    Hey Simtropolis members! 1.gif

its been again, a while since i posted here, however at least i made it this time, and i got some goodies for you today. I remember posting this thread and didn't expect it to go very far, however it looks like its one of the more popular threads with many views and pictures.

I may not post that much, but as I always say... quality over quantity! So here is some new pictures of my suburbs which where taken today. There still remains some glitches and more work on the road textures and models needs to be done, however its a good start.

We already know that there is a cul-de-sac mod for SimCity, however for me it didn’t suite my needs and left more to be desired. So after some careful work, and taking note of my previous attempts to create workable cul-de-sac lots, i finally created it. I also created a new corner street piece and custom lots for it.

The models are to scale with real life buildings and the buildings are in fact created from real life building plans. I already know it doesn’t match the rest of the maxis buildings, however i like my buildings to scale.

I do realise also that the texture darkness for the toad may be too dark, that is something i would work for in the second release. Here is an overall shot of what is going on.

    Urbanz_Project_FP_1A.jpg

As you may have imagined, it took lots of planning, organizing and rendering to make the cul-de-sac models work, it took over 2 days to get everything worked out. On to the second picture, a closer inspection of the area:

    Urbanz_Project_FP_1B.jpg

Here is a “crescent” configuration of a neighbourhood, which is popular here in Alberta suburbs like Edmonton and Calgary. Some work will have to be done to get these textures to functional work in the game, and the CDS and BC lots will probably will remain as plopables only.

    Urbanz_Project_FP_1D.jpg

This picture is a close zoom of the cul-de-sac section, this lot would be nearly imposable to make functional since it has irregular lot configurations.

    Urbanz_Project_FP_1E.jpg

Now here is a zoomed out picture showing the extent of how the new textures and look like. I think they look much nicer than the default maxis lots.

    Urbanz_Project_FP_1C.jpg

Last but not least... here is the what the alternative looks like, its boring and not very realistic. 23.gif

    Urbanz_Project_FP_1.jpg

I would lieke to mention that these textures still need work, and there is doubts as whether or not some of these lots would work with the game, however its worth a shot, and that is what i will be doing.

Thanks for reading, please drop a reply for comments or suggestions 1.gif

Now those are some awesome suburbs! I love how the houses curve around the cul-de-sac. I hope you release these in the future!

Wow those suburbs are quite something. It really shows you put a lot of work into it. But yes, I do agree lighter street textures would make it even better. Great job and can't wait to see more.

    Hey SimTropolis members!

I got some more pics, and as expected i am working on additional pieces and eventually the roads will be lightened up for a possible future release with my first Urbanz Project pack. In the meantime, here is a new road piece.

    Close up shot,

    Urbanz_Project_FP_1G.jpg

    And an overall shot,

    Urbanz_Project_FP_1F.jpg

I'm probably going to stop placing updates here unless i got good overall shots of a city.

Just off of I-36 and a ways East of Cadillac sits the suburb of Clinton. Clinton has grown rapidly over the last few years. In the upper-right corner you can even see a few new stripmalls that have popped up recently.

    Clinton-Apr4301232676616.jpg

Taryn St. one of the main routes through town has developed traffic problems due to the growth, but being in an older neighborhood there is little room to expand it. The Redwood Apartment Building (the tall skinny building) is slated to be torn down soon and replaced with a more modern, more expensive building. Lately many executives have chosen to move further from Cadillac than they have in the past.

    Clinton-Feb23301232676260.jpg

Just South of the last shot, you'll find Springsteen Elementary School. Clinton is known for it's school system and this is one of the primary reasons that it is growing faster than any of the other area suburbs.

This is a picture of a small spot full of the same style houses, it's not the most impressive but I think it looks nice.
