Soooo...it's not a beta, but a demo, and a very limited one at that! (if this is true)

That hour better not force you into a tutorial

Also, the beta should end with all of the disasters destroying what you had built, like the SimCity 2000 demo.

This is such a joke. I can't believe they're trying to call a 1hr marketing demo a "beta test" ... :uhm:

Disheartening since we were told the beta wouldn't just be a marketing beta, and this is even worse than that...

So, we would have up to 1 hour of play as many times as we want, but the game would only be accessible for 1 weekend?

Despite the fact that this is a marketing demo, I'm still very interested! I mainly want to see if the game will even run on my PC.

Also, I guess I don't entirely understand why we regisered for the Beta last year, if now it's open to everyone, and we have to register again?

Wait, do we have to sign up again?

I don't see why you would....

Even if this 1-hour beta is practically a scam, I'm still excited.

Same here. I'm excited to play the game, watch the simulation and review the UI. But most importantly, I want to see how the game runs on my PC.

Also, is everyone who signed up guaranteed a spot in the beta?

When we play the beta on januari 25-28. Is it legal to put down video`s of our let`s plays on youtube. Or will it be taken down.

In other words: can we expect a big load of let`s plays on the webs to keep us occupied till launch?

No you are not allowed to post lets play videos. If you do you violate the terms of the Beta, and can be banned from Origin, and SimCity itself when it actually comes out.

Here is a copy/paste of the Closed Beta FAQ for anyone that hasn't seen it:

The SimCity beta is rapidly approaching and we know many of you have tons of questions. Fortunately, we have the answers. Below you’ll find the FAQ for the SimCity closed beta:

Q: How long does the beta run?

A: The beta is open from Friday January 25 9AM PST to Monday January 28 12:01AM PST.

Q: I want to be part of the beta, what can I do to get in?

A: We are accepting applicants at www.simcity.com/beta until 6PM PST on Sunday, January 20.

Registration now closed

Q: I registered for the beta, when will I receive my code?

A: You will know by Friday, January 25 if you have been selected for the beta. If you have been selected, you will receive an email with your unique redemption code and instructions how to join the beta. We want to get as many fans into the beta as possible, but we can only invite a small group of fans to participate.

Q: What’s new in this SimCity?

A: SimCity delivers unprecedented depth of simulation with the new GlassBox Engine, where everything is simulated, from up to 100,000 individual Sims in a city, to every Kilowatt of power pulsing through a region of cities. The model-like world and detail of the simulation make this the most responsive and personal SimCity ever. This is also the most expansive city management game yet where multi-city gameplay across regions delivers a larger playing field. Play a single city or up to 16 cities at once each with different specializations, it’s your choice.

Multiplayer is also a first for the series, adding a new dimension to the game, as decisions impact both the city and the region, creating new ways to play by collaborating or competing to earn achievements. Finally, SimCity is a live service that simulates real-time updates and pushes them to players in the form of new challenges. Through this platform, Maxis is also able to provide a continuous stream of new gameplay features and content. Whether you play by yourself, with your friends or the rest of the world, SimCity introduces an infinite world of possibilities.

Q: What’s in the beta?

A: Here’s the answer straight from Lead Producer Kip Katsarelis: The Closed Beta is an important step for us as we approach our launch date for SimCity. We’ve crafted a one hour replayable experience that will let you enjoy the magic of the game and allow us to test critical features. Everyone will go through our “Getting Started Scenario”, which takes you through the basics of how to play the game and gives you a sneak peak at some late game content. After that, you’re free to start your own city and play for one hour. We’ve given you all the tools to build up a medium density city, given access to the Casino Big Business, all of the basic services, loads of public transportation options, and several options on how you can power your city. You can start up as many cities as you like during the 3 Day event. We encourage you to try to build different types of cities, explore the leaderboards and try to beat the Global Challenge! By putting these features through a rigorous test, you’re doing us a huge service. Your feedback will go directly to the Development Team and make an impact on future updates. By playing the game you’ll be testing our online servers, helping ensure a smooth launch.

Q: What languages does the beta support?

A: While the full game will support multiple languages, the beta is English only.

Q: Is there a Mac beta client?

A: No, this beta is exclusively for PC users.

My Translation:

Hi, it feels like it is impossible to get a beta key. Dan tweets [one] and 2 seconds later the code is already used, so I have no choice but to get beta [or: play the game] until the game is out. I was wondering why beta isn't for people who have pre-ordered it?

CYlVe5M.jpg

It says that the game "hasn't been published yet" and obviously i can't download it but.... I'm not sure, i didn't know this wasn't supposed to happen until friday :uhm:

I think it's a bad idea to basically drop the beta on people on Friday if what you're saying is true. Because then you're making everyone download it on the same day instead of spreading the load out over the entire week.

To be honest, the downloading of the beta is going to be a pain for people like me that have to live with data caps. :/
