selles, that's insane! You're probably the best "suburber" of all simcity 4 players! You HAVE TO show us more region shots of that first region.

you guys have inspired me to make some suburbs! 4.gif I like making gated communities, it's fun, but the only problem is you can't really make all of the houses that look similar grow next to eachother. I wish you could choose what grows where. 15.gif

What I ususally do to create cookie cutter housing is utulize controlled development.  To put it simple, keep on buldozing until you get the one house you want.  However, demand should be high or you just get a green zone for awhile after the house is demolished.

Cheers.

And a nighshot which shows the quietness of the suburbs:suburbs5tx3.jpg

Even early in the morning, the suburbs are quite busy although the commute time is under 30 minutes:

dang, those are some cool suburbs everyone!

I've been playing around with urban suburbs, and have been trying out 1X3 lots lately. Please tell my what you think of these:

I don't want to give too much advice that is de-constructive but I will give you some tips.  No obligations to use them.

The photoshop effects are cool but there seems to be no reason for the effect on every picture.  If your going for 1x3 lots for residential try to keep the open spaces out behind; it looks too spaced out.  I mean this is all your personal preference.  Try using maybe shadow assains cycleway.  That would look excellent behind houses.  That is if your going for a high wealth suburb.  Other than that, way to go.  Your lakefront/beachfront properties look promising.  I can't wait to see some more updates as your progress.

Cheers.

Thanks for the feedback Rusty!

I used the effects on these pictures to sort of set the mood. In most cases I don't use them, so I will probably refrain from them (except in my CJ). Usually I use 1X1 lots, but when studying some of the Los Angeles neighborhoods and how everything is spaced out, I thought this would be slightly more realistic. However the houses aren't scaled right so everything looks a lot denser...

But I do agree, maybe something else behind those houses would look better!

Here is a bedroom community taken from a new, loosely California based region. It's not much; just testing out the new terrain mod.

This terrain mod looks great. Especially with those suburbs. They're excellent. Keep it up city2themax

Cheers.

La Rue is a middle to upper class suburb Southeastern of Renault. Although the town has a small downtown, most residents shop and eat at the large shopping centers along State Route 3.  (see my CJ for more!)

Thanks Rusty!

Here is a brand new suburb, Los Riveras, that is part of the San Luis / Point Bay metro area; part of another region.

I'll likely be adding my own soon.

Anyway, post your high-density, walkable & transit-friendly shopping districts with all sorts of fancy shops (like goofyguytpa's lots), These can be in your big city neighborhoods or your big city downtown areas.

BTW, although welcomed, I'm really looking for shopping districts without storefront parking (like you would see in Europe or NYC, Chicago, etc.)

Thanks guys!

Tia-may: Well I had a mild sunset in that picture, but decided to make it more dramatic so I filtered it.

Interesting districts. I notice that one of the images is very red. Is this the sunset really like that in your city or a photo filter?

Hi,

I think there is one thing, that is difficult to imitate with SC4, that is urban sprawl.

Everytime I try to make an avenue lined with low density RCI, some big buildings appear and spoil my beautiful scenery38.gif.

Furthermore STEX still lacks typical sprawler buildings such as gas stations, dry cleaners, drive-in-restaurants, spare parts shops, truck dealerships...well look out of your window in suburbia to see whats still missing.

I´d like to see some good examples of urban sprawl along highways and avenues!48.gif

I think most people like their cities to become comercial powerhouses like NYC Chicago or HK.

Another 'Show us...' thread... which does not start according to the rules! Show us your example, please.

Some people managed to build beautiful and realistic sprawling suburbs. They'll probably show them. My suburbs tend to bit a bit denser than usual suburbs.

i tried to create an L.A-style city with all low density(except for ind and downtown) and artery-type highways. its really difficult in SC4, especially in managing police, hosp, schools and all of dat stuff

Simmax is right, an example is needed.

With SC4, it's kinda hard to have true Urban Sprawl with a centralized downtown, due to commute time problems.

Wow thats amazing DuskTrooper. How did you get the region so large? (Or does it just look large)

Mikie: Love your mountains, the small cities/towns fit right in.
