The developers and art director's sure like the colour orange.

For sure.

I think it's fair to say they like bricks. And Western architecture. Which I personally think to be a bit ugly for the most part.

The developments and screenshots looks pretty good. But from what I can tell there's not much cultural diversity in the architecture. It's too bad the only bit of that I can remember was the bonus package from pre-ordering the $80 version on Origin.

I've gone through all the screenshots in this topic and I like what I see.

Now I just have to wait almost 2 months before I can play and discover the new SC myself.

Reading the comments, I agree with the fact that either the cars are too big, or the roads are too small. I'd like this getting fixed. What I like is the diversity, different types of roads, avenues, etc, being able to start with a small electricity plant and slowly expanding it, following the needs of my city/town. I am sure there is more to come. SC4 Rush Hour also brought us a lot, so for sure for SC 2013 there will be expansion pack(s).

I'd like to see this city zoomed out in relation to its "suburbs"

I always wanted to know when the next preview features a llama (or an alpaca or a vicuna or any other South American camelid). It is not Maxis without a llama somewhere.

.First off I think we should stop complaining, If were honest with ourselves we have more than enough to be thankful of in simcity4, with all the great mods and addons it has become a great and thoroughly enjoyable city builder that has kept us entertained for many years.

I do not hope the new simcity fails, in fact I have made a bet to myself knowing that it will most probably fail because if im honest it looks terrible, the buildings look like pimples and google earth 3d models sticking out of a bland boring landscape and the gameplay seems to be The Sims all over again, But they are a company and they need to make money, they feel setting their target market for 9 year olds will perhaps help sales and maybe it will, good for them. We cannot change the decision that has been made by maxis and we ourselves sound like 9 year olds complaining about not getting what we want, we have what we want We...have SIMCITY 4!! and I am proud of maxis and all the modders who have shaped it into the way us old veteran simcitiers like it. long live SC4

perhaps and I hope one day they will give simcity 5 to the community and let it roam free DRM free so we can actually use mods without everyone else having to use the same mods to "participate" in your city. And who knows perhaps it could make history because I see potential, just not in this space in time.

Here you can see a beautiful tree growing in the middle of the road.

I love the sparse look of the grass around the factories. It seems appropriate (versus a neatly trimmed, perfectly green manicured lawn).

Quote of the century above. xD

I'm going to force myself to live with the new Simcity some way or another, but it would just be SO much easier to live with if cities could have suburbs. They've done some great things to regions with the new game, but only because of the spread-out city tiles, regions are much worse than SC4. Its a shame that something that small is going to ruin region gameplay, but it will.

On the bright side, I do like that screenshot very much. It reminds me of all of the brown buildings in SC4, and we haven't seen any slums in the new game yet.

Yes, can you imagine if we could have the cities that look like they do in some of these screenshots and be able to build regional transportation and connected suburbs? that would be awesome!

The SS is of low wealth high density buildings, it was a high populace city by one of the dev team, it's ~750,000 population.

It is amazing how much a person can tear apart , over analyze, and promise the worse with a game they have not even played... or seen played.

Someone can't upload a picture of a early build beta screwing off with different game settings or techniques to exploit or just have fun without people crying.

Jeez...

I think these latest screenshots are looking much better. The buildings that shouldn't have set backs don't seem to have set backs, and the buildings that should have setbacks seem to have them.

The colors seem to be getting tweaked too, although as it's been pointed out, almost all of the buildings are orangish brown for some reason lol.

And Western architecture. Which I personally think to be a bit ugly for the most part.

I'm guessing you mean American architecture and not Western architecture, since western architecture includes the architecture of Europe plus all of its colonies and most architecture since globalization (pretty much all architecture you'd associate with a modern city).

But I think they have to stick to American looking architecture because as it is they'll only have enough time to make a certain number of buildings. Otherwise I don't think they'd have enough time to make full building sets for a bunch of different types of buildings.

Yeah, that's what I meant, actually.

Besides the mentioned almost monochrome palette, it also bothers me in this pic that there are avenues everywhere - for no apparent reason. There's jst two 14-storey apartment buildings filling the width of the block, and yet there's another avenue between those and the other block. Weird.

My guess is that is a result of the design decision to tie zoning to road types.

They've said that narrow four lane roads can also support high densities, so this would just be the player's preference.

Would be nicer if single lane one-way streets can support high density...like in my hometown.

For that to happen we would have to have single lane roads and one way streets in this game, which we don't have, so far as Maxis has told us. Honestly, I really like the look of the game right now, as far as the aesthetics of the cities themselves. It's somewhat reminiscent of SC3K but with a modern sheen to it. I only wish that the region could be made to look more like a proper conurbation, for immersion purposes.

I like the recent screenshots more and more.

It looks like the Summer is ending, since the trees have brown leaves already.

Its clearly been photo shopped for that colour though. You can tell that gave it an autumn tint to it >.>
