  1. Obama orders closure of Guant

so we understand the guy who only wants to kill innocent civilian americans when the government is the ones responsible...then what? sign a truce? this has been declared a gihad or holy war by extremists in the middle east. a holy war has the effect of a genocide...it will only end when the leaders of the gihad are killed, or when all of america is destroyed with no survivors...and i personally have first hand experience in this...i lost a friend who was a firefighter in ny to the 9/11 attacks...

It may or may not work, but someone has to try something if anything will ever be achieved.quote> ummm yeah about that...weren't we at "peace" before September 11th? they committed an unprovoked attack against our country. you really think offering peace will work? don't get me wrong, there is nothing i would love to see more than peace, but to think someone who attacked us unprovoked should be offered peace instead of being dealt with just seems like a bad idea to me. i mean seriously if you're getting pushed around unprovoked at work or school by the bully, and you offer peace, what will they do? laugh in your face, call you weak, and increase the intensity of the attacks because you will not stop it. as for closing gitmo, where are they sending the prisoners? i sure don't want them in my neighborhood or state. maybe alcatraz i would be ok with, but they could still escape (it has happened) and would be in the US already. I don't think i like that idea either on second thought. has obama thought about where he's gonna send them?
  3. Originally posted by: leemonk Hi all, First up..... what a great site!!! Have found some great tips already. I have just found this game at the bottom of my desk draw and I was unable to resist the temptation of inserting it back into my computer and clicking the old 'Install' button............. that was three days ago and with something like just 10 hours sleep since I feel like putting it back into the bottom of the same draw. I've always had problems playing this game as I seem to get to around 30,000 pop and it just stagnates. First of all I guess I should point out that I own the 'raw' version ie. Simcity 4 (no added perks). I am in the process of trying to get my hands on the 'Rush hour' update, but thats proving a little difficult right now. Secondly, I have lost (or EA have) my registration code, I have the code on the manual, but its tells me its not right or that its been used, which is probably correct as it was probably me that used it sometime back. I still have my EA account and can log in, but I can not download anything. So.... that brings me to my first point.quote> i recommend going to walmart and buying the simcity collection...at my walmart it's $30ish. that way you don't have to find rush hour...you'll spend about the same amount to get a copy of rushhour by itself... 1. Are there any major updates/mods that I should have and if so, where can i get them apart from the EA website? Please note, I dont really want 'cheat' mods. I dont mind if they are in there as long as I have the option of not using them. I have a number of further question on game play if someone has the kindness and the patience to read through this ramble and is happy to assist me 8O)quote> get the Network Addon Mod (NAM), Rural Highway (RHW), High Speed Rail Project (HSRP), Street Addon Mod (SAM)...these improve the realism of the game, and improve the traffic simulators...and they are definitely not cheats. 2. I have recently read somewhere (but cant find it now) that you should only use medium and high density after certain levels of population have been acheived. This is news to me as I used to use medium off the bat. So.... if this is correct, can someone please advise of what these levels are and is it then just a case of re-zoning the old lower density zones once the said levels are acheived? (where suitable).quote> this is true...generally i zone low density residential until it is completely covered by mostly medium and high wealth residents. then i upgrade to medium until that is covered. same holds true for commercial and industrial. you don't have to zone an entire city before you can upgrade...generally zone enough low density for 5000 sims...then when that is full, rezone them to medium. farther out zone low density. 3. I always seem to find myself building across three or four maps within the region. I tend to put residential and commerce in one map, farm and high tech indy in another and then dirty industry in another, but almost every commute time is long. Is this the correct style of play or should I have most things in one map?quote> there is no correct style. it all depends on what you're going for. i tend to make mine look like a major city experiencing sprawl. i zone commercial and residential high density in the city center fading to medium density commercial and residential. outside that is often industrial. farther out is more lower density residential and low density commercial to simulate the suburbs. past that i get into the farms. 4. In relation to the above, i tend to link the maps with main roads (not motorways). Is this the best method and do buses transport people from home to work places across the different maps?quote> again there is no right or wrong way, it's all personal preference. i use main roads, avenues (from rush hour), and highways, in addition to subways, and elevated rail (also from rush hour). buses do take people to work, there are a few bugs in the simulator when the bus leaves the city tile, but it does work... 5. I keep reading that I should place bus stops in the direction of travel, I am not sure I understand this, as surely they travel one way to work the same way home, therefore requiring stops almost opposite eachother? and should buses only be used in zones that have red roads on the map?quote> 6. I tend to build in 9x9 zones, as this seems to be the favoured method the game. Assuming that this is okay, where in this should i place the bus stops?quote> in my experience, 6x6 seems to be preferred or 9x6, but i suppose 9x9 would work.. and as for the bus stops, i recommend road top mass transit stations. they only take up road space. make sure to not place them in front of the arrows of the residential zones. 7. In relation to the 9x9 above. I normaly leave the middle of the zone (2x2) free as I place medium garden in the residential areas and medium plaza in the commerical ones. Is this good or is it an expensive way of acheiving things? This coupled with the bus stops then actualy leaves less and less space for buildings.quote> i like the idea of the park or plaza in the middle...i hadn't thought of doing that before...the one negative to it, is that you have a limited size for your buildings. due to the fact that the plaza is in the middle of all the zones which otherwise could be used together to make a larger residence. 8. I saw a list once (though it might have been sim3000) that showed the benefits and negatives of all the parks, presents etc etc. Anyone know where I can get one for this game?quote> maybe the strategy guide, but with all the custom content out there and all the custom content created daily, it isn't likely that you will have a list for everything. if you have anymore questions, feel free to ask...
  4. Prop 8

