Aaron: thanks very much I know it has taken me forever :) I choose the restaurant because of it's out of the ordinary shape I wanted to do something different (I even tried to made it out of one object).

Heblem: Of course that I have your model! I made the changes to the sign as, taller and narrower

Jasoncw: Yes I made it less subtle but still not enough (no smoothing groups selected), I will detach each panel and assign individual textures.

Girafe: Thanks very much, yes I know the trees are not very accurate, if you can help me or enlighten me on this I will appreciate it I know the ones next to the building are "jacarandas" the one in the patio are of different species...side

    patio

    not the best pictures..

Gutter club: yes good old Vips! The sign looks much better now...

I will show some picture once I make some more progress.

Glad to know you are making your model out of one object, you will notice a lot about the scene not laging when you start making highrises like this and not have millons of objects. :D I have done the same with the Park Towers Apartments and the Beekman Hotel Tower. :D

    I fix my sentence. :P

Nice to see another VIPS coming up, I like the shape of it and I'm waiting to see some pics about the roof :)

There are 2 VIPS in my city, Xalapa, I was thinking of batting them but I don't have the time right now.

By the way, Biblioteca Central y Rectoría look awesome! Can't wait to download them.

Aaron: I am learning slowly hopefully my creations will be cleaner, faster and better looking in the future :)

Tcxalapa: I guess you can never have enough VIPS you can find them everywhere in Mexico especially in Mexico City, there is another just like 300 meters from the one I am using as reference...but I have to say the food is not too bad I actually miss it. Para cuando vemos mas BATS tuyos?

Some more progress (I know I need to fix the flag) I forgot to save the latest render of the library I guess that would have to wait until tomorrow...

I like library. I like what you've done with stairs, they look much better now. Somehow their edges look much more defined now. Maybe that single tree on the left needs some work and Maybe some reflectivity on the tower's glass would look fine as well. And I'll presume that water in the fountain isn't final :D Like!

Also I love that little restaurant. It's adorable :) Great job

Vlasky: Thanks for stopping by, for the water you mean the big poll or the smaller one?, I used autodesk default materials for the water, I like the results the only problem the ripples are only visible or evident in shaded areas e.g. the corener in my last image, I don't know if there is a "quick fix" for this or should I try a different material.

About the tower I made each tile an individual polygon and added reflections following Jason's tutorial but as you can see the results are not that impressive (don't know why) I guess I will try to add some reflections to the windows as well, but not much as the RL building windows are not very reflective...

I will try to fix the tree, I just don't want to make the scene much heavier as I am already having problems with it, I guess it is getting to big or messy for my computer as like more than half of the times I try to obtain a rendered preview 3ds max crashes...I mean it doesn't take that long only 30 minutes, this less than 60 minutes for the library.

Q: what is the best format to save my previews I am currently using the higher resolution .jpg but I feel that a lot is getting lost with this format

You might add some touches to give it more life, like benches, people and stufff.

You should finish a project before starting a new one, so it won't just sit here in limbo when you decide to take a break and forget. Oneil had 14 awesome(for 2006 measures) projects before he quit and the BATs never got released. Some of Glenni's BATs are ones he decided to finish, months and even years after he first started it.

    You know......

Jacqulina: Thanks for the kind words

Peterycrisit: Thanks very much for stopping by, have you planned on doing any more Mexican BATs?

yes thanks Zahrul you are very right but at least I think I am almost done with the library, I will show some pictures soon. About Rectoria tower adding people is something I want to do, also a couple of cars to the parking, I feel tempted to add benches but there are non in real life, maybe some rubbish bins. I don't know how to add people in 3ds max and I don't want to make the scene too heavy... I don't know maybe I can export the lot separately and add it in the LE, that way I could add the people and cars there, but don't know if that will screw up the shadows...

Not too sure about adding people unless they are really essential due to Sims being stupidly scaled..if you look around there aren't too many lots with modelled people...that said, some can work really well.

I am trying to be more efficient with my Bating so here comes a question. For the tiles I made a single polygon, then applied a sub/multi material based on JasonCW tutorial, created an array of tiles and finally applied a randomID material modifier. The problem is that this leaves me with +1000 objects just for the tiny tiles. I know I could make at least each floors tile our of a single editable poly, the problem is I don't know how to assign a random ID to each of the polygons of the poly...

