Grand Central Terminal w/ Elevated Road

2864546448_8db556e1e0.jpg

Additional Images: 1 | 2 | 3 | I also have a book with loads of additional images of the Park Ave. elevation that I can easily scan, so if somebody wants more images, feel free to PM me.

Description:

Although nobody questions Maxis's decision to put the beautiful, monumental Grand Central in the game - and perhaps this is the landmark they did the best on in terms of detail and feel - they forgot a key component: how the elevated Park Avenue goes into Grand Central's "second level" and careems around it, before going into the Helmsley Building and, eventually, returning to the ground. Ideally, in SimCity terms, someone would construct a simple addition to the building in the front and back that connected to the elevated road already around the building that allows it to be connected to the NAM elevated roads. It probably wouldn't make much sense to include the MetLife building in back of Grand Central in this mod to give users the most flexibility, but if someone wants to do it in addition, hey, go ahead! I don't know how easy it is to make the road around the building itself to be transit-enabled, but even if that's impossible, the eye-candy would still make it a great addition. Grand Central itself also need not be transit enabled in terms of railroads, but again, if someone wants to do it, I'm not stopping them.

Aerial view in Google Maps

Why this would be benificial for the game or community:

SimCity, with the help of the NAM team and the Simtropolis community at large, has created the unique ability to truly integrate transportation into a city-builder. On the other end of the spectrum, we have beautiful buildings being created every day - so why not combine the two? This would give users more control over road use in their city, especially elevated roads, while at the same time having a great landmark in their city! Grand Central is one of New York's most beautiful landmarks, and this added realism would make any city complete. I'd be happy to do some research or help in any way with the project if anyone so desires, since I'd love to see this happen. Thanks a lot!

Description

This is a level 1 Trauma center located in the center of longisland NY.  One of the largest hospitals on longisland.  Stony brook hospital Has a really neat modern look and would be a great addition to sim city 4.  the second picture shows the new Emergency Department addition they recently added.  The hospital employs about 5100 staff and has 540 beds (in simcity would likely hold several thousand idealy)  the hospital has a hele pad just above the ER (er is on the 4th floor)anes.anesthes.sunysb.edu/Residency/images/UH_helicopter.jpg

http://www.sprintcenter.com/

http://www.mapmart.com/Images/Samples/KC_Sample_Image.jpg

Description:

The Sprint center holds over 18,000 fans.  It opened in October 2007 and was a $276 million project by the City of Kansas City.  Like the Apple Store, the Sprint Center is also mostly glass and transparent in appearance.

Why this would be beneficial for the game or community:

The building itself is very unique and modern, and it would easily replace the game's convention center with its attractiveness.  The community would benifit as well with this civic center.  Sims will love visiting the Sprint Center with its impressive schedule of only the most popular shows, concerts, and sporting events.

I have also included the links to the pictures of the Sprint Center in case the pictures don't show up in this post.  You will notice the arena also has a partial underground loading/unloading area for semi trucks.

One State Street Plaza:

485401.jpg

Description:

An office High rise situated adjacent to Battery Park. the tower rises to a height of 459ft.(139.9m)  with 33 floors

Why this would be beneficial to the game or community:

I made this request to the NYC BAT Team, particularly for Kryptowhite because of his last BAT 17 State Street. This would be a fun BAT to do, mostly due to its rather simple design. Also another worthy addition for recreators of NYC.

One Battery Park Plaza

704002.jpg

Description:

Another office high rise adjacent to both Battery Park and 17 State Street. This tower rises to a height of 495ft.(150.9m) with 36 floors.

Why this would be beneficial to the game or community:

Iv'e decided to make requests for both of these buildings because they seem to be relatively easy and quick to produce. The requests, as I have mentioned, are particularly for Kryptowhite of the NYC BAT Team. Again, these would make a more than worthy addition to any large city for filler, or for recreating NYC.

BMW Museum

BMW Museum in Munich, Germany (commons.wikimedia.org)

http://www.bmw-museum.com/2/webmill.php -links at the bottom to "architecture/design" would probably be useful

Description:

This is the BMW Museum in Munich, Bavaria, Germany. It is what it says it is: a museum dedicated to Bavarian Motor Werks. To me, this is a stunning work of architecture in Germany and I would love to see the Blue and White of the BMW symbol/Bavarian Flag on top of that circular building in SC4.

Why this would be beneficial for the game or community:

This would be beneficial for many types of buildings:

Civic: it could be the BMW Museum in the game too, adding culture, and educating sims.

Landmark: add the unique shape of the complex to the growing list of quality BATs

Co$$: Adds jobs to the market.

