If you look at the second image, you'll see that it's basically just raytraced reflections. I tried selecting the "thin walled" (for single face objects) but it just ended up being solid black.

Again, I can live with it.

Threw her together overnight. I wasn't feeling too good and couldn't sleep. I'll be doing both DarkNite and Maxis Night versions. Exporting DN now.

Good one but the self illumination texture you use is missing the depth so the effect is not that efficient.

You do realize that now I have to rearrange Vertigo District's Downtown area just so I can get both Hu.Co. and Athen Security Solutions (was about to write in an acronym, but it didn't sound as flattering) in the same place now...

 

Pretty neat little tower though, seems my tower design rubbed of on it 'a bit'

I'm re-designing it a bit. Yes, Huston Co was DEFINITELY an influence, but I think it does look just a bit TOO much like HuCo. Athena Security Solutions (lol dat acronym tho!) will now have a black and blue theme. ('cause.. you know, they'll beat you black and blue). 


I was also very unhappy with the night time windows, so I'm redoing them completely. In the meantime, here's a day view!

Wow, I think we've been longing for a midrise like this and finally will get one! I especially love that helicopter, which makes it a real helipad.

Well, unfortunately after four failed attempts, 3DS max continues to crash while exporting after finishing the zoom 5 set of renders. I think I've isolated the problem; the blinds generating script I use. It's the only significant change I've made. I also think this may have been the problem I had with the Greystone Tower. I'm going to create blinds a different way, and there should be no noticeable differences. We shall see how this works! I'll keep you updated.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed! Good to read that you managed to isolate the problem, and I'm sure you'll find a workaround. I like the simple black box design, and as Toothless Stitch said, it should become a staple of any self-respecting CBD - not as the cherry on top, but as an important part of the cake.

Success! That's what the problem was! I'm going to try and finish up the night view this evening, and export both Maxis and DarkNite versions. Then I'll move back to the Greystone Tower and work from there! Again, I'll keep you updated!