Now to some pretty pictures, just a little work in all my projects some details to the roof of the restaurant. More details to the lights of the library, increased the intensity (hopefully JasonCW would be happy now, and know the lighting sources actually lid. Worked also in the rectoria tower adding railing rubbish bins and other details but mainly played with the water I don't know maybe I will try with a noise shader instead of the ocean shader to give the appearance of water ripples (any tips on this?).

My computer broke, and right now I'm using my parent's computer, and their monitor's colors aren't the same as mine, so I can't comment too much. When I get my computer back up I'll be able to help out more.

For the tiles, you can attach all of the tiles into one object, so each of the polygons will be sub-objects. Also, my tutorial doesn't say it, but there are also scripts which randomize according to polygons rather than sub-objects, and if you search google and find one of those then that will be really useful.

Another option is to use the "Tiles" map. You would have one material, and instead of putting a bitmap in the diffuse slot, you would put a tiles map in the diffuse slot. the tiles map has controls for randomizing how bright or dark the tiles are. You could also put the tiles map into other slots like the translucency glossiness slot, or transparency so that each tile is a little different, material wise instead of just color wise. The tile map's limitation is that it's not truly procedural, it has a max of 100 tiles in either direction, after that it repeats.

To help organize your scene, you can put different parts of your building in different layers. I imagine you would put the tower, main building, elevated plaza, ground, and flora onto separate layers. Then you can turn them on or off when you render depending on what you're working on to save time rendering.

I would put people in using the lot editor. It's true that they wouldn't cast shadows, but the game has a certain language for certain things, and people always look that way. If you had realistic looking people who casted shadows I think it would look unusual. I think for cars you could either do them with props or you could render them in.

You could replace ocean with noise, they do essentially the same thing except ocean has more controls to make the bumps look more like waves. With noise you'll have a more consistent wave pattern, and I don't know if that's what you want since the pool is sort of big.

PNG would be the best format for saving images at the highest quality for the web, although I think jpgs with the highest settings are just fine. There will be some quality loss when the images get converted into .FSH files anyway

Hi Jason, to bad your computer broke, hopefully nothing serious. Thanks for all that info, I did searched for a random script for polygons but the ones I founded didn't seemed to work or I don't know how to use them properly, I got 3ds max 2011. In the previous stages of the model I was using the tiles map but I didn't like the results, specifically I don't like how the mullions looked and I was not getting any visible reflections...

Following SimFox advice I separated the scene into layers but I have to confess that I got lazy at the end and what started as clean scene got quite messy, I guess I have to be more diligent about it.

    Scyscraper421: thanks for stopping by!

Tcxalapa: GRACIAS!, Yes I have thought about the stadium but not sure if I am ready to undertake such a big project, others that I got in mind are the WTC Mexico, teatro insurgentes, el Palacio de Hierro del centro de la ciudad de Mexico and la Casa de los Azulejos, I would love to see Bellas Artes but i think only someone like Debussyman could make justice to a building like that...and I am not sure if he is that interested...What about you have been very quiet lately, I am sure you got something in mind right?

Very nice buildings. Especially the round fell to my liking. Shape of the roof is a bit like the Warsaw Rotunda.

And great work with textures. Impatiently waiting for their downloads.

    Excellent job. :thumb:

    harishna,

I'm certainly impressed with (and inspired by) your work! I like how the lot is steadily improving with every update. Getting real life buildings in game is a challenge, but at least it's motivating.

abstynent Many thanks,I also hope I will finish soon but I am not as fast as you I am a slow learner

Sumwonyouno Nice to see you around, will we be seeing more from you soon?

Frex_Ceafus glad you like them it has taken me quite of time to get here (have to say I am quite slow), how are the farm house going?

Good news I think I am done with the library (well at least that is what I think) bad new is that I gave it a try at exporting last night but my computer crashed, I will try again but if I don't succeed maybe I will have to ask for help...any takers???

I won't be around for a while so in the mean time here is a preview (I wonder if the glare is too strong).

    bibliotecaN3.jpg

Ah and something extra that I made while bored, it is a pharmacy and vet-clinic it is roughly based in a RL building...

    Great job!

If you wish maybe i can help you exporting the UNAM, depends on how large the model and textures files are, I think my computer can export it... i hope

I like your small corner store, maybe my only suggestion is the roof, desaturate the texture and add some more junk on it ;)

As for mexican bats, i plan to finish my centro de convenciones located in my hometown... its huge but hope to get it released soon!

    Take care

ooh I like the glare. It will look cool the game and stand out really well at night. The red obstruction lights are nice too. So does the little Mexican building. What are those black things on the roof?
