Calling all Artists!

Hello Everyone!

Our MOTM/EOTM banner artwork is great, but it's getting a bit stale... we are now on our third round using the same banners. I tried my best to come up with something fresh, but...

This is awful in every way. It doesn't even use proper phrasing :\

I just don't have the skills. So we're asking you, the community, to come up with our new banners. We need one for this May, and then every month afterwards... including next year if you want to go that far.

As far as what the banners should look like, each banner must measure 500x200, and must have a matching 150x112 banner to be used in the news item on the Homepage. The larger banner must include the text "Member of the Month [Month Name]". The smaller one can just display the month. The rest is up to you, but we ask that you theme the banner with something associated with the month in question. This "something" can be regionally known, or known worldwide (just don't make it too obscure... we want people to 'get it').

We will leave this thread open for as long as people care to contribute to it. Each month we will select a banner and it's author will be credited in the awards ceremony, and will receive a small prize.

It'll be interesting to see what people come up with, we had some great designs for the last few years, now it'll be good seeing what the community comes up with.

I have a suspicion that people might be shy about posting their artwork here, in case someone else's is chosen.

So, here is an option: If you have artwork you wish to submit, send a link to MOTM_Inbox. That way no one else will know that you submitted anything.

Don't be shy people. All entries are welcome. Although ones like Kevin's will not be used.

I think motm can have something better than Stock with text on it. Look at Porter, his photo editing/PS skills are immense, maybe ask him?

I forgot to scale these to 5:2, and I added in the usernames which I am apparently not supposed to, so this is just more-or-less a showcase of my weak PS skills. I'll be sure to scale all of the future ones if you want to use my work.

All of the above look good It would have been great to see some more that fit the specifications in terms of size, and then we could have had discussions on how to improve on them.

This is my submission. I didn't really have much time to do these, so they aren't exactly what I had pictured in my head, but good enough for half an hours work.

I don't normally go down the flower route, its not really my thing, but for these images I chose that because of a couple of reasons. Firstly, I wanted a green background, gold text, colours that are usually associated with the month May. Also, there are various flowers associated with each month. This is may's flower, lily of the valley.

I hope we get to see a few more submissions in the next few days, I like seeing other peoples take on these images. Remember may is almost over, and we will need the images ready for the ceremony!

Looking forward to seeing what people come up with this month. Post what your designing early so we can discuss them, and give feedback for you to make them even better than they are now

Also, it's really cool to see people's design style, everyone is unique, and what people design with the same brief is really interesting and says a lot about who they are.

Remember to supply images in both sizes too. They are both needed as one goes in the thread, and one on the news reel on the homepage. See frex's images on how to keep the same style on a smaller image.

Here is my contribution. I probably should have gone for a later month as I see some nice submissions already for August. Also, I had already created the banners when I remembered it is supposed to have a theme relevant to the month. Just as well since I can not think of a theme for August except HOT North of the equator and probably cold to the South.

Anyway, I enjoyed making the banners and will hopefully submit another for a different month in the future. Thanks.

First of all, I think this is a great way to creatively involve the community. Some very impressive banners so far!

It's a bit late, but here is my submission for October. I took the picture last week, while visiting Derbyshire on a nice autumn day. The theme represents the transition between autumn and winter here in the northern hemisphere.

It was a pleasure to make them, and I'm looking forward to doing some more for the coming months. Hopefully it snows, and there are opportunities for some good winter themed pictures.