Ok. With some of my free time I like to write and draw. Like any other kid...

But I got a hold of some engineers comuputation paper and adopted it to use as blue prints. I would like to show you some of my draw-ups that I have made; please feel free to comment.

One of the reasons I'm showcasing these pics is to open up my designs for BAT-ing. If anyone would like to make a BAT of ANYTHING that i post, whether from my Flickr account or what i post on ST, please PM me.

Description:

This first building is the River Tower, rising approx. 1,700 meters off the ground. This fictitious building houses commercial offices as well as shopping centers. There are penthouses available for the rich, as well as a center for government use.

Height: 1,760m (unreal)

               880m (realistic)

Why it would be beneficial:

The River tower is a unique, yet plausable design, and would easily fit in

with other BAT skyscrapers.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/41875191@N03/3868095154/in/set-72157622176719618/

Desriptoin:

The next building is Tower X. This is a modestly-sized corporate tower. Rising to just 255 meters off above the lower plaza at the top of the antenna, Tower X houses corporate offices and a retail center.

Height (antenna): 255m

Spire: 230m

Floor: 190m

Why beneficial:

Tower X could fit in with not only large citys, but also medium sized towns, due to its size and shape.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/41875191@N03/3868094978/in/set-72157622176719618/

Description:

The third building is The Crescent Building. This building is probably my most unique design yet. If real, it would be located somewhere in the Middle East or Northern Africa. Shaped like a crescent, this building also houses government officials and commerical offices.

Height: 65m

Why Beneficial:

There are few Islamic-inspired buildings present on the STEX. Adding the Crescent Building

would not only open up a larger array of building types, but also is a very unique structure

and would be a challange for any BAT-er.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/41875191@N03/3867312795/in/set-72157622176719618/

Desrciption:

The final building is The BCL Center. It is a mixed use commercial/civic building. This building is the urban headquarters of BCL International, a logistics company. Though, on the top 5 visible floors, there is a government commerce office, for organizing and planning commercial development. The last 2 floors, which have no windows, are combined to form the BCL Expo Center, used for various seminars and expostions.

Height: 175m

Why Beneficial:

Once again, this is an Office building that can be made with many different textures and/or

colors. It would be a fun and worthwhile project to do.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/41875191@N03/3867312563/in/set-72157622176719618/

So there they are. some of my work. All of the buildings are fictional, and any relation to real buildings is purely coincidence.

**IF YOU WANT TO BAT THESE:** Please PM me for details on colors. I would like to be in the creation process mostly for the Crescent building and River Tower, but also Tower X and the BCL Center too.

I'm sorry if your request was deleted. Everyone can repost their request, following the formatting explained at the beginning of the thread.

Special thanks goes to everyone who followed the instructions in the first place.

Dallas Bank of America and Rennisance Tower.

Description: The bank of america tower and the Rennisance tower are the tallest buildings in dallas.

Why it would be benifitial: these 2 towers are very good looking and are not to tall. they would make good midrises.

    Alte Synagoge Essen/Germany

    fifth-ave-apple-store-1.jpg7833184.jpg

Note that the reddish color of the building is caused by the light of dusk. Actually the building is light grey.

For further pics you might want to google-image-search "Alte Synagoge Essen".

    Description:

This is the Old Synagogue of Essen (Germany). It is situated in the center of the city and its the largest synagogue north of the alps.  It was inaugurated in 1913 and provided space for about 1500 people. In 1938 the building's inside was severly damaged by arsons set during the Reichspogromnacht while the outside remained mainly unharmed. Afterwards the Nazis were unable to demolish it because of its ferroconcrete structure and the closeness of surrounding buildings. During WWII the synagogue even survided the massive bombraids on Essen, which was an important center of the German steel and armaments industry. In 1956 the city bought the building from the remaining jewish community, which planed on building a new (smaller) synagogue. Since 1980 the "Alte Synagoge" serves as a municipal memorial site where meetings, concerts, exhibitions and memorial ceremonies take place regularly.

    Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Old_Synagogue_%28Essen%29

Official homepage of the "Alte Synagoge" (German): http://www.alte-synagoge.essen.de/

Why this would be beneficial for the game or community:

I think this building would be a useful contribution to the community because there are only 3 synagogues available on the STEX plus the small one included in a church-pack by simgoober, but none of these is sufficiently large. Maybe it could fit on a 3x5 or 4x6 lot and serve as museum and/or have a landmark-effect. In my eyes it could be a beneficial addition to the game and provide the gamers a bigger variety of religious buildings. And, considering the troubleful history of the building, I think it deserves a pixel-counterpart in our favorite game.

