wouanagaine - Thank you!  If possible, I let the buildings grow on their own and when something I like grows, I make it historical.  I try to only plop if the building is only ploppable or if it is taking to long to grow what I want!

There are actually alot of BATs available on the STEX to use to make some really nice suburban sprawl!

seemurray, that is so realistic. Reminds me of an area called the Galeria down in southern Houston. Truly awesome!

Love Urban Sprawl! My regions grow and then most of the region is covered with urban and suburban sprawl.

Ok this is a regional shot but closed ups can be seen in my CJ

Solaria-withDRT.jpg

Solaria and she is still consuming ever more and more land as it grows outwards away from the core into suburbia.

Great job, but not as much population as I would have thought for all those skyscrapers.

i find that making sprawl is boring and time-consuming.. but i do it anyway and i like the end result. Sprawl-it's just too alike for my taste

Sprawl to me is very challenging and very rewarding when it works right, and believe me that is hard when 2 of your cities are 70 years old and the others not that old at all. Done right it can be considered an art or science depending on one's view point.

2.7 million might not seem alot but it is still a fair whack when your largest cities are 900k, 655k, 550k and 450k and still growing.

Anycase I am about to go westwards and open up another large city tile and most likely get 500,000 more there.

I get through my sprawl by trying to give each area its own unique personality and little history. Like, this one neighborhood is a quite bedroom community with good schools happy middle class sims, while another one might be the center of a small suburban town, complete with a main street and civic buildings, while another might be a major shopping areas full of strip malls. I don't I think its interesting trying to recreate real life urban sprawl. Not that theres anything wrong with building a skyscraper forest every now and again!

Here's a satellite photo I created for my city the other day. You can see the city's dense core and the urban and suburban sprawl extending out. Also major highways and bridges can be seen.
