    Hi SimFox,

I had way more lights but I couldn't render the scene so I cut the lights to the minimum...I will try reducing the cones as you suggest. Also is it possible to use an object with self illumination to illuminate other parts of the model?

Funny thing is doesn't take that long to render, this as way less lights than with the library, but more polys (but not that many 300k) most of them from the hedges (I am using subdivide and noise modifiers to give a bit of 3d look) and is a bigger scene. But I have more polys on the restaurant and humanidades tower and both render well both scenes are smaller. Would FPS be the key number to keep track? Any ideas on how to make my experience less frustrating ? besides buying a new monster computer :)

I got a laptop with a Core 2 Duo T7500 / 2.2 GHz Vista 32 bit with 4Gb/800MHz/DDR2/6400 Ram as far as I am aware I cannot use the full 4Gb because of the 32 bit OS but still see 3.5Gb and get the benefits of matched pairs. Not sure how bad my specs are...

any chance of seeing more work from you?

Since it looks like "real" lights are more resource demanding during rendering than using panels with self-illumination. Based in this principle I made an experiment using a self-illuminate modifier applied to a cylinder to illuminate some areas in the scene like below the covered footpath and sides of the building. I noticed that the quality is not the same but may not be too bad what you think?

for the actual glass, I always think self illum is more convincing..remeber, its all about illusion for the game. Are you going to add some glare? Looking good though mate

This really is beautiful. Textures are outstanding, and the trees really finish the look well. Well done

As Harishna doesn't have a powerful computer, he asked me to render the librairy.

    We decided to render:

    - darknite

    - maxisnite

    Both will be in SD.

I exported the day version correctly, pic in-game,

and have some questions about the darknite versions (I set the glare at 0.4 and 0.5, what do you prefer and what setting did you use?)

Please let me know about a modifications before exporting entirely this project.

Actually I went as low as 0.3, but 0.4 looks good (that is the third picture right?)

The in game picture looks fantastic, it seems that I made a small mistake with the dimensions as it looks as it doesn't cover exactly the whole lot, but I don't think that really matters.

    thanks again Girafe!

    0,4 or 0,3 it's up to you it's your BAT :)

Concerning the LOT I think it's the dimensions are ok but I will check it again.

The only thing is that if you want to put a transit enable with the garage there is a small gap I let you choice what to do with this.

I don't think it would look good as transit enable as I never checked the access road dimensions to match the game so I think it could look weird. The thing with lights and glare is that I can't never tell exactly I got two monitors and they look completely different in one 0.5 looks perfect in the other one looks way to bright so I guess an intermediate 0.4 will do.

I have been busy writing up my thesis but today my brain was shut so I decided to play a bit on 3dsmax and I came out with this, it is going to be a set of three buildings based on some found in old downtown of Mexico City

    HostelAmigo.jpg

I also have a few BATs ready to release so I soon as I got some time I will export them and if my computer doesn't crash release them, I will just like to have custom queries and do some modding, I got no experience on either so any help is more than welcome.

question I know I have seen this before but how can I use the SC4 default textures in 3ds max?

I definitely haven't work enough on my thesis in the last few days, so here is a bit more of progress, I still don't know how I am going to model the back of these buildings as I have no reference from real life..

There are a few textures that came with BAT and you can find them in one of the BAT folders.

For lot editor textures, SimFox uploaded a big pack of them on the STEX.

The building on the left looks good but the windows of the building in the middle look clunky.

Hi Jason I am actually looking for the concrete textures found in LE

is it the whole window thing that looks clunky or is it something more specific that you fin unappealing?

All three buildings are based in real life ones except that I adjusted the width to make them fit nicely in a 2x2 lot

    Thanks for stopping by Aaron!

I can't be 100% sure, but at probability of, say 95% I can venture a guess that Jason's architectural sensibilities were upset by the apparent disorder between ground floor and floors above. Columns aren't just an decorative detail, it (at least it's pedigree) is a structural element, load baring element at that. So the openings (windows) right above the columns does really look odd indeed.

Additionally the alignment of the said opening to the axi of columns through things out of balance. Facade looks "split up" by the "void" between those windows.

Looking so good right now, I love the high detail in your buildings. I have many small town buildings that I will use, but this may be the best, I love it.

Please do not quote pictures and/or long posts unless it's necessary (e.g., because you are referring to a particular detail visible in the picture you quote). This makes it easier to read the thread and eliminates a lot of scrolling. Thank you. ~ T Wrecks, moderator

Well okay, but you could just press on the scroll and move the mouse to the bottom of page and it will pass by quick. Or just press the side bar. Okay?? Zulu2065

Personally I would square the window overhang/awning things off a bit, I think they look a little too small to be rounded and it makes them look a little cartoony..just my preference but I think it would look better in game. other than that they look awesome.

on another note, the library looks absolutely wonderful in game, you should be very proud!

Thanks very much Yoshiisland, well the library is know in the capable hands of Girafe he helped me with the flora and now with rendering (my computer couldn't handle the scene) so it would be uploaded soon I hope :). I have also not being able to export the other university buildings (again too much for my computer), I was expecting to get a new computer soon but it looks that is not going to happen until the end of the year...so I guess I am going to have to ask for help to render those two buildings too.

    Really good job Juan :)

ps: I come back son with a picture of the UNAM with a lower glare considering your last comment on this tiny pb :)

Reduced glare to 0.3 (vs 0.4)

Gaaah... there goes another keyboard. This is seriously one of the best BATs of 2011 for me, both because of the unique structure it recreates and in terms of its quality as a BAT. Let's say that, uhm, I could live with that night scene, and that's probably one of the biggest understatements of 2011 so far. ;)

I have a computer with an Intel i7 Processor, 8GB of DDR3 RAM, and a video card with 1 GB of GDDR5 video memory. I'm not bragging, lol, but what I am saying is that I could retrieve the latest Autodesk 3DS Max legally with my .edu email, download BAT4MAX and assist with your renders. I'm not sure what that would entail, but I can certainly figure things out and offer that to you, if you would like.

    Keep calm and take photographs.

The back side of the colonial buildings IMO looks incomplete, im not quite sure if you have enough pictures of the back side, or its like that in real life...

Maybe you could put some more small details, as like leaking details by weather, or either some small balconies...

As for everything else looks great!

    Saludos!
