how much I can say about it - I don't want to let any cats out of the bag, if you will - but I can say the textures will be a lot more complete than I was ever able to do with my original centre left turn lane mod.

Avenue/Road Turning Lanes (USA RHD Version)

Compressed BETA Textures

base7busacompressedso0.jpg

base8usacrosscompressedgg1.jpg

Above are two newer USA textures. I made them last week, but didn't have time to upload them 24.gif.

It was mentioned above, that the "ONLY" on the turn lanes should be removed for  non-English speaking regions. I will post an updated version sometime this week.

These are compressed textures. Like I said above, I will release full versions and alphas when the design is completed 2.gif.

A few opinions of mine: I think it would be best to keep the T-intersection "clean" like the cross and default avenues, just for looks sake. It also seems the dotted lines aren't really needed for the turn lanes; those are usually used when an existing lane turns into a exit/turn-only lane, so they seem a bit redundant.

A bit of work could be saved by using the existing ATL textures (which would be automatically overwritten by the US texture mod).

I gotta say that these newer textures look awesome Dexter! About that "only" thing, I think it is "only" used in the States but nowhere else.

Just one suggestion/request while we are talking about turning lanes, the ave/ave T-intersection, will that be considered to have turn lanes included? The terminating (ave that ends at the intersection) ave could have left/right turn arrows at the intersection, possibly using the median for an extra left turn lane (2 left, 1 right). That might be tricky to do but if it was created in game that would look terrific!

Best of luck with the progress of these projects!

ArkenbergeJoe, that looks pretty good! but the only thing i find not so good about it, is that the columns are pretty big..

Dexter, why don't you start your own thread?? you've got enough work to show!

haljackey, i totally agree, that would look very nice. it would add more realism to the game and that's what i really want!!

ArkenbergeJoe, that's definitely an improvement, looks great! In my opinion, the columns are good, since normal trains would definitely need a good amount of support.

Pinch me, I'm dreaming, I love this! I always had to find a way to cover up the original rail viaduct so I didn't use it too much, but this makes it so much better!

Thank you a million ArkenbergeJoe!

Wow, those look GREAT. I like the gray ones better than the viaduct ones, though... they seem to interlock a bit more.
