The Official City Journal Critics Thread Archive

The_Hutt >> To get your SimCity to run at the widescreen resolution of your monitor just right-click the shortcut to SC4 and go to Properties. Then where it says Target put in: "C:\Program Files\Maxis\SimCity 4 Deluxe\Apps\SimCity 4.exe" -CustomResolution:enabled -r1280x800 of course you'll need to put the location of your SimCity install if it's different, and you'll need to put in whatever the native resolution of your LCD is, mine is a 15.4" notebook at 1280x800. Most 19" - 20" LCDs are 1440x900, larger ones will generally be either 1680x1050 or 1920x1200. Check the documentation or search online for your LCD. -

Hey guys. I would be happy to have my CJ reviewed here whenever you feel it's ready. Link is in the sig. -
Hi everyone. I'm feeling kinda uninspired as to what to make the next update about, so I thought I'd open it up to the community. Tell me where you want to see Owens Island go from here, what aspects you'd like to see more of, or any other suggestions on what to show for the next update. Thanks!

I have searched STEX for Denver, all it comes up with is the Children's Hospital no other buildings, searching the building names gets no results either.

Got another update coming soon, installed a terrain pack and forgot some dependencies. Been wondering why my SC4 was crashing to desktop whenever I went to load a city . . . Anyways, got it fixed so I'm working on the update . Should have it by tomorrow night my time.
-
Does anyone know where to find some Denver buildings, or if not does anyone with 3d modeling skill want to help me make some Denver buildings. EDIT: Perhaps this should go in BAT Open Discussion . . . and perhaps I should pay more attention to where I post . . . If a mod would like to move it, feel free. If anyone's interested I'd like to start with Republic Plaza, at 370 17th Street, and the tallest building in Denver, Colorado, and the Rocky Mountain states.

Yes, like what you'd see in a dense urban area usually. Oh and nice avatar pic Godzillaman.

Finally able to post the update, wasn't able to do it two nights ago then last night ST wouldn't let me on all night. Anyways, here's the update: History of Owens Island - Part Four South of Owens Mines you'll find Owensport. These pictures depict Owensport as it looked in 1926, same year as the previous update's shots of Owens Mines. At that time the city consisted only of the port facility and a rail depot. An overview of the docks. The Owensport freight depot. Coal was a major product of Owens Island's mining industry: Coal staged at the docks awaiting loading. One of the large coal bulkers being launched on its maiden voyage at the Owensport docks. Another bulker sailing into port for a full load of coal. As you can see, mining and its related industries played a major part in the history of Owens Island. But will things stay that way on Owens Island or is the old way of things here destined to change . . .

My SC4 seems to have the same problem, and it seems to be directly related to the number/type of plugins or mods you are running since it didn't do it on a clean install. And agreed on the AMD/Intel flame wars. AMD Athlon/Turion 64 X2 and Intel Pentium Dual Core/Core 2 Duo will each perform equally well on the typical desktop or notebook PC. Also AMD's built-in memory controller seems to give it an edge in performance on the high end as well, although I haven't compared Phenom and Core 2 Quad/Core 2 Extreme as yet. I also agree that Intel chips tend to be vastly overpriced on the high end.

Problems Saving the game
bwebster82 replied to Daniel.Drache's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
My games take about 1 to 5 minutes to save depending on city size and population -
Working on the next update, hope to have some pictures and history of the harbor ready for your viewing pleasure this evening. and one REPLY: Welcome back RushHourFreak. Thanks for visiting Owens Island again and look forward to your visits in the future.

Agreed with the above posts, the region shot looks impressive, and the facts on Tokyo are definitely interesting. Looking forward to seeing the closeup shots of the cities themselves.

Nicely done CJ, love the editing on your pics, and a beautiful city too. Very inspiring, I hope to make such a nice looking city someday too.

History of Owens Island - Part Three Here's some more pictures I've pulled out of the Owens Island archives, and the history behind them. These photos show how the town has grown in the five years since the opening of the power generating station. It seems that the same careless coffee-loving archivist must have handled these photos as well. The IMS Company has built a new steel mill complex along with a large freight depot to process and move all of the metals and coal from the mines. The new steel mill complex and rail depot. The town has been redesigned with a new downtown incorporating the first school and library, a police station and fire station, and a passenger rail station, as well as shops, offices, and restaurants. The residential population is booming as well. Row houses for the mine and mill workers as well as middle and upper class homes for management have been built surrounding downtown. An overview of the town east of the steel mill. A shot of the new downtown area. A shot of some of the residential development.