i think we should just leave it alone...the people voted...TWICE...who cares if you agree or not, this is a democracy. it was put to the people twice and both times, the people voted the same. if you take this vote away from the people, what vote are you going to disallow next? the point is, a line has to be drawn. there has to be a point at which a vote cannot be overturned. otherwise, you risk moving into a dictatorship, tyranny, or communistic society. none of which would come close to benefiting the US. when the people vote, that should stand. it was what our country was built on... and before any of you call me a homophobe, or that i'm a bigot, or that i don't understand, or anything along those lines, realize this: my fiancee's mom and sister are lesbians. one of my closest friends is a lesbian. 2 guys i consider to be my best friends are gay. yes i am straight, but i do understand the issue, i understand the people, and i do feel for them. but when the people vote, it shouldn't be for naught.
  5. small international airport

well this issue should now be fixed. the AC team has released a new set of prefabricated airports that are self upgrading...at a couple of points, you have to add in the runway. but it takes care of the problem very well. there are 9 stages from grass airfield to major international hub airport. it can be found at sc4devotion and features RL airlines.
  6. Black Hawk Down 2

the news here in Dallas/Fort Worth is reporting a rudder failure. not sure about anything other than that's what the news said. the dorm my sis lived in last year was right by where the crash was. apparently there were some corps of cadets drills or something going on and they had to scatter to avoid being under all the debris. idk for sure though...
  7. Abortion

Originally posted by: fukuda Well, that's not a fetus, that's a baby to begin with. So what I said before is not applied in this case.quote> thus was the point...people (not anyone specific) argue that it isn't a baby until a certain point, but the point is we can not definitively determine when that point is...as the little girl i know proves, it could be at 3 and a half months...and definitely at 4...i don't know anyone who had a premature baby before that, but i also don't know anyone with a million dollars...but not having seen or not knowing someone who has experienced one of those, does not mean they don't exist or are not possible. lots of stuff is possible...especially in this age with all the technology we have.
  8. Abortion

i presonally agree with former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani's position on the subject. while i believe a fetus is just as human as someone in a coma, i do not believe it is government's place to regulate abortion in the sense of legal vs. not legal. Giuliani believes the government's responsibility is to educate the nation about it and affect the act through affecting culture...so i am pro-choice in that sense. but i absolutely do not agree with abortion. for those who believe the fetus is not human until the 3rd trimester, i wish i had the chance to introduce you to a little girl i know named madeline matheny. she was born 5-5 1/2 months early...well within the 2nd trimester. she is now a fully functioning 4th grader with no developmental problems other than her being small for her age...but once we're adults, we all come in different shapes and sizes so who will really know? i only have my beliefs to argue that 1st term abortion is bad, but i have proof that 2nd and 3rd trimester abortions are aborting living human beings. i do however believe abortion is ok in regards to the health of the woman. if not aborting the child will kill the woman, then ok, but if she can carry it to term and not die, then i don't think it's cool the other case i believe abortion could be ok is rape. i'm not as enthusiastic though, because it is not the person's fault that they got raped...so there should be no shame. and there are plenty of families who want to adopt. why not let them have the child you don't want. explodingsims said it best for all but the 2 cases i made exceptions for: "Oh yes, and the "It's the woman's choice" argument is pretty flimsy too. Remember, the woman also had the choice to: 1. Have Sex 2. Not use a condom." there's my 50 cents...
  9. 2008 NCAA Football Thread

Texas will have loads of trouble with Tech...Texas ranks 111th in the nation in pass defense...Tech is somewhere in the top 5 in passing offense...so we know the Horns won't be able to stop the Raiders...but what we don't know is will the Raiders be able to stop the Horns?...everyone was talking about Kansas having a pretty stout defense and Tech made it look like there was no one defending them. Everyone was worshipping Kansas' offense...Tech's first team only allowed 14 points...sounds like the Raiders are real and the Horns should be scared...Tech destroyed Kansas on the road...now they get Texas at home...it's gonna be fun!!!
  10. 2008 NCAA Football Thread

yet Tech still receives little respect...the only program in the nation without a losing season for the past 14 years i believe...they pound kansas harder than oklahoma did and OU is still ahead...maybe if we beat Texas, we'll make it up to number 4...
  11. Suburb Zoning?`

1x1 takes a high population to grow...
  12. Is it RHW related?

(NOTE: THIS IS NOT A THREAD INTENDED TO BE ABOUT SC4DEVOTION BEING DOWN) So since SC4Devotion is down, I have been led to wonder about if it might happen to relate to the upcoming release of the new RHW.... I mean there have been teasers coming out a lot lately, and Alex (Tarkus) has been teasing us with hidden messages and such. So that brings me to the poll: is this RHW related? server related? maintenance related? or something else?
  13. The Official 2012 - End of the World Thread

lol...ummm i remember how the world was supposed to end at the beginning of Y2K or the year 2000...did it? haha, NO!!! lol. we stocked up and freaked out over nothing...anyone remember 06/06/06? wasn't the world supposed to end then too? what about 9/9/99? wasn't everything supposed to end then? this type of stuff has been said so many times, that i don't believe any of it...besides...i wouldn't do anything differently...so i see no point in even caring...
  14. Buses as light rail

umm i believe it's somewhere in the omnibus, and you could PM swamper77 as he is one of the best i know of at modding automata... a side note, the NAM has GLR in avenue and the SAM project has some development on GLR in street...
