NAM: Development

If anyone's been wondering what the heck I've been up to, amidst all the radio silence following NAM 47 . . . my initially planned project to add Diagonal T-intersection support to the NWM made me realize there were base Diagonal Ts that still needed to be fixed in order to prep them for NWM support.  And in starting that, I realized that anything I ended up doing involving intersections with the Street network would end up causing chaos with the SAM.

And that then turned into me completely redoing the code for the SAM using @memo's Metarules system, adding support for missing crossings . . . and redoing the textures for some of the sets . . . like SAM 2 (which has been my primary test bed during this project).  Basically . . . I fell into a massive rabbit hole.  Here's some results from it:



(Believe it or not, Diagonal SAM can't cross OWRs at all in the current version.  I've fixed that now)

     I am pleased to announce Version 0.30 of the NAM Tunnel and Slope Mod!     

 

 

Latest changes since version 0.20:

• NEW! NAM DLL Compatibility for Street Tunnels: the street network tuning parameters were modified to enable compatibility with street tunnel functionality introduced by the NAM DLL (found here). When using the NAM tunnel and slope mod, make sure to remove the street slope mod file included in the NAM-dll-supplemental-files folder. The NAM Tunnel and Slope Mod, on its own, does not enable street tunnels!
• NEW! Modified Subway and Water Pipe Depth parameters: the modified parameters enable players to build the Subway and Water Pipe networks regardless of steep changes in topography (ex. cliffs, mountains or canyons), using parameters adapted from the Underground Depth Mod by Thalassicus.
• Minor modification to the Rail and Monorail vertical curvature parameters in the 04 Strict - Flat and the 05 Realistic - Very Flat variants, to facilitate construction of junctions and curves along inclines

 

      Looking forward to more players trying out this slope mod, we want your feedback on how to fine-tune it into its best version!

Finally got started on the second phase of the Mid-block Crosswalks, covering the one-way roads!!

During the last couple of days, I've developed a DLL-based fix for the Eternal Commuter Loop bug.

The fix modifies the Path Finder to ensure that no routes in a city connect the neighboring cities at the North and the West. This restriction applies to every city tile, which ensures that Sims can still travel to any city of the region, but infinite loops cannot form anymore.

My hope is that this will make regional game play more enjoyable. I've successfully tested the behavior with various forms of transport, including ferries. The plan is to integrate the fix into the NAM DLL that's going to be included with NAM 50.
