There's been a few. Could be when I found a live caterpillar in my burger, or when my girlfriend and I went to a restaurant and the waiter got really offended when she didn't finish her meal and practically insisted that she should finish it off. I dine out heaps so there's many more.

What should I get my girlfriend for her birthday. It's May the 1st and I'm stuck for ideas!

Depends on her tastes.  My suggestion is talk with her, listen to her needs/desires and the get something that fulfills that need or desire.  Show that you actually listen and care.

What is the best gift you have ever gotten?

Best tangible gift? Probably a poster-like thing for displaying the 50 state quarters; from my uncle. It's hard for me to get things that last for that long; they get replaced every few years. Best abstract gift? The gift of life...?

Other end of the spectrum: worst gift you've gotten?

I once dated this girl before I went to college who was hotter than the girl I dated just before her (they were pretty good friends with each other, heh heh).  But she wasn't thoughtful and after I gave her quite a nice gift for Christmas (which I've long since forgotten, we're talking almost 15 years ago), she gave me two sale-rack t-shirts for my birthday.  sigh.

The girl I married, I kinda had a feeling it was gonna work out the second year we were together.  We both got each other Christmas presents, and we were both very proud of what we had picked out.  So proud, in fact, that we couldn't wait until Christmas to give them to each other and we ended up opening them about a week early.  My wife opened hers first and started laughing, like almost hysterically.  I was like, "Why??" and she gave me my gift, which ended up being the same exact thing: a Gameboy Advance.  That's a much better story than the crappy t-shirts I got from an ex, but hey, that's why one's my wife and the other's not.

What's the best gift you've ever given?

    I hate shopping.

What is the longest you have had to travel to get to your destination?

Longest distance I can remember: 12+ hours, 500+ miles; from where I lived at the time in southern California to Santa Clara, California. There was a similar trip from San Diego to San Francisco, but I don't remember it (I was about 2-3 and I only have videotapes to rely on) but it probably took about as long.

Speaking of California, you ever seen the Golden Gate Bridge in person?

Been across it several times and walked on it once. I grew up in San Jose and visited San Francisco a lot, but now i'm an ex-Bay Area resident living near freaking Sacramento where the heat is just awful..

Is it warmer or cooler where you live?

Summer. I came from an unbelievably hot country called Philippines but I would rather choose that than the -30C temperatures of Winnipeg.

What was the worst restaurant you've been to?

Actually I do like SC4 music.  Sometimes I will just listen to it without actually playing the game.

Are there any vacation spots you would recommend (preferably low key and not crowded)?

Michigan's Upper Peninsula, or any of the Great Lakes lakeshores, but the UP is the best, a vast, unspoiled wilderness.  There are tourists, but not anything like Florida or Chicago or something.

What's the worst game you've ever played?

"If you try to please everybody, you often times end up pleasing nobody, especially yourself. When somebody offers to do a favor for free, like making a mod for SimCity 4, you shouldn't be overly critical of something generously given to you. In other words, you shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth." - Twilight Sparkle after playing SimCity

PS: I just spent a week in eastern North Carolina. There's plenty of low key things around there and there's always the beach as well.

Actually I have several fossils that I have found (I found 3 just this last weekend).  Mostly shells and other sea creatures, and one ammonite.

What is your favorite scientific field of study?

P.S.  thanks for the vacation tips NMUSpidey and Shulmanator.

Junk science!  I couldn't write my super-hero dramas without it!  Hahahah!  Just kidding.  Probably astronomy, so long as someone's showing me cool pictures and I don't have to do so much math.  I'm more of a humanities kind of guy.

Speaking of, what's your favorite subject in the humanities (ie history, English/other language, law, art, philosophy, religion, etc)?

I speak German. I use it fairly regularly but not very deeply, but I speak it well.

If you had a five day compulsory trip to North Korea, what would you do there?