    @ Liberater444:

One has to point out more clearly that the BMW museum is just the bowl-shaped building in the foreground. The tower in the background is the BMW-headquarter designed as a four-cylinder motor. But nonetheless both of the buildings would be great in SC4!

So I definitely support this request.

    Here are a few buildings...

    Kunigan Persada Tower

    MegaKuninganTowerParkOffice_dpasaribu3.j

This tower is in the book Skyscapers, however, I don't think it was ever built. It would be 1,525 ft. tall in Jakarta, Indonesia's CBD. It is this color (sorry 'bout the distorted image) which is light blue.

I think it would be beneficial to the community because we need more extra large buildings to use as CBD centerpieces.

    Lake Point Tower

    LPTmodel.jpg

This tower is a very large condominium complex in Chigago, located on a spit of land in Lake Michigan. It is entirely sheathed in a reddish-brown tinted glass. When it was built, it was the largest apartment tower in the world.

It would be beneficial to the ST community because I think the SC4 apartment towers are too small and there aren't enough apartment towers on the STEX. Also, none of them are all glass...

    Temple of mankind

Model for male statue: http://biografie.leonardo.it/img/bio/i/Il_Futurismo.jpg and the statues should feature very strong colour: absolutetely white, absolutely black, absolutely yellow, absolutely red.

Model for female statues: Atena - Peireas

    Description:

I would like a "temple" of the values I think are the most important for mankind. It's a fictional building, so I can't provide any image. All what to do is told in the pic.

The fountain should be circular and very big, with a huge marble and gold female statue representing peace in the middle... sadly, I can't find anything similiar in the net

The last thing I think I should add, it's that the whole building should be 8X8 tiles or 10X10, but any size that isn't 100X100 or 1X1 will be actually appreciated.

Why this would be beneficial for the game or community:

This temple would provide more variety and give some good building for region based on regular and future-styled cities.

Last, but absolutely not least: My gratitude to all the people who will try to make this!

Oslo Opera House as a new Cruise Ship Terminal

    Description:

Oslo Opera House, Oslo, Norway. Opened april 2008.

Won the Culture Award at the World Arrchitecture Festival at Barcelona in october 2008.

Won the Miles van der Rohe Award 2009 - the European Union prize for contemporary architecture.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oslo_Opera_House

If you do search on Google Image for "Oslo Opera" you will come up with several pics in various angels.

Why this would be beneficial for the game or community:

The in-game Opera House is ok (at least for my game), but the Cruise Ship Terminal is not.

I have looked at the STEX. None of the proposed terminals are god enough (sorry guys).

As you will see from the picture this is located near and into the water. It will fit as a terminal.

Its futuristic design will go well with a modern skyline of our cities.

The texture should be not as bright as it is, I guess. Some artistic freedom would be required.

I would be very grateful if someone took this challenge.

    Best regards

    The Baptist (Mayor)

    Entrance-2.jpg

    Medical-Sign.jpg

    Description:

Michigan Central Station is one of Detroit's iconic landmarks.  The 1913 Beaux-Arts railway station was once a gateway to the Motor City.  Unfortunately, it has become a symbol of the city's urban decay, with the building being virtually gutted by vandals and its future uncertain.

    blogs.myspace.com/index.cfm

    www.simtropolis.com/forum/messageview.cfm

Why this would be beneficial for the game or community:

This would be an ideal project for the Barry Sanders Project team, which has produced a number of excellent Detroit-area landmarks for the STEX.  The Michigan Central Station would make a bold addition to many cities.  Whoever designs this will hopefully capture the boldness and elegence of the station's heyday.  The station should be a functional train station or serve as a transit center with several forms of transportation meeting there.  This building would also be an ideal commercial office building.

There is already a Michigan Central Station on the STEX, but the model is a poor rendering and the file is locked, anyway.

    Sincerely, Steve M Sim

Could someone create a revised solar power plant with any or all these attributes?

Larger size:  A realistic solar plant generating that power would have to be much larger than the one in the game.

Less expensive to operate:  The plant should be more like $50 a month... that's the reason it's so expensive to build.

If the size doesn't change, could the plop cost be reduced to ~$5000 and produce a fraction the normal power at a more reasonable rate per GW.  It would seem to make more sense that a power plant of about that size be cheaper than a coal plant, but should also generate WAY less power.

I just simply am interested in using solar power, but want to have a power plant that's more realistic both to operate and in regards to its size.  I would be very flexible on what moderators would be willing to choose for the attributes.

    Thanks.
