Some really great cities in here so far! Current area view of my city based on Cedar Rapids, Iowa. I tried to follow the basic road and rail layout of the city, but the map scale isn't right so it breaks down fairly quickly once you leave the city center. I made the map using terrain.party before they had got the vertical scale figured out, so its a bit hillier than the real life Cedar Rapids.

For those who watched Let's Plays - What did you think?
UnkleS27 replied to Azurespecter's topic in Cities: Skylines General Discussion
I watched quite a bit of Quill18's stream throughout the day, and for the most part was really impressed with what I saw. The game looks like it runs really well and should be a lot of fun to play. I'm really excited to try some of my ideas, and especially excited to mess around in the terrain editor. I wasn't really a fan of the Deathcare concept. It doesn't seem to add much but can have a hugely negative impact if managed incorrectly. Maybe Quill just designed them poorly but they had a big impact on his city several times. The curved road tool also looked a little difficult to manage, but that could be due to rushing through building them to keep the stream moving. Freight looks like the biggest factor in traffic, and I'm looking forward to trying to design an efficient road/rail network to handle it. Definitely appreciate you guys showing the game off a bit early and working with the community throughout the process. -
water.... not a drop to drink

I like how in the "Vanity Mayor" tv spot they had he mentions putting the sewage plant next to the water supply as if it is a terrible idea. Turns out it pretty much the only way to keep water flowing to your city. -
Grid Cities impractical?
UnkleS27 replied to Californiaz's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
I feel like left turn singals at lights would clear up most of the traffic problems people are having... Also, I try to limit intersections on my main roads as much as possible since it is the intersections that cause all of the issues. -
that is gorgeous!

Oakwood, Sunny Hollow & The Bypasses!

Looks like its grown quite a bit since your first entry. I like City Gate Park, good placement with the roundabout. -
Really awesome work. I love how well it all fit together, looks very natural.

I get through my sprawl by trying to give each area its own unique personality and little history. Like, this one neighborhood is a quite bedroom community with good schools happy middle class sims, while another one might be the center of a small suburban town, complete with a main street and civic buildings, while another might be a major shopping areas full of strip malls. I don't I think its interesting trying to recreate real life urban sprawl. Not that theres anything wrong with building a skyscraper forest every now and again!

neongamer: I like your course, the blue trees are kind of odd 6/10 TheSixCents: looks really good, I'll give you a 9/10 CarmineHilton: the building looks good, but there are some grass textures by your avenue that look out of place. 8/10 Here's one of mine

It looks pretty good, you've got great harbors. One suggestion though, you should try to make the roads a little more irregular, not too many cities in new england are based off of a grid. Otherwise, it looks great!
