interesting that the requests being made are for essentially generic residential buildings and not landmarks...I guess that it shows that Simcity really lacked good, believable residencials...also, without sounding too harsh, with a bit of learning and investment of time, those requesting such buildings could possibly make them themsleves?? Great work Jason, another classy BAT in the

In my case I'd rather say A LOT of investment of time and learning..I even thought about taking a 3D modelling class at the university, which shows how passionate I am about SC4. Still, I never managed to master 3d modelling softwares (even sketchup). Even with the best will in the world it can really take some time to achieve something. I remember Darknono's buildings were made by converting sketchup models into SC4 models and then he learned how to master 3dsmax within a few months and produce some top quality content. In my case after almost 10 years I'm still not able to model something properly on sketchup, despite all the great tutorials that are available online.

I think it really depends on how you work and how you learn. It's a little bit like learning a language. Some people can easily learn by reading some ''how-to-learn-a-language-in-one-month'' book, others can learn it by travelling and having interactions with the locals, and others will really need to take classes for a considerable amount of time. My point is, we all learn differently and at a different pace. It took me more than 5 years to learn how to properly master the Lot Editor, which is far from being the most difficult tool for SC4. I'm not the kind of guy that can effectively learn by looking at a tutorial.

    Thanks everyone. :)

Cool_Z: yep :) I started out by taking google street view screenshots, and google earth measurements, and combining them and overlaying a grid in photoshop so that I could measure the dimensions of the facade. Then I made a plane of the right dimension, added in lines where they should be, and then extruded inward and outward and did other poly modeling to model the facade.

gutterclub: There are also some more "landmark" sort of buildings coming up too. :)

vlasky: They're nice and simple. :) The main facades are easy to make, it's the base and other details that take time.

Girafe: The person who requested them is a member on Simtropolis and has been commenting in this thread, but I'll leave it up to him to identify himself if he wants to. He already sort of has.

It's mostly done, and if I put in a good day of work tomorrow I think I can finish it for tomorrow night. :) Just some more modeling and textures. We'll see though. :)

Ok, lest you think I'm a complete dogebag, some actual feedback: I like the shape and size of this building; it's a very good request IMO! There's enough interesting detail to look at, but the building is still very generic and can be used in a wide variety of scenarios. It could be located in Brazil, in Canada, in Indonesia or in France. The car park at the base is an interesting touch, too, although it probably doesn't benefit street life. Oh well, our Sims don't care anyway...

Maybe a few details on some of the balconies would add that certain "lived-in" touch? Otherwise, I'm perfectly happy with this building (and I can't help thinking that variations with yellow, red, brown, grey, or green balcony colours would be great... ;) ).
